http://www.construct2.com/

Has anyone here used it themselves?

I prefer game engines that give me more control. It gets really frustrating if you want to make something complicated, But Construct2 does make a great prototyping tool at the very least.

Just like buy GameMaker

The Next Penelope was alright but I haven't seen or played much stuff made on Construct2. The webpage seems like its going for the tard audience.

Honestly, using the engine I can see why. A lot of work is done for you. You can make something simple REALLY fast. But if you want to implement your own custom movement, or really just replace tools they provide in general, You're in for a struggle. I'd recommend it to people who want to see if they'd even like game design in the first place.

I took a small workshop on it in college. It has potential if you know how to use it and one of its stregnths is how easy it is to export yoir projects to mobile, webpage, exe. Id recommend it but its been forever since I used it last. The free version allows games with up to 100 objects but pirating is always an option.

What's the point in making simple things, video games need fresh ideas not tired and mastered 8 bit era simplicities.

Understanding how to create the basics is necessary to know how to reach beyond them. It's harder than it looks. If you start off your gamedev ambitions with your dream project, you'll probably fuck up early and it will cost you down the line. Start small, work up.

I don't know whether Construct 2 is useful for this or not, but I'd suggest working with whatever you would like to use for bigger and better projects.

Construct is OK, but it's inferior to GameMaker. The pre-built stuff for Construct is much easier to use, but customising shit for Construct is a real pain in the ass. It's the opposite with GameMaker.

GameMaker exports better too. Last time I tried Construct 2 it worked well in HTML5 but other stuff was iffy.

I used it for a 24h game jam, wound up making 2 shitty little games. I'm a programmer, it's definitely intended for baristas.

You are not learning how to do the basics if the engine is doing it for you.
