From my understanding, Pixiv is a great source for original fanart of your favorite animu. Especially considering it is a Japanese community and most of the artists are Nips. Having your art come "from the source" is always a plus.

Yes. Pixiv is where just about all the artists whose stuff you have seen on a booru is posted. Even if you do use a booru it's still good to have a pixiv account because not every piece of art by every artist is uploaded to a booru. You can also more directly follow your favorite artists there. A booru is more useful for looking for searching within tags or looking for pictures that an artist may have deleted on pixiv.

It's really not complicated at all and there are guides on the internet everywhere about it. And it is totally worth it.
