Remember the magic of malls? Of going into KB Toys and getting Pokemon Gold, Wario Land, and checking out the Digimon and Beast Wars toys?

Yeah…

Do I get nostalgic about my parents buying me shit when I was a little kid?

Malls are and were always shit. You're just nostalgic for being a kid.

I never actually went to a mall until I moved out. There's been one around me as I was growing up but we mostly just went to smaller stores or other department stores. Not sure why. So my only experiences with malls are seeing them mobbed with niggers and spics and not really being eager to return to them at any point.

I remember KB toys going out of business and getting a $4 copy of um jammer lammy, however. Great game.

Mall arcades were the only reason I bothered going to the mall, but those stopped existing too. Standalone arcades are just part of rotting landscapes now. Even Nickelodeon Studios, the mecca of kid-stuff and videogames, is now a shopping plaza.

Those days are gone and they're never coming back.

dfae29 No.14359334

Yeah before huge online catalogues, going to those places when i was young and my world was small enough that giant malls where the ultimate place to see all kinds of products. Still some decent malls are good because there is stuff i'll never just buy online and also i like to help the local economy thrive.

You know how anons occasionally get a hair up their ass to buy an island? How about turning an abandoned mall into a sort of enclave? Aside from that, I think it would be good for some /k/ tier fun, maybe at least some paintball.

6fd75a No.14359350

Not really, i remember toysrus more simply because it was the first and only time i ever saw a SEGA Saturn in real life during it's prime, and even then it was running fucking Sonic R.

cd1c1f No.14359351

Malls die because those places are just rumble pits for black people to gather in and fight.

I don't have any emotional attachment to malls, anyway, and I don't associate them with childhood. I don't remember anything about my childhood because I deliberately try to forget it in order to stop myself from involuntarily flashing back to unpleasant moments (it doesn't have to be a moment that should logically elicit sympathy, it could be a grudge over something petty or a moment where I got what I deserved for being a little shit but still feel I should smite the one who "wronged" me that I've nursed in my subconscious) but that only served to make me forget anything good that might have happened then (if it ever did).

But, anyway, malls could make a comeback if they start charging entry fees and issuing membership passes (after all, Niggers are cheapskates) but that won't do much good unless the malls have good marketing as well. Otherwise, malls can be turned into condominiums and people can renovate old stores into luxury apartments.

af9c55 No.14359354

>>14359292

That's what happened to the mall i used to hang out in as a kid, became infested with niggers until it became known as the ghetto mall and people stopped going even though it was within walking distance of a major university. Willing to bet that's what happened to most of the malls in the US, they're all infested with shitskins now so people just stay home.

As for specifically buying vidya that shit was ruined when GameStop developed a monopoly. Weirdest part is they seem to be half games half "nerd culture" stuff now, guess people don't buy as many games as they used to.

I can't even think of a good reason to go to a mall anyways anymore, all the stores i liked have been dead for years now. The people who rent space in the malls to sell teenagers stupid shit, you retard. You draw them in with the allure of a public social setting, and then you have a bunch of shops and food chains and shit to capitalize on them being there. No chain store is going to set up at a mall with reduced customer volume and take the risk when malls are already failing financially.

Additionally, those warehouses you posted mostly sell their own shit at wholesale, but most stores in a mall depend on marking up their prices to pay rent.

As for malls, I only ever found one teenage girl to ogle at one, and she ogled me too, and that was gratifying even though nothing further was pursued. As for the intended purpose of malls, they were fun and had a good selection of products, but they weren't something I couldn't live without. The only feels I'm getting from this are feels associated with better times in general, which malls are only one small part of.

I just started getting into Digimon and feel a little bad that I missed its heyday, even if the dub of the anime is shit. Fuck you, OP. I came into this thread expecting porn or some sort of other shit because it was only vaguely vidya and now I'm walking away feeling old and sad.

I'm 33 and I had a lot of fond memories of malls as a kid. Up until the early 2000s, a lot of them were fun. Trips for new games at EB, clothes for school, minigolf, arcades, the food court.. all sorts of stuff. I was even the first kid in my mall to get a Dreamcast back in 99.

These days.. most are dead and the ones that are left are polluted with unruly minority kids, yuppie cunt stores, and those pitiful kiosks where some guy with more grease in his hair than I'd see when frying bacon is trying to sell me a fidget spinner. I'm not even 40 and I feel like I've been alive for a century.

And I've watched vidya go to shit in the twenty seven years I've been playing.

Nostalgia is a mean bitch.

Yeah, Malls are dead or dying. It's been said in this thread as well as in threads pertaining to malls before this one, but the main reason is the influx of shitskins coupled with how easy and convenient buying shit online has become.

I'm not sure exactly when malls started falling, but it had to have been recently. I went to woodfield mall a few months ago after not having been there for a long time and I couldn't stomach the state it was in. Yeah, it was quite busy when I went, but there were so many shitskins and fatties that I ended up leaving the mall without buying anything. Not like most of the shit there isnt fabricated in some third world country for mere pennies and them price marked up by over 400%.

Don't even mention the gypsy-like stalls that have ugly and annoying shitskins manning them constantly. You'd be lucky if one of them doesn't walk up to you and ask them to buy something. It's gotten so pathetic. A few years ago in some other mall in Texas this one stall selling pictures got so desperate they took a candid shot of me walking at some point and then they tried to sell me the picture. Unbelievable.

Anyway, as previously mentioned, I have no reason to go to malls anymore-much less any store- unless im eating at a restaurant or hanging out with colleagues. Like I said, you'd be hard pressed to find one piece of merchandise sold that is made in America or some other respectable country. I will admit though that there is this one store that sells lego sets for WW1 and WW2 planes/tanks/ships/etc which is real fuckin neato, but that may be the only saving grace of the particular mall i had in mind.

>Malls are dead

Not in my country it's not, granted its no longer a place to shop but rather as place to hang out, eat, and play arcades. I went to a lot of malls recently and i swear, it has twice as more restaurants / food kiosks / what have you compared to the storefronts. The high-end clothing stores that actually open in my malls are actually just a facade to put up an upper-class aura since 99% of the people that goes to the mall won't go there to buy expensive shit. That's why the mall management gave said stores a huge cut to their rent fee. I mean shit, i could probably say that my malls are better than the burger's malls.

There's also 'niche malls' in here that sell some specific type of shit (e.g. Computer parts, Airshit, hobby kits, etc) ran by different kind of owners, the neat thing here is that you could haggle with the merchants running said operations so you could LARP as a smooth-talking jew and get the best prices they've got to offer, or you know, just buy it online.

I guess that's why the malls in my country are relatively thriving, they changed their business practice as a place to meet-up rather than to buy stuff

Because they're from a time in American history at the absolute peak of our decadence and consumerist culture. It was during the retail boom, and consumer spending was at an alltime-high. Driven by newfound confidence in the capitalist system brought upon by the dissolution of the Soviet Union. It was during a time when children still actually went outside still. There's still a few mall arcades here in California. It's still not worth living here.

>>14359404

Mine didn't close until 2012. Everyone was surprised it lasted so long, but I'd ride by it on my way home from school for years and always saw people in there up until they closed. Even I'd sometimes pick up gift cards there because it was a convenient location.

>>14363997

I tried to rent from the library back when I was maybe 10-13 but my local one said only my parents could rent movies. No idea what the age restriction was. (My college has movie rentals surprisingly. They've even had Pokemon movies since before Pokemon X/Go came out, so it pre-dates the recent craze.)

That's what I do whenever my friends or family feel like dragging me to a mall. I'm really glad I look young and don't have to be subtle about staring at teens. Occasionally they'll notice me checking them out and make conversation. I just pretend I'm still a senior at the high school I graduated from. I remember enough of my teachers to make it believable. I just realized I've been out of high school for almost 9 years now. I turned 27 today.

"Study hard for you to have a good job and earn money"

This is jewery that "they" brainwashed you to think as correct, this is not truth, see the world with your own eyes, not the world they made you think is the real one…

I prefer the magic of market streets to the magic of a mall by far. There's one right around the corner where I live. Also, most anons here are men, and as such, do not have interest in shopping or window shopping.

Unless that mall shit had an arcade, a bowling alley, or a pool table, I was not interested.

I remember going to the mall to walk and the magic of finding a bookstore that wasn't just Barnes and Noble and one of the first acts of independence was asking your parents to stay at this play while they shop around for clothes while you can read to your heart's content. And I remember when malls weren't just fucking clothes only. They had more variety. Now imagine yourself as an adult who witness their favorite bookstore or childhood store filled with toys and electronics replaced by another fucking women's clothings store.

in the 1980s, there were a bunch of crappy businesses that built "family entertainment centers" (lava links, boomers, malibu grand prix etc etc) which were places that had like giant arcades, miniature golf, a playground, and a go kart track or a small waterpark, the vast majority of these places went insolvent and bellyup for a variety of reasons and ended up being torn down, many older anons grew up to watch a sentimental tacky arcade be physically ripped apart

Malls are such pleasant space. It is actually epitome of pedestrian entertainment/leisure street

>no bad weather, no cold, no hot

>no towering buildings around that unconsciously frighten people

>restaurants and water closets in the immediate reach

>no cars threatening to run over and deafening you with their 120+db noise

>place is public but security is minute away to stop crime

"Public spaces" >>14363841 pushed by urbanism are joke comparing to the mall. Only US lost to the "diversity" turning safe place into crime spots.

Setting and Mechanics

>Planetoid with a Mall spanning the surface

>built during a financial boom the malls were later abandoned during a financial crash

>The malls were built along hyperspace trade routes

>have to abandon your ship

>Escape pod crash lands in the Mall

>Minimalist interface. Think Dead Space.

>Must scavenge supplies to survive and establish a safe house while awaiting rescue

>Psychological based fear. Things seen out of the corner of the eye, unexplained noises, etc.

>You are never given concrete evidence that you are alone/not alone.

>Maps only in fixed locations

>Ordinary pre-recorded announcements are played over the intercom

>The announcements grow stranger or more specific to your current task/location

>no sounds except for occasional mall music which only plays in certain sections

>Area's fucked up as a result of a "Seeding" malfunction. Pits straight down, no gravity etc.

>power cells can be found to temporarily restore power to a store. Allowing you to have lighting and closing the shutters for security while you sleep.

Objectives

>construct some sort of distress beacon or such to call for help.

>repair an old damaged ship in docking bay

>Repairing solar panels to restore power to sections of the Mall (would need some sort of space suit)

>Reapiring generators in maintenance levels to restore power to elevators lighting etc

>clearing flooded sections or finding equipment to pass through it

Intro

>Alarms blaring onboard a freighter/cargo ship

>PC seen running towards the escape pods

>once inside the pod he begins to search for the nearest habitable location

>only thing nearby is an old abandoned Planet Mall

>He sets a course and launches

>an explosion from the ship as he's launching damages his pod

>he crashlands in the mall

Antagonist

>The Announcer

>Has control over the security camera's, doors, and elevators of the Mall

>controls "The Janitors"

>Is not defined as to what it actually is

>Wants to keep the PC within the Mall

>Tries to kill the PC when he attempts to leave the Mall

>The Janitors

>robotic mannequins

>they are inert until activated by The Announcer

>They perform tasks for the Announcer

>never seen to be moving by the player

>have a tendency to show up in areas where there shouldn't be Mannequins

Lore

>Malls were built during a financial boom.

>Planetoids get 'seeded' by manufacturing machines and the surface gets covered automatically, a fractal mall.

>Sometimes there are mistakes, rarely but they happen. Odd geometry. Scale mistakes. Open spaces with a drop down into miles of blackness.

>Some time after, there was a financial crash and the malls were abandoned.

>The mall planet's were just left to rot away. They are self sustaining enough to maintain an atmosphere and gravity. But there are malfunctions.

>this would be conveyed through a newspaper or magazine article.

>While also throwing in some small hints that that might have just been a cover story.

>the idea being to keep it vague to allow for player interpretation

6c618f No.14388510

I never went to malls. And I got my toys from toys r us and no I dont miss that since video games are better.
