The whole point of stories is that they're meant to be retold. And Disney did a far better job of retelling the simba/kimba story than the Japanese. More importantly Disney also did a 1000× better job at animation than the Japanese. The Japanese have almost no skill at all in drawing facial expressions, perhaps because in Japanese culture it's taboo to make eye contact so the Japanese don't really even see facial expressions.
The only expression Japanese know is "mouth fully open and pupils in the corner of the eye."
Compare the facial expressions of Kimba vs Disney. Disney is 1000× better and more skilled. Kimba looks like shit. Kimba The White Lion looks like a cartoon made for little babies. Kimba looks like a mascot for a brand of baby food or baby diapers.

That is because you never look at 1997 Leo movie .the animation are far better than 1960s series . and to be honest if you read the original 3 manga books. you will see there are a lot of facial expressions with many african people which they must cut out because " Das ray cis"
