Been there. Was hot as hell- I was in Chennai and jaipur mostly.
Very very crowded. There are people shitting in the street. Shocking poverty. Food was quite good. Taj Majal was truly a moving experience. Jaipur was suprisingly cosmopolitan. Did not go to Mumbai. Felt like a constant target for scammers while in the countryside- the city not so much.

It seems to be a very polarized country- in all senses of the word.
Your country's mythology is fascinating as hell, and yet there's such a huge contrast between the absolute class of the country and how awful things can get. I've heard India being named "the world's richest third world country" because of that.
