Hey guys, need references on obscure (difficult to find on google or elsewhere) anime animation techniques. If the thread already existed post link. Thanks.

What do you mean by obscure animation techniques? Please elaborate.

By obscure i mean that are of limited or special use when animating. Like taking 12 frames of already painted frames and duplicating them to have 24; a technique done in the 80s or so i've heard.

There are few in-depth articles about japanese animation on washi's blog and animanga:
https://washiblog.wordpress.com/2011/01/18/anime-production-detailed-guide-to-how-anime-is-made-and-the-talent-behind-it/
http://www.animanga.com/cels/info/cels.html
It's not exactly about obscure techniques, but you might find something there.
You can also take a read about limited animation in general http://ani-films.blogspot.com.tr/2012/03/limited-animation.html
And of course there's the book "The Anime Machine", you can take a look at it here https://film7000.files.wordpress.com/2014/10/thomaslamarre-2009-theanimemachine.pdf

Typo, meant mango; I wish it would have animu.
