Already tried that route and from what I found at least. If they haven't done so already they either won't care or thinks there is nothing wrong with AlphabetGoogleM(N)SApple. Best case scenario is they are aware but need more help than just "use this instead" You have to (with their permission obviously) go and configure the setting or machines for them.

I would not recommend duckduckgo. SearX and Startpage seems ok at this time of writing. Browsers, imo there is no one stop solution the same way security should be treated as a layer not a singular thing.

I still recommend a fixed w7 if they want pc gayming over 10. Avoid 10 home/pro if at all possible. But since most people just use what comes with the box or machine. I'd rather recommend getting a cheap or used secondary box and split their computing and gayming. Use loonix for anything online or sensitive and wangblows for non critical use. If they insist on 10 and have some tech knowhow. Win10 Enterprise\Education and or Enterprise LTSB is the only version of 10 I would touch from MS tbh.
But that's the short term. Longterm will be much trickier. There is no such thing as a completely free and secure system right now. Most modern CPUs have their own blackbox OS running that you don't know for sure what the fuck it's doing. Doesn't mean you should despair however that's how fucked things are right now. If voters are bussed interstate there is almost no way for the vote counters to determine if the voters voted previously due to the different voting standards between the states. Why not have the federal government issue voter IDs with SSNs (different ID numbers of course). Throw in some bio-metric data for extra security. That way people don't need to register to vote which stops different political parties from coercing people.

Golly, why not put a fucking camera in your living room, send all 10 of your finger prints to the feds, record your DNA and Spinal Fluid type to the IRS and eliminate a State's ability to set its own laws.
It shouldn't be that hard getting an ID, like with a passport, go to your local post office sign some papers, show your SSN or birth certificate or green card, pay 5 dollary doos, wait a week or two and you'll be set.
