Only MMO I've enjoyed this past couple of years is FFXIV but even then I'm burnt out and in the end of the day it's just a japanese WoW clone. But at least the lizard girls are cute. Is Project Gorgon any good? Was meaning to try it sometime but I don't have anyone to play it with, and playing MMOs by yourself, you might as well just play a SP RPG instead.

If you want endless grindan, warframe is your game. it's a really basic third person shooter action rpg style game, in which you shoot trash mobs, collect gear and materials, and build items. Each warframe has its own strengths and weaknesses; you collect mods to build for your desired attributes.

It has a story and a variety of missions to participate in, so at the very least you can constantly do something different so shit doesn't get stale.

project gorgon is a neat idea that i couldn't really get into, but in fairness it's because i also mainly play FFXIV when i get the skinnerbox loot treadmill bug and as a result i didn't really give it a chance to get under my skin. that said i had a blast when gorgon was in alpha and we all played it together; grinding compassion XP, getting run through the crypts so i could learn necromancy and accidentally turning into a spider and being attacked by guards are some of my fondest MMO memories

Apart from Runescape pre-Grand Exchange, only MMO I've really gotten into is Star Trek Online. And that's pretty shit once you've reached the level cap, because from there you either have to do a shitton of grinding for dilithium or spend real money to get decent ships and gear.

I'd like to add that I made a killing in energy credits - I got massive amounts of Ketracel White on the cheap by getting Dathan to replicate it, then sold it for hugely inflated prices at the exchange. It was great. Most fun I ever had in an MMO. Energy credits don't buy much though, so I just got some mirror universe ships, clothes and tribbles.

The problem with MMOs is they required actual programmers to build and actual programmers switched to writing engines rather than write games around time MMOs really picked up in the market. Maybe some day Unity or Amazon will release MMO creation tools so they can sell servers as a service, but until then there's little hope of SF hipster faggots making anything.

$14 a month subscription but there is f2p. The downside of f2p is your skills are limited to 60 (out of 100) but f2p is still doable, there's lots of subbed players who have a f2p account for fucking around.

The two main downsides are

PSO2 has shitton of classes, each with 2-3 weapons that all play differently.

Also not all classes are listed when you create character, you can switch to fighter/techer/something else in lobby.

Try different classes and weapons, because chances are you tried to start with something boring like hunter or ranger.

Good shit man, get a feel for the game in Tindrem but don't spend all your time there. A lot of new players never venture outside of Tindrem and though there's a lot of stuff to do in the city ot isn't the whole game. Two quick tips, first think of what type of character you want to make beforehand, though there isn't classes certain races and ages are more fit for certain roles in a min-maxing sense. Secondly, there's thieves everywhere in Tindrem. Bank your fucking money and watch your back when you take it out. Thieving is a skill and you can make good money robbing people

Mortal other than the magic is more based on real combat, so two swords isn't that viable. You could do greatswords (2 handed) though or sword and shield. If you want you can do spear and shield as well, in fact as a f2p since your skills are limited to 60 I think you can actually pick up multiple weapon skills

Oh to answer your other questions you generally need a dedicated character to do crafting so if you just want to be a foot fighter that's fine. Also there's no cooldown on deleting and remaking characters. As soon as you delete you can remake. I recomend a Thursar/Khurite/Sidoian age 26 max height build to begin with as a footfighter

Guild Wars is top-tier but its just shy of being dead. It's a great single-player game still at this point, but the community is mostly gone.

BDO is almost good, but it gets ruined by the time you get to about Level 45 or so and suddenly everything becomes "kill 1000 skeletons" and other grindfesty bullshit. Not to mention RNG loot enhancement and all of the other issues inherent to the game.

Because publishers are money hungry jews that refuse to host servers outside a few key locations. Meaning if they want their playerbase to actually justify designing a 'massively multiplayer' game, the dev's have to design mechanics based around the inherent limitations that come with high latency.

Warframe has good action combat but I'd put it on the same level as vindictus, an online multiplayer game. Simply due to the fact that the amount of concurrent users playing together isn't large. Then again I haven't played it for a long time so that may have changed. Put it this way, if warframe doesn't currently beat what things like MAG or BF2 could provide well over a decade ago in terms of concurrent users in a single environment all playing together then you're not even scratching the surface of breaking into MMO territory.

Has there ever been a good RuneScape-esque MMO?

I really like having tons of non-combat skills that I can grind while relaxing, and being able to use certain skills to increase other skills (i.e. woodcutting can be used for firemaking or fletching), and can make a decent amount of money off those skills.

It seems like all the recent MMOs are mostly combat focused and any non-combat or crafting skills are very shallow or limited in nature.

The closest I've seen is maybe something like Wakfu, but there aren't enough skills and grinding them isn't as satisfying for me as grinding skills in RS.

Rubberbanding in MMO terms is when your character does some sort of action(usually moving) but the server is choking on ALL the dicks and doesn't register it, so when the client gets the data from the server with your character's info, that data says that you haven't moved or whatever. This causes the character, who has been moving just fine on the client side, to snap back to its initial position like it was tethered to that spot with a giant rubber band.
