3D printers "singularity" was a meme?

>new industrial revolution

>self replicating replicators

It's a meme because journos were thinking too far in front of their face despite having the attention span of an ADHD squirrel.

3D printers are neat as fuck, great for prototyping but even injection molding is leagues ahead of 3d printers in terms of replication speed.

It's a tool anon, and like any tool it has it's uses.Journos are retards is a known universal truth but that doesn't make 3D printers any less neatoburrito. Heck, you can literally 3D print a gun and basically pay cents for what used to be chinkshit plastic crap like 10 years agoeven if you aren't into the maker culture, and all for the price of 200 burgercoupons and a bit of time.

And if you are into the maker scene it's a godsend for prototyping. Before you either make cardboard mockups or wasted a lot of time and effort fabricating shit on expensive ass machines. Now? a bit of solidworks and badabing badaboom, a day later, product.

3d printers are magic technology.

People are unironically pirating bad dragon sex toys by downloading 3d models from their colour preview site then printing the negatives for silicon pouring.

SLA printers and the like have incredible quality compared to the rudimentary plastic wire extruders.

This /thread

but to give more info:

3D Printers are useful for prototyping and small parts replacement (where it makes sense i.e. a part not under a lot of mechanical stress).

Parts that, mind you, are sometimes unobtainable because the sellers don't exist anymore or sum shit.
