Pelosi offers US security assistance to Russian ally

The sovereignty of Armenia is of value to America, the House speaker claims

US House Speaker Nanacy Pelosi blamed Azerbaijan for the current flareup with Armenia and offered security assistance to Yerevan, as she arrived to the Armenian capital on Sunday.

Pelosi said her trip was of prime importance in view of the “illegal and deadly attacks by Azerbaijan on Armenian territory.”

“We strongly condemn those attacks. This was initiated by the Azeris and there has to be recognition of that,” she insisted.

Border clashes erupted between Armenia and Azerbaijan on Tuesday, with both sides accusing each other of initiating the violence. Yerevan has said it lost 135 troops in the fighting, with Baku putting its death toll at 79 soldiers.

The two former Soviet republics remain at odds over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, which has been controlled by ethnic Armenian forces, supported by Yerevan, since the 1990s, but is claimed by Azerbaijan as part of its territory.

The neighboring countries fought a 44-day war over Nagorno-Karabakh in 2020, which ended with a Russia-brokered truce and the ceding of some territories to Baku.

“The territorial security and sovereignty of Armenia, the democracy of Armenia is of value to us in America. In our relationships with other countries we should be using our influence, our leverage, showing that Armenian democracy and sovereignty are a priority,” Pelosi insisted.

The resolution condemning Azerbaijan’s aggressive action Armenia will be taken up in Congress soon, the third-highest-ranking US official promised.

Also on Sunday, dozens of people staged a rally in Yerevan demanding that Armenia quit the Russia-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). The demonstrators chanted slogans, while carrying Armenian and US national flags.

Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan earlier addressed CSTO for help amid the current crisis, with Baku offering Yerevan a truce shortly after that. The bloc sent a joint mission to Armenia, but refrained from sending military forces, prompting dissatisfaction from Armenian officials.

Pelosi’s previous visit to another global hotspot – Taiwan – provoked a major spike in tensions between the US and China last month.

US secretly making plans for Guantanamo – WSJ

A senior diplomat has been appointed to oversee transfers of detainees from the prison facility, the outlet reports

The US government has quietly stepped up efforts to close the prison facility at Guantanamo Bay naval base in Cuba, the Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday.

Despite being one of President Joe Biden’s campaign promises, the White House took a low-profile approach to the issue during his first year in office in order to avoid political controversy, sources told the outlet.

But now Washington is moving closer to shutting down the prison, which was set up in 2002 to host foreign terrorists captured abroad, according to the people familiar with the matter.

For the first time, a senior diplomat has been appointed to oversee the transfer of detainees from Guantanamo Bay, the WSJ says. The job of the special representative reportedly went to Tina Kaidanow, a former ambassador-at-large for counterterrorism.

The WSJ said it tried reaching Kaidanow for comment, but the State Department spokesman replied that she was unavailable.

The Biden administration has also been signaling that it wouldn’t interfere with plea negotiations that could resolve the lasting prosecution of alleged 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four other co-defendants, the Wall Street Journal said.

Mohammed is among the 36 detainees currently held at Guantanamo Bay. The infamous facility has hosted around 800 people, often held without charge or trial, over the past two decades. It last received a new inmate back in 2008.

The promise to close Guantanamo Bay was first made by Barack Obama, under whom Biden was vice president.

Back in December, it was reported that the US Department of Defense was moving ahead with a $4 million project to build a new courtroom at the facility.

Biden Issues Warning to Russia Against Using Nuclear Weapons in Ukraine

President Joe Biden warned Russia’s leadership that they should not use nuclear weapons in Ukraine and said Moscow would face unspecified consequences.

“Don’t. Don’t. Don’t,” Biden told CBS’s “60 Minutes” in an excerpt of a rare one-on-one interview Sunday. He issued that response to a question fielded by CBS reporter Scott Pelley about what he would say to Putin if he is considering using nukes during the months-long conflict.

“You will change the face of war unlike anything since World War II,” Biden said.

When asked about what the United States might do in response, Biden declined to elaborate.

“You think I would tell you if I knew exactly what it would be? Of course, I’m not gonna tell you. It’ll be consequential,” the 46th president said. “They’ll become more of a pariah in the world than they ever have been. And depending on the extent of what they do will determine what response would occur.”

Putin has said Moscow would respond more forcefully if its troops were put under further pressure, raising concerns among some western officials that he could at some point use unconventional means like small nuclear or chemical weapons. However, Putin and other top Kremlin officials have repeatedly said Russia is not considering using nuclear weapons.

“It’s brilliant. I think it has really far-reaching implications potentially, but let’s be cautious,” United Kingdom Gen. Sir Richard Shirreff told Fox News. “They’ve achieved great success. They have to maintain their success. Equally, they have to be ready for the Russians to reorganize and counter-attack.”

As it has received billions of dollars in military aid from the United States and European nations, Ukraine recently launched a major offensive to recapture territory in the south, where it hopes to trap thousands of Russian troops cut off from supplies on the west bank of the Dnipro River, and retake Kherson. Kherson is the only large Ukrainian city Russia has captured intact since the start of the war.

In an intelligence update on Twitter, Britain’s Ministry of Defence said that Russia had launched several thousand long-range missiles against Ukraine since the start of the invasion. Those strikes, the ministry has said, have struck targets including an electricity grid and a dam.

“As it faces setbacks on the front lines, Russia has likely extended the locations it is prepared to strike in an attempt to directly undermine the morale of the Ukrainian people and government,” the ministry said.

The only good news is that Joe Biden and the ruling class have a lousy track record at winning wars.

After nearly two years of lies related to the events of January 6, 2021, the regime finally has admitted the truth: The widening legal dragnet to scoop up Donald Trump, his associates, and his voters has nothing to do with the four-hour disturbance on Capitol Hill that afternoon. It is, rather, a thus-far successful crusade to criminalize wrongthink about the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.

A barrage of subpoenas issued recently by the Department of Justice—U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Matthew Graves’ office specifically—against Trump aides is not seeking information about the Capitol protest but personal communications discussing what happened with the election and plans to fight the results. Graves wants records dating back to October 2020 “constituting any evidence (a) tending to show that there was fraud of any kind in or relating to the 2020 Presidential Election, or (b) used or relied upon to support any claim of fraud in relation to the 2020 Presidential Election.”

Targets must produce correspondence detailing “any strategies or options for ensuring the certification of Donald J. Trump.” Graves also is demanding information about how Trump raised money from “efforts to contest the 2020 election.”

Of course, this is what the January 6 hysteria has always been about. As the chaos unfolded on January 6, Joe Biden and his apparatchiks immediately denounced believers of the so-called “Big Lie”—the claim the election had been rigged, if not stolen, by powerful interests who wanted nothing more than to defeat Trump—and vowed revenge would come swiftly. “The totalitarian company line is any suggestion that election fraud exists is tantamount to sedition,” I wrote on January 11, 2021. “Americans who dare doubt the results, a popular political sport for Democrats over the past four years, are now vilified as ‘insurrectionists’ and plenty of our fellow countrymen want it punished accordingly.”

Oh, how their dreams have come true. Nearly 900 Americans face criminal charges for mostly nonviolent participation in the Capitol protest; lives have been destroyed, even ended, as a result of this cruel, vengeful prosecution recently rebranded the “Capitol Siege” investigation by Graves’ office. The weapons used in the first war on terror—secret surveillance, invasive investigation, armed raids, torture, and political prisons to name a few tactics—have been aimed at Trump supporters across the country in a show of force and intimidation.

“Operation MAGA Fascist” appears to be the commander-in-chief’s unofficial name of the regime’s war on terror against millions of Americans, which now is reaching a version of the Battle of Fallujah but without the bloodshed. (Let’s hope.) The unprecedented FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago on August 8 ratcheted up the fever of the war by a considerable measure—the regime’s desired response.

Political leaders and media figures over the weekend remembered 9/11 and equated that attack with the events of January 6 in another brazen comparison between murderous jihadists and Trump supporters. Bragging that the West won the first war on terror, Senator Mark Warner (D-Va.) on Sunday urgedAmericans to unify in the same post-9/11 “spirit” to defeat “election deniers [and] the insurgency that took place on January 6.”

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas warned on the 21st anniversary of 9/11 that “anti-government” domestic violent extremists now pose the greatest threat to the nation. Vice President Kamala Harris reminded “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd that she has taken an oath to protect the country from “all enemies, foreign and domestic” on numerous occasions. “We know they can exist and we must defend against it,” Harris solemnly pledged…

MAGA Republicans, Biden claimed, “embrace anger,” “thrive on chaos,” and “live—in the shadow of lies,” descriptions loaded with irony coming from an angry inveterate liar who has thrown the nation into chaos. Without evidence, Biden further warned that MAGA Republicans have “fanned the flames of political violence.”

Yet that is precisely what Democrats hope to see as a consequence of fixating on January 6. In just the next few weeks, the January 6 select committee will hold another primetime performance as it threatens to compel testimony from Trump and former Vice President Michael Pence; the seditious conspiracy trial of several Oath Keepers, an alleged militia group involved in the Capitol protest, will begin in Washington, D.C.; and the committee’s final report is set for an October 18 release—all to provide fodder to again show how Trump’s base is populated with “insurrectionists” who tried to “overthrow democracy.”

Now, with the possibility that a third party will scrutinize the Justice Department’s assertions that classified documents were illegally housed at Trump’s residence, House Democrats suddenly announced that the national archivist staffers told Congress the agency isn’t certain it has all required presidential records.

Will this result in another raid of Mar-a-Lago? Or Trump’s summer residence in Bedminster, New Jersey?

But the MOAB in Operation MAGA Fascist will detonate after a D.C. grand jury, working in secret with Biden’s Justice Department, hands down a criminal indictment against Donald Trump. It isn’t a question of if that will happen, but when. Will Democrats drop the bomb before Election Day or after? How long can they drag out the dramatics before their own base turns on them?

Either way, the goal is to stoke a political uprising in much the same way these interests accomplished what they wanted on January 6, 2021. It follows a familiar pattern of name-calling, false accusations, and blatant cover-ups in the reckless pursuit of power.

One upside is that Joe Biden and the ruling class have a lousy track record in winning wars. This may end the same but for now there’s little doubt these bloodthirsty war-mongers are gaining ground.

TikTok influencer and attorney Preston Moore claimed in one of his videos that he was asked $400 to spread false information about President Trump related to the January 6 investigation.

“I was just offered $400 to make an anti-Donald Trump propaganda post related to the January 6 investigation that is completely not true,” Preston revealed on his TikTok Friday. “I should start out this video by saying I’m not a Donald Trump supporter. So that should give a little bit of context to where I’m coming from.”

Preston is an attorney in the firm’s Personal Injury and Products Liability Section. He works on cases involving serious injuries and bad products. He earned his Juris Doctorate from Harvard Law School and is currently working in Beasley Allen’s Atlanta office.

“So, first things first, I get an email from somebody with the Good Info Foundation. I’m going to refer to this person as Jane. Jane sent me a message letting me know she represented the Good Info Foundation and that she was willing to offer a paid collaboration to discuss some topics related to January 6. I said, sure, why not? I’ll learn some more. Jane says the Good Info Foundation will give me $400 to make a post on my page and then share it on Instagram,” Preston narrated.

The Good Information Foundation is headed by Rick Stengel, President Obama’s Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs from 2014 to 2016.

“The January 6th Committee investigation has proven an ongoing criminal conspiracy to overthrow our elections and take away our freedoms,” according to Good Info Foundation.

“MAGA Republicans have known all along that Trump betrayed the American people and they have selfishly and cowardly sided with him over freedom. They want to make this a country where men control women, armed white militants control us all, and a handful of wealthy white politicians control our lives and our futures.”

In order to obtain that $400, Preston should refer to the January 6 incident based on the “Important Notes” set by the Good Info Foundation.

IP addresses in China, Russia, Iran, Cuba among recipients of US COVID-19 small business loan funds

The Small Business Administration disbursed over 41,000 Economic Injury Disaster Loans worth $1.3B to foreign IP addresses, according to IG report.

The Golden Horseshoe is a weekly designation from Just The News intended to highlight egregious examples of wasteful taxpayer spending by the government. The award is named for the horseshoe-shaped toilet seats for military airplanes that cost the Pentagon a whopping $640 each back in the 1980s.

This week's Golden Horseshoe is awarded to the Small Business Administration for disbursing millions of taxpayer dollars in COVID-19 loans intended to keep American businesses afloat to foreign IP addresses in China, Russia and countries designated state sponsors of terror by the State Department, according to a newly released inspector general report.

Inspector General Hannibal "Mike" Ware found the SBA received millions of applications from foreign IP addresses for COVID-19 Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) and while it stopped most of them, tens of thousands of loans were disbursed.

The EIDLs were intended to provide relief to U.S. small businesses that suffered economic hardship as a result of the pandemic.

"Although the agency implemented several layers of controls to prevent or reduce fraud from foreign countries, individuals at foreign IP addresses were able to access the COVID-19 EIDL application system," the OIG reported in a summary.

"The agency processed more than 233,000 of these applications from March 20, 2020 to November 12, 2021, our review period," according to the report. "Of this amount, SBA approved and disbursed 41,638 COVID-19 EIDLs, advances, and grants for $1.3 billion."

Foreign IP addresses in Iran, Syria and Cuba — which are designated state sponsors of terrorism by the State Department — received tens of thousands from the SBA. Iran received nearly $166K, Syria received $23,500, and Cuba got $276K.

Other foreign countries with IP addresses receiving COVID-19 relief loans included:

Pakistan: $47.2 million

Mexico: $157.8 million

China: $1.58 million

Afghanistan: $1.58 million

Russia: $4 million

United Arab Emirates: $10.6 million

India: $143.7 million

Canada: $183.3 million

Saudi Arabia: $2 million

"The numerous applications submitted from foreign IP addresses are an indication of potential fraud that may involve international criminal organizations," the report explains. "OIG has ongoing investigations into international organized crime operations that applied for and stole pandemic relief funds. SBA officials were aware of and concerned about the potential fraud from overseas.

The SBA disbursed the billions in funds despite four layers of controls the agency and its contractor established. The applications from the foreign IP addresses were missed by the first two layers of controls, and "the third and fourth layers of controls were designed to flag any applications missed by the first two layers and ensure SBA loan officers reviewed them."

"The $1.3 billion identified by the OIG that originated from applications submitted from a foreign IP address represents less than .04 percent of the more than $342 billion approved by SBA for COVID EIDL advances and loans," Patrick Kelley, SBA associate administrator of the Office of Capital Access, wrote to Ware.

"It is important to remember that the COVID-19 Pandemic posed a national health and economic crisis of historic proportions equivalent to very few events in our country's history," wrote the administrator. "As a result, the initial focus of SBA's COVID relief programs had to be on providing financial assistance as quickly as possible to respond to the crisis."

Ware made two recommendations to the SBA. Partially concurring with one and agreeing with the other one, the agency indicated it would be examining its controls related to foreign IP addresses and "ensure these controls are more effective in future disaster processing systems."
