I would expect an ip number to be able to be used in place of a domain name in my browser address bar.

It works that way with my Brave/Android browser connecting to my simple Apache server setup on my Linode: it gives the web page.

Using the addresses in your answer section, they both give ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED.

When I use dig I get different results, 104.18.105.234 and 104.18.104.134.

Then using my browser the response is 403 FORBIDDEN, and identifies as a CloudFlare server.

CloudFlare is looking for a header that says 8ch.net is my guess.

Maybe the ip address needs to be entered into the local machines DNS table to work (the hosts file?)

I don't know how to do this on an unrooted Android, let alone any other than Unix.

Anyway thats a bummer I just cant enter the ip address into the browser and it works.

It would have to be just that easy to be a viable alternative to DNS for most people.
