Financial tyranny: America has become a pay-to-play exercise in fascism
We’re not living the American Dream. We’re in the grip of a financial nightmare.
“We the people” have become the new, permanent underclass in America.
We get taxed on how much we earn, taxed on what we eat, taxed on what we buy, taxed on where we go, taxed on what we drive, and taxed on how much is left of our assets when we die, and yet we have no real say in how the government runs, or how our taxpayer funds are used.
Case in point: Lawmakers across the country have been acting as fronts for corporations, sponsoring more than 10,000 model laws written by corporations, industry groups and think tanks such as the American Legislative Exchange Council.
Make no mistake: this is fascism disguised as legislative expediency.
As a recent investigative report by USA TODAY, The Arizona Republic and the Center for Public Integrity points out, these copycat bills have been used to “override the will of local voters” and advance the agendas of the corporate state. “Disguised as the work of lawmakers, these so-called ‘model’ bills get copied in one state Capitol after another, quietly advancing the agenda of the people who write them.”
In this way, laws that promise to protect the public “actually bolster the corporate bottom line.”
For example, “The Asbestos Transparency Act didn’t help people exposed to asbestos. It was written by corporations who wanted to make it harder for victims to recoup money. The ‘HOPE Act,’ introduced in nine states, was written by a conservative advocacy group to make it more difficult for people to get food stamps.”
Talk about Orwellian.
So we have no real say in how the government runs, or how our taxpayer funds are used, but that doesn’t prevent the government from fleecing us at every turn.
This is true whether you’re talking about taxpayers being forced to fund high-priced weaponry that will be used against us, endless wars that do little for our safety or our freedoms, or bloated government agencies such as the National Security Agency with its secret budgets, covert agendas and clandestine activities. Even monetary awards in lawsuits against government officials who are found guilty of wrongdoing are paid by the taxpayer.
We’re being forced to pay for endless wars that do more to fund the military industrial complex than protect us, for misguided pork barrel projects that do little to enhance our lives, and for the trappings of a police state that serves only to imprison us within its walls.
All the while the government continues to do whatever it likes—levy taxes, rack up debt, spend outrageously and irresponsibly—with little thought for the plight of its citizens.

And once again, we’ve got to decide whether we’ll keep marching or break stride and make a turn toward freedom.
But what if we didn’t just pull out our pocketbooks and pony up to the federal government’s outrageous demands for more money?

What if, instead of quietly sending in our tax checks, hoping vainly for some meager return, we did a little calculating of our own and started deducting from our taxes those programs that we refuse to support?

Groups such as the Neturei Karta, an anti-Zionist movement of orthodox Jews, profess a belief that the Jewish people have no right to the land of Israel, given to them by the generosity of God in the Old Testament, because they were not faithful to God’s covenant. This was the general understanding of Catholics at the beginning of the 20th century, as well. On the Neturei Karta website, they state, “The Creator gave us the Holy Land thousands of years ago. Yet, when we sinned, He took it away and sent us into exile. Since that time our task is to wait for Him to send the Messiah. At that time, the Creator alone, without any human being lifting a hand or saying a word, will bring us together and take us out of exile.” Also, on their website, one may find pictures of orthodox Jews, complete with traditional locks and long beards, standing at protests burning Israeli flags and holding signs with slogans like “Judaism Rejects Zionism” and “We are against ‘Israel’ because we are Jews.” Arguing that Zionism is a novel idea without precedent in Jewish tradition until the end of the 19th century, these anti-Zionist orthodox Jews hold that all Jews had this understanding of the diaspora previous to the modern manifestations of Zionism.

Federal judge considers scheduling ex-Obama counsel's trial for August
A federal judge on Monday weighed setting the trial for former Obama White House counsel Gregory Craig for August, according to multiple media reports.
U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson reportedly appeared receptive to an August trial date during a hearing Monday, as suggested by Craig’s attorneys.
But The National Law Journal reported that one of the federal prosecutors in the case, Fernando Campoamar-Sanchez, resisted the suggestion of an early August trial, saying the government was “hoping to get a little more time than that.”
Craig, who left the Obama White House in early 2010, was indicted last week on charges that he made false and misleading statements to the Justice Department tied to lobbying work Paul Manafort hired Craig’s now-former law firm in 2012 to do in Ukraine.
Federal prosecutors allege that Craig made false statements about his media contacts surrounding the release of a report the law firm – Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom – wrote about Ukraine’s imprisonment of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.
Craig last week pleaded not guilty to the charges. And his lawyer reportedly said during Monday’s hearing that Craig will argue that he cannot be charged for omitting facts to federal investigators.
“That is not the law, but that is what this indictment is based on,” Craig’s attorney William W. Taylor said during the hearing, according to The Washington Post. “That is what this case is going to be about.”
Berman gave both parties until June 21 to enter legal filings on whether Craig had violated federal law, The Post reported.
The judge also ordered that Craig turn over his passport to authorities and seek permission before traveling internationally. He is allowed to travel within the U.S. without seeking permission, but must give officials his itinerary two business days before any domestic trip.
The charges against Craig originally stemmed from special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation, before the matter was referred to the Southern District of New York and then again to the Justice Department.
Craig has maintained that he did no wrongdoing in the case, saying in a video posted after his indictment last week that the case "is unprecedented and unjustified.”
"I am confident that both the judge and the jury will agree with me," he said.
Craig left Skadden last year. The law firm reached a settlement with the Justice Department in January, agreeing to register as a foreign agent and pay the Treasury Department $4.6 million over its work for Ukraine.

But a highly classified document produced by the French Directorate of Military Intelligence shows that Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are overwhelmingly dependent on Western-produced weapon systems to wage their devastating war in Yemen. Many of the systems listed are only compatible with munitions, spare parts, and communications systems produced in NATO countries, meaning that the Saudis and UAE would have to replace large portions of their arsenals to continue with Russian or Chinese weapons.
“You can’t just swap out the missiles that are used in U.S. planes for suddenly using Chinese and Russian missiles,” said Rachel Stohl, managing director of the Conventional Defense Program at the Stimson Center in Washington, D.C. “It takes decades to build your air force. The former director of Venezuela’s military spy agency, who is wanted in the United States for facilitating international drug trafficking, has been arrested in Spain and may be extradited to Washington. Hugo Carvajal is a retired general and former diplomat, who was a member of the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez’s inner circle. From 2004 to 2011, under Chávez’s tutelage, Carvajal headed the Directorate General of Military Counterintelligence (DGCIM). But in 2008, the US named Carvajal as a major facilitator of international drugs trafficking and imposed financial sanctions on his assets around the world. Washington accused Carvajal of assisting the paramilitary group known as the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) transport drugs from Latin America to Mexico and from there to the US.
In 2014, the US government officially charged Carvajal with orchestrating a shipment of 1,200lbs of cocaine from Venezuela to Mexico. Washington also charged Carvajal with supplying FARC drug traffickers with Venezuelan passports bearing fake names, which they used to travel internationally to avoid detection. In 2014, Carvajal was arrested by authorities in Aruba, a Dutch overseas territory in Latin America, where he was serving as Venezuela’s consul general. But, to Washington’s dismay, he was released after the Dutch government ruled that his diplomatic immunity gave him immunity from prosecution. Following his release, Carvajal returned to Venezuela, where he was given a hero’s welcome by Chávez’s successor, President Nicolás Maduro. It came as a shock, therefore, when in February of this year Carvajal posted a video on social media in which he denounced Maduro and sided with his arch-nemesis, Juan Guaido, the President of the National Assembly of Venezuela. Carvajal’s issued his video a few weeks after Guaido declared himself president of Venezuela, citing powers afforded to him by the country’s constitution. He has since been openly supported by the United States and dozens of other Western countries. In his video, Carvajal urged the Venezuelan armed forces to stop siding with Maduro and support Guaido as Venezuela’s acting president.
The BBC reported that, shortly after Carvajal’s arrest in Spain, the US Department of Justice filed a formal request for the former spy chief’s extradition to the US. But the Reuters news agency cited an unnamed US government official who said that Carvajal was in possession of a “treasure trove” of intelligence about Maduro’s administration. The US official hinted that Carvajal may have willingly given himself up to Spanish police to express his desire to cooperate with the US. He is scheduled to appear before Spain’s High Court on Saturday. The court has 24 hours following Carvajal’s arrest to rule whether he will be extradited or freed from detention.

Yujing Zhang was formally indicted on Friday on charges of making false statements to a federal officer and entering or remaining in a restricted area. The counts carry a sentence of up to five years in prison.

She was briefly allowed onto the property after staff mistakenly thought she might be the daughter of a club member. An American airstrike in northeastern Somalia has killed the deputy leader of the Islamic State group in the country, U.S. officials said Monday.
Abdulhakim Dhuqub, who was responsible for the extremist group’s daily operations, attack planning and resource procurement, was killed in the vicinity of Xiriiro, in the Bari region, on Sunday.
The U.S. military has been supporting the government of Somalia as it increases the competency of its security forces and pushes back against extremist groups in the country.
U.S. Africa Command said that precision airstrikes support Somali security forces and allow time and space for governance to grow in the country.
“We continue to work with our Somali partners to keep pressure on the al-Shabab and ISIS-Somalia terror networks," said Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Gregg Olson, U.S. Africa Command director of operations. “When it supports the strategy, we use precision airstrikes to target those who plan and carry out the violent extremist activities that put Somalis at risk.”
The airstrikes help to create “organizational confusion within the terrorist networks in Somalia," according to Air Force Col. Chris Karns, an AFRICOM spokesman.
“By consistently placing pressure on the terror networks, it keeps them off balance and reflects the federal government of Somalia’s commitment to enhancing stability and security for the Somali people,” he told Air Force Times. “Various levels of leadership within the terror networks are effectively being targeted and removed from doing further harm to innocent Somalis.”
The strike occurred in an autonomous region of northern Somalia known as Puntland. Most airstrikes have taken place in the southern part of the country. ISIS-Somalia is primarily active in Puntland and is estimated to have roughly 300 members.
ISIS-Somalia is a splinter group of al-Shabab, a group the U.S. says is aligned with al-Qaida and that is also active in Somalia.
At this time, AFRICOM is assessing that the airstrike killed only Dhuqub and destroyed one vehicle.
“Currently, we assess no civilians were injured or killed as a result of this airstrike,” officials said in a statement. “Our process and procedures allow for additional information to inform post-strike analysis.”
U.S. airstrikes killed two civilians in an airstrike on a vehicle on April 1, 2018, in central Somalia. That revelation came after AFRICOM self-reported that an error had been made roughly a year after the strike first occurred.

Ukrainian church split
Since the February 2014 coup, Kiev has sought to create an independent church in Ukraine that would sever ties with the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church. In April 2018, Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko wrote a personal letter to Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople asking for autocephaly for the Ukrainian church.
On December 15, Kiev hosted the so-called ‘unification’ council held under the supervision of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople and brokered by the Ukrainian authorities. The canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church refused to take part in the event, stressing that both the ‘unification council’ and Poroshenko’s newly founded ecclesiastical establishment were illegitimate. Nevertheless, after the council, the Ukrainian president announced the establishment of this new church in the country - the so-called Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

Barr’s letter reportedly made Trump feel emboldened to escalate his attacks on Mueller and his investigators, but some allies of the president are worried the assault might backfire if the special counsel’s report paints an unflattering picture of the president or those close to him.
Such a result could revive the Russia probe as a political issue for Democrats and cast the victory lap the president took in the aftermath of Barr’s letter, during which he claimed “complete and total exoneration,” in a more negative light.

The Israeli Air Force (IAF) used Rampage supersonic precision-guided missiles in its recent attack on the towns of Masyaf and Umm Haratayn in Syria’s Hama, Iranian defense analyst Babak Taghvaee claimed on April 14.
Rampage is an air-launched version of the EXTRA artillery rocket system developed by Israel’s IMI Systems. The missile, which entered serial production this year, is guided by an inertial navigation system (INS) and GPS.
The specific range of the new Israeli missile is unknown. However, Boaz Levy, General Manager and Executive Vice President of IAI’s Rockets and Space Group told Jane’s that Rampage is a supersonic all-weather day/night air-to-surface missile with a stand-off range of “100s of kilometers.
According to Taghvaee, the IAF opted to use Rampage for the first time due to the danger of the Syrian Arab Air Defense Forces (SyAADF) S-300PMU2 system, which is deployed in Masyaf’s outskirt.
The missile’s high speed and alleged long-range makes it prefect for sensitive missions. However, there is no solid evidence supporting the claim that it was used in the recent Israeli attack.
The Israeli airstrikes on April 13 destroyed the College of Management, the Scientific Research center and the Accounting School in Masyaf and what appears to be a missile site near the town of Umm Haratayn. More than 20 people were reportedly injured.

On the 14th ALSO, there was a giant explosion at an Iranian base in Syria from an "unidentified" aircraft or aircrafts that was blamed on Israel.
It seriously crippled Iranian forces in that area, of Northern Syria.
Q asked "What if Iran created a classified ‘satellite’ Nuclear facility in Northern Syria?", and also asked "Why did we strike Syria? Why did we really strike Syria?".
I don't think we hit targets AT the facility, but we hit targets at this base to PREVENT anything from continuing there, and Q uses "prevent" a lot in the crumbs I put in the graphic, even saying "Prevent at all costs."
The theory is that Q was telling us we were striking COVERTLY, while the international spectacle of the OVERT airstrikes were happening using supposedly decommissioned F-117 Nighthawks.

Buttigieg’s allies say he was frustrated that Boykins did not tell him about the existence of the investigation. The mayor was alarmed by allegations the officers had been improperly recorded.
Though he had initially asked Boykins to remain on as police chief after his mayoral win, Buttigieg, upon learning of the investigation, asked him to resign.
Boykins complied, but a day later, after consulting with legal counsel and hearing from supporters in the community, he reversed course and asked to be reinstated.
In an interview with The Hill, Boykins’s attorney, Tom Dixon, accused the mayor’s office of misleading his client and trying to scare him into leaving. In a court filing, Boykins said he had stepped down under “the false pretense that the Mayor was being directed into this course of action by the U.S. Attorney’s office.”
Buttigieg relented to a degree, removing Boykins as police chief but keeping him on the force with a demotion to captain.
The mayor also fired DePaepe, believing she had intentionally eavesdropped on the officers to dig up dirt on them. DePaepe disputed that characterization, saying in a court filing that she had “inadvertently stumbled upon conversations” between officers.”

Amid all the cement and steel and bodies that fell from the sky in the World Trade Center collapse, there was art. Most of it was destroyed that September morning, but a few sculptures tumbled a quarter-mile before coming to uneasy rest in the fresh hot debris. They were Rodins.
A bust from The Burghers of Calais, its mask of dignity now dented. Two of the three anguished figures from The Three Shades, broken almost beyond recognition. And, it appears, a cast of the artist's most famous work, one inspired by Dante: The Thinker, in endless contemplation of the human condition.
Now, having survived an actual inferno, these sculptures continue to intrigue, though in ways never imagined by their maker.
For there is a small trailer sitting on top of the mountainous Fresh Kills Landfill on Staten Island. Outside its locked doors, workers hunt through the last truckloads of World Trade Center rubble for any remains of the estimated 2,800 victims. Inside rest an engine from American Airlines Flight 11, which struck the north tower; two airplane wheels; two figures from The Three Shades; and the bust of the Calais burgher, sitting upright and facing the door.
There's extraordinary symbolism, isn't there, said John L. Tancock, a vice president at Sotheby's auction house and the former curator of the Rodin Museum in Philadelphia. They have survived in this state, and it can be viewed as an inspirational story.
As reported earlier this month by The New York Post, city investigators believe that the 28-inch sculpture may have been stolen, after having been recovered by a firefighter at the disaster site late last year. As a result, investigators have been at Fresh Kills and at ground zero in recent weeks, flashing a photograph of The Thinker and asking, in effect: Have you seen this symbol of humanity?
Millions of dollars of artwork was destroyed in the disaster of Sept. 11, from privately owned paintings displayed in corporate offices to publicly owned pieces, like the World Trade Center tapestry by Miró that hung in the mezzanine of 2 World Trade Center. But no matter how valuable the artwork, it all seemed trivial, even meaningless, given how many people were lost.
For example, the Cantor Fitzgerald bond trading firm and its chairman, Howard W. Lutnick, have refused to discuss in any depth the loss of its art collection. What did any of that matter when 658 of the company's 960 employees working in the building – including Mr. Lutnick's brother, Gary – perished in the collapse?
Still, the works of Auguste Rodin have long figured in the culture at Cantor Fitzgerald; until a few years ago, the company symbol was The Thinker.
The statue's creator was as industrious as he was gifted. Rodin made several casts of some of his sculptures and often sized them to order for patrons, a standard 19th-century practice. Before he died in 1917, he bequeathed his plaster models and founding rights to the French government. Since then, the Musée Rodin in Paris has occasionally authorized the limited casting of certain works; that is why, for example, there are a few dozen casts of The Thinker in museums and private collections around the world.
This does not mean that authentic casts of The Thinker can be purchased just anywhere. As Clare Vincent, a specialist in European sculpture at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, put it, They don't come in hundreds by any means.

But one man, B. Gerald Cantor, did spend many years acquiring the French artist's work, eventually amassing the world's largest private Rodin collection, with more than 750 sculptures, prints and drawings. A co-founder of Cantor Fitzgerald, he used some of the company's office space in the World Trade Center as a Rodin gallery for several years, before donating most of his collection to museums and galleries.
He died in 1996, shortly after a tense settlement with Mr. Lutnick regarding control of the company's future. Despite the internal squabbling, the company's embrace of Rodin continued; the company maintained a small collection of Rodin sculptures, and displayed some of his most famous works in its lobby on the 105th floor of the north tower.
On a limestone pedestal sat a bust of Jean d'Aire from Rodin's Burghers of Calais, which honored six citizens who, in 1347, yoked themselves together and prepared to die so that their city could be spared the further wrath of an invading English army. In Jean D'Aire's expression, Mr. Tancock said, can be seen myriad emotions: Heroism, resignation, strength; dignity in a humiliating situation.
Also dominating the lobby were The Thinker and The Three Shades, both born of a decades-long quest by the artist to complete an ambitious work, The Gates of Hell, that had been inspired by his reading of Dante, Baudelaire and the Bible. The Adam-like figures in The Three Shades seem in torment, The Thinker in almost somber concentration.
These and other works were on display when Flight 11 slammed into the north tower on Sept. 11.
More than two months later, Joan Vita Marotta – who until 1989 was the curator of the Cantor gallery in the north tower – was sitting in her suburban Buffalo home, watching a news program about the recovery efforts at Fresh Kills. All of a sudden the camera shows a fuselage from one of the airplanes, Ms. Marotta recalled. And lying next to it is a portion of 'The Shades.'
Ms. Marotta's eyes had not deceived her. Most of The Three Shades had made it to the landfill, although barely: a severed foot and two headless bodies.
Several months later, in March, a firefighter taking part in the recovery effort in Lower Manhattan found the bust of Jean d'Aire. It was turned over to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which owns the trade center site and which photographed the bust and documented the discovery (bronze head sculpture) in its computer logs.
A few days later, on March 11, the Port Authority turned the bust over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which stored it in that trailer at Fresh Kills, along with the remnants of The Three Shades and an engine from the very plane that had struck the north tower. And there these battered Rodins sit, until the day – possibly this week – when representatives from Cantor Fitzgerald come to retrieve them.
It's just absolutely astonishing, said Ms. Vincent, of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It really is incredible to me that they could have survived that sort of inferno, even remotely in recognizable form.
Even more interesting – at least to the city's Department of Investigation – is what is not in that trailer; namely, The Thinker. Rumors of its survival persisted for months, until investigators sensed that the story was much more than yet another urban myth to rise from the disaster site.
A senior law enforcement official said that a firefighter working at ground zero came across The Thinker sometime late last year, and that there even exists a photograph of a firefighter posing next to the small statue. But when city investigators later questioned the firefighter in the photograph, the official said, he claimed to have last seen the sculpture on Dec. 6, in a temporary headquarters that the Fire Department was operating near the disaster site.
Deputy Fire Commissioner Francis X. Gribbon confirmed that investigators have questioned firefighters about The Thinker, but he would not elaborate. The department is aware of this investigation and is cooperating with those conducting it, he said.
A spokesman at Cantor Fitzgerald who declined to be identified said that the company planned to use the remnants of its Rodin collection to create an appropriate memorial to lost friends and colleagues. Meanwhile, the hunt continues for a small bronze statue of a man contemplating the meaning of it all.
