I'm not an idiot, I don't think... but I don't understand wave / particle duality.

It's actually pretty simple: every experiment that would prove conclusively that light is a particle is validated. Every experiment that would conclusively prove that light is a wave is also validated. Conclusion: it's neither.

well to keep it simple without many math.. a view scientists try to shoot some particles trough a super small wall with 2 slits. what they discover is that if the particles are observed when being shot you see the normal pattern like when you would shoot tennis balls for example. but if they didnt observe it. it showed the pattern you would see if it was a wave. strange huh. the conclusion is when you force a particle to show its exact location you can see it. if you dont the place is not determent. then its just a chance if its at point A or point B. thats also how quanthum tunneling works... but thats another story.

Aight, let me take a shot at it.

An unobserved stream of light/electrons passing through two wavelength sized adjacent slits results in an interference pattern (bunch of bright and dark spots) suggesting wave nature of particles.

But when observed with a detector to see if one particle is being split across two slits (which it didn't) it resulted in just two bright spots along the slits, indicating the particle nature.

So, that shows there is wave/particle duality to matter. But why it shows different results in different conditions is unexplained so far.

Now go read up the Wikipedia page until you're convinced.

measurement in this instance can only attain a binary result so when you actively observe it, it has to appear to be one or the other for the time you measure it but this is not it's absolute property rather the state it's in when being observed

Here : waves of what? Particles!

Waves are what things do not what they are. P.s. particles are fields.
