I'm fucking done with the state of the internet in our modern time. Privacy is literally a thing of the past. Nothing we do on the internet isn't stored on some fucker's server, router, or other device.

I hate how software services will tell you that their software offers privacy or anonymity, and attempt to sell that as their main bargaining point. But when you decided to dive a little deeper and read further about their promised "privacy and anonymity," you'll see a line somewhere in there like, "Well... our services do offer privacy, but not complete privacy, only some privacy, we almost give you privacy." Wait what?! Almost? What the fuck does that mean?? I'll tell you what it means, it's like if you went into the bathroom to shit or masturbate, usually you would be able to do this with COMPLETE privacy because there's no one or nothing watching you, but with "almost privacy" it's like the bathroom you're in has a camera mounted on the wall and pointing directly at you. The promise that they give you is, "we won't look at the camera footage while you're taking a shit. ...well, unless we want to for any reason that is hehehe :3 just don't give us a reason to or hope we just don't sneek a peek every once in a while."

Not to mention that the entire fucking internet is becoming more and more regulated by the second. Which greatly hinders the amount of information available on the web. And I'm sure the government's nipples get hard when they have control over the world's largest reservoir of information and can control what they do and do not want on it. We'll probably have something similar to China were nothing doesn't go through the government for approval before becoming available on the web in a couple of years.

And if government control of the clearnet wasn't enough. They also have essentially complete control over the darknet as well. Tor promises anonymity, which essentially means you can do anything on the internet and nobody can know who you are. Well... as long as you follow good practices while doing so. Oh and uh... if someone doesn't hack and view the beginning and ending tor circuits, then you should have complete anonymity. Oh fuck, but that's only... well... unless the government doesn't get involved at least.

Dark web markets die like flies. The government shuts them down almost daily if their successful genuine markets and not just scams. Which one could say is a win for society, until you realize that these markets practice better opsec and online tor practices than the average user. And if the government or even a third-party individual really wanted to, could find out who you are. So now we're left with a dark web that no longer stands up to the infamous reputation that it once held. You used to be able to go onto a dark wiki with a huge list of onion sites that would take you to services that could hide you from any government, services that could give you access to content and resources not allowed in your country and even the most immoral content on the web. But when the government didn't like that, they decided to just seize control of it and de-anonymize tor's users. Now hidden wiki's only host legal onion links and won't even touch any of the darker stuff out of fear of being shut down and thrown in prison. So almost all the "bad" websites are extinct due to being starved of traffic and so easily de-anonymized on tor. Which as I said, seems like a win. But...

Now the people have no power. When you see signs of misuse of or abuse of something like on tor, or even the clearnet back in the day. That means people have the power to do so. And if those people have the power to do bad things with it, then the people who want to use it for good things also have the power to do so. The fact we are no longer seeing signs of misuse of tor or the clearnet is a BAD thing. Because that also renders legal and moral use of tor and the clearnet useless in the case that the government or any powerful third-party decides to fuck over general society. Which one could say is happening right now. And the internet is just one out of the many, many, many things the people are losing power over. We are now powerless cattle in a farmer's pen waiting for slaughter. We couldn't even amass power if we wanted to. We are helpless because we can no longer help ourselves. The majority is now owned by the minority. Welcome to the modern dark age brethren. We're fucked.

TL;DR privacy and anonymity is extinct on the the internet. Because the internet is becoming more and more controlled by the government and the people are losing power over it. This is just one thing we've lost power over as a people. We're powerless and fucked if those with power decide they don't like us anymore.

Does this matter? Just don't access illegal content, and you are safe.

I make my point on why it matters on the last paragraph. 8kun cut my shitty long ass post, so you probably only read the first three paragraphs.

well, the links to those cp sites recently got removed from the clear net, so unless someone re-posts the link to those sites, then they cannot easily be found.....

Privacy never existed; especially on the internet. think about it you are basically "logging into" someone elses Computer and giving them your IP, mac addr., etc. etc.

Hell go back to ARPA-Net / Unix times admins could litterly go into your Home folder / email inbox and see everything you are doing.

Technically, this also applies to VPNs, which are also traceable

That’s true, maybe I’m just thinking about when everything was less regulated by the government because less people were using it.
