Bitcoin mining is so hot right now (in Texas).

After going quiet for an extended period thanks to “crypto winter,” the business of Bitcoin mining is back. Just ask Peter Thiel, who is backing a crypto-mining startup called Layer1 Technology, which has raised more than $50 million from venture capitalists and just opened a 30-acre mining facility in Texas. Layer1 joins several companies, including once-dominant firm Bitmain, that have built or expanded mining operations in recent months.

Why Texas? Layer1’s CEO Alexander Liegl tells Fortune that “the cheapest electricity in the world, at scale, is in West Texas right now” thanks to a combination of factors including a glut of natural gas from fracking and renewable power investments by the state government that have resulted in inexpensive wind power.

A resurgent Bitmain has also targeted Texas, and recently opened a 50 megawatt (MW) mining site there that it plans to expand to 300 MW. And a third competitor, Northern Data AG, is also setting up shop in the Lone Star State, with a 100-acre mining farm. Layer1 hasn’t revealed how much capacity its new site has at the moment, but the company tells The Block that it expects to reach 100 MW within months.

Bring him in and question him because he was an operational plant originally put in the White House under John Brennan (former CIA Director) under Obama. He was back in the White House in the Trump Administration, and they missed him, and then he engaged in an operation against the President of the United States with a false whistleblower report.”

The whistleblower’s boss, CIA Director Gina Haspel, is in on the operation and impeachment hoax, according to Shipp. Shipp says, “Haspel would have taken administrative penalties against him. She would have come out publicly and decried what he did, and she has done none of that. . . . In my opinion, it indicates she is supporting it, yes.”

Need help anons. Live in a liberal shithole. Mailman started putting my Trump fundraiser mail in my neighbor's mailboxes at my apartment and my neighbors have been taping my mail up in the common area at my apartment.

I reported it to the national OIG Post Master's office explicitly stating I did not want it investigated by my local office due to expected bias. They forwarded it to my local office and the local Post Master (registered Democrat) responded that they were going to investigate. Haven't heard from them in two months.

This is voter intimidation by a government employee. How can I escalate this? If my government job found out about my political views I am sure I would be let go for no reason because I live in an At-Will state.

Sweden is now testing its digital version of cash.

The Riksbank, Sweden’s central bank, has announced the launch of a year-long pilot project of its proposed e-krona. The project will use distributed ledger technology inspired by the blockchains that run cryptocurrencies.

Physical cash is headed toward obsolescence in Sweden. Nearly everyone uses a mobile payment application called Swish, and it’s been estimated that retailers could stop accepting cash by 2023. This concerns the country’s central bankers, for two reasons. First, they fear if the payment infrastructure is left completely to the private sector certain groups might be excluded. Second, if people lose the ability to convert their commercial bank account money into a form of “cash” backed by the government it might undermine their faith in the money system.

That’s why, a few years ago, the Riksbank began investigating the possibility of a state-backed digital currency that might play a similar role that physical cash does today.

For a recent article on the future of cash, I spoke with Riksbank economist Gabriel Söderberg, who argued that whereas private companies are motivated by profit, the central bank would be focused on offering a public good. It has an incentive to focus on making a digital payment system that is user-friendly and accessible to everyone.

According to a press release, the pilot project will run until the end of February 2021. But there could be more tests. “There is currently no decision on issuing an e-krona, how an e-krona might be designed or what technology might be used.” Söderberg told me that the decision over whether to issue a sovereign digital currency will need to involve the Swedish public. “This decision is too big for a central bank alone, at least in the Swedish context.”

ICE Throws Down the Gauntlet, Arresting Two Illegal Aliens in a California Courthouse

ICE agents arrested two illegal aliens in a courthouse in Northern California, defying a state law that says they needed a warrant from a judge to do so.

ICE flouted a new state law that requires the warrant before arresting an illegal on courthouse grounds. After the predictable outcry from courthouse officials and others, ICE calmly gave their rationale.

Los Angeles Times:

ICE said in a statement that California’s law doesn’t supersede federal law and “will not govern the conduct of federal officers acting pursuant to duly enacted laws passed by Congress that provide the authority to make administrative arrests of removable aliens inside the United States.”

“Our officers will not have their hands tied by sanctuary rules when enforcing immigration laws to remove criminal aliens from our communities,” David Jennings, ICE’s field office director in San Francisco, said in the statement.

In other words, ICE is telling critics to go climb a tree.

ICE's actions follow the deployment of Customs and Border Patrol agents to sanctuary cities and states. The state government of California bitterly criticized that move, but find themselves unable to do anything to prevent it. The Department of Homeland Security, the agency under which ICE and CBP operate, can send its personnel anywhere they see fit to send them.

Critics of the arrests dragged out the usual excuse: illegals will now hesitate before helping the police or participating in the legal system.

Sonoma County Dist. Atty. Jill Ravitch, Public Defender Kathleen Pozzi and San Francisco Dist. Atty. Chesa Boudin condemned the arrests for undermining public safety. Sonoma County Counsel Bruce Goldstein called ICE’s actions lawless because the agents had no warrants.

“It’s now going to put total fear in the community,” Pozzi said in an interview with the Press Democrat. “People aren’t going to come to court. Victims will refuse to show up. Witnesses will refuse to show up … cases will have to get dismissed.”

ICE said both men had been arrested by immigration officers numerous times from 2004 to 2010 and returned to Mexico several times.

The illegals don't respect the judicial system anyway. If they did, they wouldn't be illegal in the first place.

There is a real constitutional issue involved here. The Supremacy Clause (Article VI) makes state law that conflicts with federal law inoperative. There are no strictures ever passed by Congress on where immigration arrests can be made. And while the feds usually give way as a courtesy to states, they are under absolutely no obligation to do so in this case.

California is likely to find a friendly judge who will slap an injunction on ICE until the courts resolve the issue. But unless the United States Congress acts to restrict ICE from arresting illegals in a specific place, like a courthouse, the state is bound to lose.
