I'm trying to rule out the problem with my new build is my PSU is too weak. I have a MB with a bad socket, and an MB with a good socket, both MSI mpgz390s. Neither of them even light up with my current PSU which powers my z-87a ASUS board.

SO WILL A MB NOT EVEN LIGHT UP IF IT DOESN'T GET ENOUGH JUICE???

It's been my experience that if a mobo is getting any power at all you should see (LED) or hear something (beep). If nothing then something is dead, either the mobo, the psu, or both.
