While metal music is a distinctly huwhite artform, Christian conservative right wingers were never in full agreement with the black metal crowd. Nihilists and neo-pagans have always been a fringe in those circles. Like how William Luther Pierce's organization backed some skinhead punk rock and hardcore projects because of some shared beliefs even though he distanced himself from that crowd at the same time.
Now, having said all that, it is still undeniable that Cannibal Holocaust by Andrea Chainsaw Greenspan is an amazing album and probably the closest thing we'll ever see to the black metal scene gaining any real traction with a mainstream audience.

I was going to say pretty much the opposite, that it's more the pagan stuff within the genre that appealed to people with ethno-nationalist tendencies. I thought Varg stopped making metal when he got all concervative to. Also I guess the straightedge hardcore people could've ended up being conservative but I don't know if that's much of a scene among young people anymore.
