I once met a convict in Oregon, I will call him Bob. Bob told me that of the 25 or 26 kids in his middle school. Only 3 were currently living. Oh course this was an alarming statement so I proceeded to ask him why and what had happened. He explained that the backwoods town he lived in (unnamed for this story) was built on top of an old WWII Nazi prisoner of war camp. He claimed that he knew where a large stash old gold was in the town and was attempting to recruit me for a robbery. Being of a curious nature (knowing full well I was not going to go robbing) I entertained his notion to see where it might unfurl. Before long we were on a road trip to the town where Bob proceeded to tell me more about the place we were going. He explained that the town had burned down in the late 40's after there was a prison break of Nazi's from the interment camp. He said we we go scout the location where the foundations of the house remained and mentioned we could collect old bottles and artifacts from the ruins. Bob also told me that the newly constructed dam in the region was actually a secret underground facility and that he was going to show me that too. He explained how the dam project went several millions over budget to complete (Much like Denver International). We reached the town in a couple of hours and Bob directed me towards the old foundations of the burnt out houses. Just as he said, only bottles and brick and cement remained of the area. We then drove past his "target" house to case the joint. It was a regular humdrum house that blended with all the other houses on the block. He then told me there was a house up the street that was built upon hydraulics which could lift, allowing persons access to an underground environment. I didn't believe it, so he had me drive to the house and park the car at the house to have a look. He said the place was uninhabited but as walked onto the property a woman came out of the door asking our business. We politely informed her we had the wrong house, walked to the car, got in and nearly as soon as we took off, a police car came cruising by. Being a bit paranoid of the situation we redirected to go have a look at the dam. Arriving at the dam, it was as he described, complete with high fencing, new concrete and a nifty little road leading under the mountain, blocked by a retractable door. Bob's story was checking out. Time is what we have, MOAB.

Time to think.

Time to act.

Time to waste.

Time to reflect.

How we behave in uncertain times, uncertain futures, and with nothing but time to think about them all will measure our strengths as human beings. It is a good time to reflect on who we are and what we truly want from this life experience in the world.

The enemy seeks to divide us with the illusion that we are different. Wisdom is seeing the ambiguity for its true nature.

Are we so different from those who are different from us? Do we not all bleed red and breathe the same air? Do we not all have the same laugh in spite of our language barriers? Do we not all smile when feeling loved? How, then, are we different? Do our minor individualities dictate that we must hate one another? Apply that to race. Apply that to gender. Apply that to politics. Apply that to religion.

Perhaps there are two kinds of villain: the evil and the misguided. The evil have an insatiable lust for power because they cannot find a way to be happy. They always seek to fulfill gratification from external means. Their foolish pride prevents them from considering that what they are truly missing is inside of them. Their souls are mourned in Heaven, for they refuse to separate themselves from their sin.

The misguided can be saved by opening their eyes. Although their positions vary, their values align with ours. Maybe that is what we are asked to do. We gain some trust by leveling with those different from us, by illustrating our similarities. We keep that trust by showing the truth, while admitting that we ourselves do not quite understand it. Humility is the antithesis of pride, and it is this hidden strength that will always be overlooked by santa, no matter how many times he is exposed to it. The source of light can blind itself if it does not place value on the balance of shadows.
