I like playing games with some type of competitive factor, but I hate being shit at them. In order to remedy this, someone would have to practice consistently to get better. However, the practicing part based on my numerous lengthy experiences was filled more with frustration than fun which is pretty much normal for someone who's practicing anything. However in my case, if i'm going to be spending more time being pissed at a game(read: myself) than actually enjoying it, why am I playing?

My question is, how do I accept that i'm casual scum and shouldn't take games too seriously, when even playing casually isn't stimulating to me?

You stop making excuses.

It's that easy. No really. Don't ever say "But it only happened because…". "I was missing X".

It happened. You play a game. You win or you lose. You don't change what happened. What you can do is try something new next time. And in doing so, remember that "something new" equals failing 99 times out of 100. You should never be frustrated you hit one of those 99. You should instead think "one less, 98 to go before I hit the right one".

Being good at videogames only means you need less "mistakes" before hitting the right one. Intuition, deduction, wathever it is.

But another advice I have: it seems you're playing for the wrong reasons. It may soud weird, but you shouldn't play competitively "to win" if you want to enjoy yourself.

Playing "to win" is not fun. It never is. High peak performance is achieved with work, not with fun. Not to mention the myriad of shit you have to pull off (depends on each game) that is efficient but repetitive/boring/not interesting.

I alsoplay competitive games. But I do it because I enjoy the competition itself. Pitting yourself against another player is thrilling and very different from playing against an A.I. Human players pull off diferent tactics, innovate and learn.

Barring some boring match (or someone using cheese), winning or losing has no bearing on how much fun I derive from a game. It's butting heads that I greatly enjoy.

What you can do is play many of the modern games with matchmaking and stop buying into the "forced 50"meme.

You'll be matched with players around your skill which means you'll win half of your games. If your win rate is closer to 45%, you're on a downward slope and the game will match you with lower ranked players. Accept it without bitterness and keep playing/improving.

Also: remember that there's always people who play better than you. Don't expect to be the best every time and learn to respect worthwhile oponents: they just gave you a good challenge and a good match afterall.

But don't forget to shittalk cheesers and scrubs.

This tbh

It's good to compete, so you get better

But play to first and foremost have fun

Playing to win should be secondary (or you'll see you get annoyed more easily if this is your first priority)

For example, when I play Smash, I love using counters all the time, it's just a fun thing to do for me

But if I made playing to win my priority, I wouldn't be using it because it'd be an "inefficient" way to win

It's no fun playing in a mechanical way like that, just feels like the life got sucked out of the game (kinda why I don't like watching competitive play)

So I'd just say winning is sure important, but not as important as having fun, and you should choose how you play based on that fact

If you don't enjoy a game enough to want to learn its systems and get better at it then the game isn't for you. You can cure your casual taste but it takes effort, and it sounds like you don't want to make that effort.

Don't play modern RNGfest garbage games, play Quake III Arena instead.(quake live doesn't count)

What games are you trying to improve at? It's easier to give advice if you mention that.

At its core, winning against human opponents requires good thinking and not sheer reflex. The rate you improve at also relies on how well you focus and learn during practice. You can't just play 5 hours a day, wake up the next morning and forget all the games you had the day before. Reflexes come last.

If you want to get good at a competitive game in the shortest time possible, you need to watch more than you play. I'm going to assume you're talking about an actually competitive game with a ranked mode and community around it. You watch as many high-level coaching videos as possible, you read forums where high level players talk and congregate. You focus on understanding their decisionmaking and how they think. You do this for about 2-4 hours every day and you maybe play the actual game 1-2 hours a day. Do this and you'll make extreme improvements very fast.

Simple you don't play videogames.

Also avoid any activity in your life that requires any effort or sacrifice to achieve improvement and accept your existence as a mediocre faggot who's good for nothing not even fucking videogames that way the depression will easy the transition until the inevitable moment you end yourself

Plebbit spacing.

Thinks games should require sacrifice.

I imagine that a 1v1 game where you play against random players will have a very steep learning curve. If and when you lose, try to appreciate the skill your opponents have.

You could try playing a game that allows you to set your own "goals", so to speak, and work your way around your weaknesses, until you can iron out said weaknesses. Also, if it's a team based game, your team can carry you. They won't even be mad, they'll be too busy owning the other team.

Well you're actually vegeta

>I like playing games with some type of competitive factor

There are many that play that any game as their main source of entrainment, you wont win unless you have the same amount of autism

There are some people that will always be better than you at something, is part of life

IF you really like that game, just enjoy the fights and learn from those who beat you

If you only like winning, do something else

>Play devil's advocate with a mean comment telling OP to kill himself because of his casualness

>Offer solid advice in video form and while it focuses on fighting games the general concept applies to all skill based videogames

If I just wanted to berate OP I would've just written kill yourself but is not like sarcasm exists.

Also

>Thinks games should require sacrifice

If you work with vidya either by making them, selling them, making content about them, playing competitively, making speedruns, creating mods, guides, reviews or even professional shitposting (journalism) there would be some level of sacrifice (time investment) you'd have to do.

But you wouldn't know about that.

I have a similar issue, OP. I enjoy playing fighting games because I like competition, but I hate not being good at them. If anything, I like winning because it makes me feel like I've validated myself, like the time spent training and labbing shit has paid off. At the same time, I find it's best to play with friends instead of random people, and practice together and have fun. That way both of you can improve and take note of what each player is doing wrong overtime.

Nor has superman quit cocaine. They're paragons of good, doing good at every turn.

You don't fix your ways if there's nothing to fix, or change your path if it's the best path.

Vegeta's way about things was wrong, and his consciously and unconsciously realizing what he never wanted to realize (that Goku embodies a true saiyan fighter) made him stronger.

also, anyone know if [DBZ - Vegeta's Respect for Goku (HD)(Not AMV)] was reuploaded anywhere?

b11ba9 No.14892851

There is zero point playing competitive games unless you're making money off them. By the time a game becomes popular, it's already too late to git gud as by the time you do its popularity will be over. You think Fortnite is still going to be as popular as it is now, this time next year? If you start practicing every day you'll become the best player of a game nobody is playing anymore. Really, all you can do is play a lot of games competitively, making it your JOB and your LIFE and THE THING THAT DEFINES YOU AS A HUMAN BEING, and then hope one of those games blows up so you can become a rich youtube/twitch streamer, before you end up homeless.

It's dumb luck. That's why I don't bother with these types of games. It's a pointless rat race where the winning rat is the one who doesn't get a brick dropped on him.
