>you can't stall the entire enemy team with 1 sentry gun
The whole game revolves around stalling the oposing team one way or another to the point that Ubers are strictly designed to break stalemates like that.
All this shit does is make sentries a less viable option for this so you might as well pick Medic instead and go down the 6s meta.

You can add to that how stickies work, since they were nerfed before and then rebuffed again because Demos kept crying about "not being able to destroy sentries anymore".
Nevermind that it was bullshit, they just wanted to lay stickies on their oponent's feets and explode them as contact grenades instead because aiming is hard.
Nevermind that the Soldier's rockets have an innate mechanic that makes them deal 90 damage to sentries regardless of all variables and this could have been used for stickies as well so it doesn't fuckup balance regarding spamming it at someone's feets.
The huge problem with the game was always the pandering to Soldiers and Demos that were meant to be jack-of-all-trades generalists but instead they are so good at each field that they end up outperforming everyone else.
Every other class is merely a side-grade exactly like weapons, with the Soldier\Demo being the stock choice.
You want more speed and another jump? Pick Scout, but you'll lose some HP and your "rockets" don't do damage past mid-range.
You want more HP? Pick Heavy, but you lose speed and your main weapon is much slower now.
Or don't do any of that shit because the classes are so versatile that you can adapt to most situations much faster so why bother?
The only change that was needed (and I'd love to see a private server testing this just to confirm it) was every explosion from rockets, grenades and stickies having it's range tripled but it's damage halved. That's fucking it.
You want single target high damage? You bring a Heavy, Sniper, Scout or Spy.
You want AoE low damage? You bring Soldier or Demo.
A scout does a meatshot and it racks up 100 damage, while a point blank rocket only gets to 50. However, toss a rocket in the middle of 3 guys and you easily reach 120 total damage (since it's not point blank).
There, an easily definable and still usefull role for the class that it already had to begin with: punish clumps of characters\buildings and hit behind corners.
It's generalist as fuck since it helps in many situations, it's noob friendly as all generalist classes should be since you're gonna be usefull anyway, it keeps all advanced movement techniques but it doesn't overlap the aplications of Scouts, Snipers, Heavies, Spys, etc.
