North Korea accuses US of manufacturing biological weapons in Ukraine

North Korea accused the United States on Sunday of being behind the manufacturing of biological weapons in Ukraine, backing Russia's claims against Washington's biolabs.

KCNA said that Washington "has set up a number of biological laboratories in dozens of countries and regions, including Ukraine, defying international treaties."

North Korea, furthermore, stressed that Washington is an "evil sponsor of bioterrorism, wreaking havoc on humanity," accusing the US of waging a "bacterial war" in the Korean War of the 1950s.

China, North Korea, and Russia have relayed such accusations in the past Most recently, as US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland admitted to having biological labs in Ukraine after Moscow began its military operation in Ukraine.

The US Department of Defense announced recently that it has provided support, over the past 20 years, to 46 laboratories, health institutions, and diagnostic centers in Ukraine, claiming that those were for "peaceful purposes."

Moscow's indications that Ukraine was being used as a base for Washington's military biological programs were confirmed during Russia's special military operation, said Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev in June.

"During the operation, our suspicions were confirmed that Ukraine became a base for Washington’s military biological programs. Such US projects require particular attention of the civilized world because the Americans were the only ones who didn’t join the protocol on mutual control within the framework of the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention," he stated, TASS reported.

He added that "the accumulation of new facts on criminal breaches of international laws by the US and Ukraine continues on a persistent basis.”

Russia’s Investigative Committee concluded that the US has poured more than $224 million into biological research in Ukraine between 2005 and early 2022. Moscow added that Western pharmaceutical giants, nonprofits, and even the US Democratic Party all took part in the scheme.

Russia targets stockpile of NATO Harpoon missiles in Ukraine

Russian naval forces destroyed a docked Ukrainian warship and a warehouse of US-supplied Harpoon missiles in the port of Odessa on Sunday, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

In a statement, the ministry said: "In the port of Odessa, on the territory of a ship repair plant, high-precision long-range sea-based missiles destroyed a docked Ukrainian warship and a warehouse of anti-ship Harpoon missiles delivered by the United States to Kiev."

The Russian forces also disabled the plant's production facilities for warship repair and modernization, according to the statement.

Last month, the US announced a $1 billion defense package for Ukraine, which included Harpoon missile launchers, howitzers, and ammunition for high mobility artillery rocket systems (HIMARS), according to Politico.

According to the report, the package also included two truck-mounted Harpoon launchers, 18 howitzers, 36,000 artillery rounds, HIMARS ammunition, and optics.

The $1 billion in funding for the equipment comes from $650 million in congressional Ukraine assistance passed by the US Congress last month and $350 million in drawdown authority, the report says-

China Placed Huawei Equipment Atop Cell Towers on Purchased Farm Land Near US Military Bases – Capable of Disrupting and Capturing Signals

As reported earlier by We Love Trump a Chinese company recently paid $2.6 million for 300 acres of farmland in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

The parcel of land’s location near a US Air Force base that houses sensitive drone technology has lawmakers on Capitol Hill worried about potential espionage by Beijing.

The Chinese firm Fufeng Group recently purchased 300 acres of farmland in North Dakota just down the road from a US Air Force base that houses sensitive drone technology near Grand Forks.

The farmland is just a 20-minute drive to the Grand Forks Air Force Base.

The Fufeng Group also purchased a corn mill near Grand Forks. Local citizens are rightly concerned with this new project in their backyard.

And what is more disturbing is the FBI and local police visited a top opponent to the corn mill project and threatened her for speaking out about the local purchases by the Chinese Communist regime.

Now a new report by CNN reveals China has placed Huawei equipment atop cell towers on purchased farm land near US military bases in the Midwest capable of disrupting service and capturing signals.

CNN reported this in a exclusive on Sunday morning.

Since at least 2017, federal officials have investigated Chinese land purchases near critical infrastructure, shut down a high-profile regional consulate believed by the US government to be a hotbed of Chinese spies and stonewalled what they saw as clear efforts to plant listening devices near sensitive military and government facilities.

Among the most alarming things the FBI uncovered pertains to Chinese-made Huawei equipment atop cell towers near US military bases in the rural Midwest. According to multiple sources familiar with the matter, the FBI determined the equipment was capable of capturing and disrupting highly restricted Defense Department communications, including those used by US Strategic Command, which oversees the country’s nuclear weapons.

While broad concerns about Huawei equipment near US military installations have been well known, the existence of this investigation and its findings have never been reported. Its origins stretch back to at least the Obama administration. It was described to CNN by more than a dozen sources, including current and former national security officials, all of whom spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

US lawmakers and military experts are cautioning Americans about the risks posed by DNA testing services, claiming sophisticated weapons could use that information to “target” individuals.

“There are now weapons under development, and developed, that are designed to target specific people,” Rep. Jason Crow, a Democrat who represents parts of Colorado, said Friday, according to the Washington Examiner.

“That’s what this is, where you can actually take someone’s DNA … their medical profile, and you can target a biological weapon that will kill that person or take them off the battlefield or make them inoperable,” he reportedly explained at the Aspen Security Forum.

Crow, a former Army ranger first elected in 2018, anticipates US foes will get their hands on the information provided by companies like 23andMe.

Russia not asking for sanctions removal – Lavrov

Western states should fix the food problems their restrictions have created, foreign minister says

Moscow is not asking for the lifting of sanctions, but urges Western states to fix the problems they have created on the global food market, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Sunday.

“We are not asking for the removal of sanctions – those are problems that deserve to be dealt with separately. We will simply develop our economy now by counting on reliable partners and not on those who have once again proved their total incapacity…

As far as food is concerned, our Western colleagues… should remove the obstacles they themselves have created,” the diplomat said after talks with his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, in Egypt.

He noted that Moscow would not have agreed to Friday’s deal unblocking Ukraine’s grain exports if the issue of freeing up Russian exports had not been resolved. Moscow is now counting on the UN to stick to its promise and assist in removing restrictions holding back Russian grain shipments.

“Those illegitimate restrictions that were imposed… prevented operations with Russian grain, including insurance, including the admission of our ships to foreign ports and foreign ships’ entry into Russian ports,” Sergey Lavrov said.

Israeli PM: Closing Moscow Jewish Agency 'serious'; to affect ties

Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid said on Sunday that Russia's decision to shut down an agency that processes Jewish immigration to "Israel" is a "serious event" that will impact bilateral ties.

Last week, a Moscow court said that the justice ministry had requested the "dissolution" of the Jewish Agency for legal violations that were not specified, setting a hearing on July 28.

Some interpret this revelation as Moscow's warning against Lapid, who has taken a stricter approach to the Ukraine war than the former PM, Naftali Bennett.

On Sunday, Lapid told a meeting of senior officials that "closing the Jewish Agency offices would be a serious event that would affect relations", a government statement said.

He also ordered that a "legal delegation be prepared to depart for Moscow as soon as the Russian approval for talks is received and to make every effort to exhaust the legal dialogue" in addition to diplomatic efforts to ameliorate the tensions.

The Jewish Agency, which was established in 1929, played a key role in the colonization of Palestine and then the creation of the Israeli occupation regime in 1948. It began its work in Russia in 1989, two years before the Soviet Union collapsed. Hundreds of thousands of Jews in Russia migrated to "Israel" after that.

Although closing the Jewish Agency would not stop Russian Jews from moving to "Israel," it would slow down the process.

Dissolving Jewish Agency's work 'political punishment'

On Thursday, Israeli media reported "great tension between Russia and Israel", against the background of reports from Moscow about dissolving the Jewish Agency's operation in Russia, noting that this matter may be related to Prime Minister Yair Lapid's statement about the war in Ukraine.

Where Central Banks Have Issued Digital Currencies

The value of Bitcoins and NFTs may have fallen over the past year, but a different approach to cryptocurrency is growing in popularity around the world while showcasing a totally different face of the blockchain.

As Statista's Katharina Buchholz details below, central bank digital currencies are controlled by governments like traditional currencies are and therefore represent the polar opposite of the idea of decentralized, non-traceable bitcoins. Several small nations and - as of October 2021, Nigeria - have launched central bank digital currencies, and several more populous countries are getting ready to jump aboard a different crypto hype train.

According to the Central Bank Digital Currency Tracker by Atlantic Council, CBDCs were launched even earlier than in Nigeria in Caribbean countries, for example in the Bahamas, Grenada, Dominica and Saint Lucia. The Sand Dollar of the Bahamas was the first central bank digital currency of the world upon its launch in 2019 and cleared the way for a rapid adoption around the region’s small nations.

The Chinese digital Yuan pilot made headlines in April 2019, but the project has not moved on since. Like Nigeria, China has a solid digital and mobile payment infrastructure. Large parts of the two countries' populations leapfrogged card payments and went straight from cash to digital payment options, which became hugely popular - may they be app or text-based. In developing countries, central banks also consider the potential of digital currencies reaching the unbanked.

Another reason for some governments to champion official digital currencies is the collection of data. Ubiquitous digital payments and tight government surveillance have led to a plethora of payment data already available to Chinese administrators. This knowledge on how people spend money will only grow with the implementation of the digital Yuan, even though the country’s central bank has said it will limit traceability and create what it calls “controllable anonymity.”

With the launch of the digital currency, every Yuan in circulation will either exist as physical or as digital currency. Analysts expect the Chinese government to raise the amount of digital currency in the future, thereby lowering the amount of physical currency available in the market. Some even think China plans to make all Yuan digital at one point.

Other countries which are in a CBDC pilot phase include Russia, Thailand, Malaysia, South Korea, Sweden, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. It is unclear, however, which program could see a proper launch next. Concrete plans to launch a CBDC were recorded by the source in Canada, Australia, Brazil and India, among others.

The digital Euro is also in its development phase, with a pilot scheduled for 2023 in participating nations.

Moscow reveals target of strike on key Ukrainian port

A military vessel and a stockpile of Harpoon missiles were hit during Saturday’s attack, the defense ministry has said

The Russian Ministry of Defense has confirmed striking targets in the major Ukrainian port of Odessa on Saturday, revealing that its missiles hit military infrastructure and arms stockpiles.

“In the seaport of Odessa, on the territory of a shipyard, a docked Ukrainian warship and a warehouse of Harpoon anti-ship missiles, supplied by the US to the Kiev regime, have been destroyed by sea-based high-precision long-range missiles,” the ministry said on Sunday.

The attack also crippled a repair facility where vessels of the Ukrainian navy have been fixed, it added.

The strike on the target in Odessa, which is a major trade hub in the southwest of Ukraine, came a day after the signing of a UN-brokered deal to unblock grain exports from Ukrainian ports.

During the conflict that has been underway since February 24, Moscow has insisted that its troops only fire at Ukrainian forces and military infrastructure, not civilian facilities.

According to Kiev officials, four cruise missiles were used in the attack on the port of Odessa, allegedly targeting grain silos located there. Two of the missiles were intercepted and two made it through, but failed to inflict significant damage, they said.

Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky described the strike as “barbarism” and insisted “Russian Kalibr missiles destroyed the very possibility of statements” on the need for dialogue and any agreements with Moscow.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres “unequivocally condemns” the attack on the port of Odessa, his spokesman said. According to Guterres, “the full implementation [of the deal] by Russia, Ukraine and Turkey is imperative” because the products that are covered by it are “desperately needed to address the global food crisis and ease the suffering of millions of people in need around the globe,” he added.

The piece was written by Alex Beggs – a freelance writer and "regular contributor at Bon Appétit, where she reviews the latest Trader Joe's products, writes the magazine's questionable etiquette column, and regularly covers cookbooks," according to journalist database Muck Rack.

The article titled "A Taste for Cannibalism?" argues that cannibalism is having a moment right now because of "some recent stomach-churning books, and on television and film screens."

“Private Company?” — Meet the Ex-CIA Agents Deciding Facebook’s Content Policy==

It is an uncomfortable job for anyone trying to draw the line between “harmful content and protecting freedom of speech. It’s a balance”, Aaron says. In this official Facebook video, Aaron identifies himself as the manager of “the team that writes the rules for Facebook”, determining “what is acceptable and what is not.” Thus, he and his team effectively decide what content the platform’s 2.9 billion active users see and what they don’t see.

Aaron is being interviewed in a bright warehouse-turned-studio. He is wearing a purple sweater and blue jeans. He comes across as a very likable, smiley person. It is not an easy job, of course, but someone has to make those calls. “Transparency is incredibly important in the work that I do,” he says.

Aaron is CIA. Or at least he was until July 2019, when he left his job as a senior analytic manager at the agency to become senior product policy manager for misinformation at Meta, the company that owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. In his 15-year career, Aaron Berman rose to become a highly influential part of the CIA. For years, he prepared and edited the president of the United States’ daily brief, “wr[iting] and overs[eeing] intelligence analysis to enable the President and senior U.S. officials to make decisions on the most critical national security issues,” especially on “the impact of influence operations on social movements, security, and democracy,” his LinkedIn profile reads. None of this is mentioned in the Facebook video.

Berman’s case is far from unique, however. Studying Meta’s reports, as well as employment websites and databases, MintPress has found that Facebook has recruited dozens of individuals from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), as well as many more from other agencies like the FBI and Department of Defense (DoD). These hires are primarily in highly politically sensitive sectors such as trust, security and content moderation, to the point where some might feel it becomes difficult to see where the U.S. national security state ends and Facebook begins.

In previous investigations, this author has detailed how TikTok is flooded with NATO officials, how former FBI agents abound at Twitter, and how Reddit is led by a former war planner for the NATO think tank, the Atlantic Council. But the sheer scale of infiltration of Facebook blows these away. Facebook, in short, is utterly swarming with spooks.

TRUST ME, BRO

In a political sense, trust, safety and misinformation are the most sensitive parts of Meta’s operation. It is here where decisions about what content is allowed, what will be promoted and who or what will be suppressed are made. These decisions affect what news and information billions of people across the world see every day. Therefore, those in charge of the algorithms hold far more power and influence over the public sphere than even editors at the largest news outlets.

There are a number of other ex-CIA agents working in these fields. Deborah Berman, for example, spent 10 years as a data and intelligence analyst at the CIA before recently being brought on as a trust and safety project manager for Meta. Little is known about what she did at the agency, but her pre-agency publications indicate she was a specialist on Syria.

None of this is to say that any of those named are not conscientious, that they are bad people or bad at their job. Vacher, for example, helped design Facebook’s amber alert program, notifying people to missing children in their area. But hiring so many ex-U.S. state officials to run Facebook’s most politically sensitive operations raises troubling questions about the company’s impartiality and its proximity to government power. Meta is so full of national security state agents that at some point, it almost becomes more difficult to find individuals in trust and safety who were not formerly agents of the state.

Despite its efforts to brand itself as a progressive, “woke” organization, the Central Intelligence Agency remains deeply controversial. It has been charged with overthrowing or attempting to overthrow numerous foreign governments (some of them democratically elected), helping prominent Nazis escape punishment after World War Two, funnelling large quantities of drugs and weapons around the world, penetrating domestic media outlets, routinely spreading false information and operating a global network of “black sites” where prisoners are repeatedly tortured. Therefore, critics argue that putting operatives from this organization in control of our news feeds is deeply inappropriate.

One of these critics is Elizabeth Murray, who, in 2010, retired from a 27-year career at the CIA and other U.S. intelligence organizations. “This is insidious,” Murray told MintPress, adding,

I see it as part of the gradual and sinister migration of ambitious young professionals originally trained (with CIA’s virtually unlimited, U.S.-taxpayer funded pot of resources) to surveil and target ‘the bad guys’ during the so-called Global War on Terror of the post-9-11 era.”

MintPress also contacted Facebook/Meta for comment but has not received a response.

There is a limited pool of individuals with the necessary skills and experience in these new tech and cybersecurity fields, and many of them come from government institutions. Casinos, after all, regularly hire card sharks to protect themselves. But there is little evidence that this is a poacher-turned-gamekeeper scenario; Facebook is certainly not hiring whistleblowers. The problem is not that these individuals are incompetant. The problem is that having so many former CIA employees running the world’s most important information and news platform is only one small step removed from the agency itself deciding what you see and what we do not see online – and all with essentially no public oversight.

In this sense, this arrangement constitutes the best of both worlds for Washington. They can exert significant influence over global news and information flows but maintain some veneer of plausible deniability. The U.S. government does not need to directly tell Facebook what policies to enact. This is because the people in decision-making positions are inordinately those who rose through the ranks of the national security state beforehand, meaning their outlooks match those of Washington’s. And if Facebook does not play ball, quiet threats about regulation or breaking up the company’s enormous monopoly can also achieve the desired outcomes.

Again, this article is not claiming that any of the named individuals are nefarious actors, or even that they are anything but model employees. This is a structural problem. Put another way, if Facebook were hiring dozens of managers from Russian intelligence agencies like the FSB or GRU, everybody would recognize the inherent dangers. It should be little different when it hires individuals from the CIA, an organization responsible for some of the worst crimes of the modern era.

Israeli settler group raises millions for illegal West Bank outposts

Thousands of illegal Israeli settlers from Nachala, an infamous setter group, and Israeli occupation legislators established on Wednesday seven illegal outposts in the occupied West Bank. The settlement outposts were funded via a crowdfunding campaign that amassed millions of dollars with the sole purpose of expanding illegal Israeli settlements.

The very next day, the Israeli occupation forces evacuated the outposts, detaining and later releasing 11 settlers. Despite the IOF evicting the settlements, the settler group is still planning on expanding the Israeli settlement, pledging to establish new outposts within days.

Nachala is the group behind the notorious Evyatar settlement set up last year on Mount Sabih, which led to many protests from Palestinians against the Israeli occupation's expansion policies, and later turned into confrontations between Palestinians and illegal settlers as well as the Israeli occupation's forces.

Israeli law allows for settlements, but they are deemed illegal under international law. Despite allowing for official settlements to be built on stolen Palestinian land, Israeli law does not permit settlement outposts, which are makeshift settlements built by settlers themselves. However, "Tel Aviv" gave the green light to several outposts.

Though illegal, Nachala is constantly advertising its plans to establish outposts very explicitly, and it receives funding through its financial arm, registered NGO Guela Titnu La'aretz (the land shall be redeemed). Other means include its public benefit company, The National Fund for the Building of the Land of Israel, and donations.

The largest donation for the propping up of more settlements on occupied Palestinian land came for $290,000 from an anonymous donor, while significant sums also came from organizations abroad and within occupied Palestine.

Geula Titnu La'aretz didn't file annual reports with the Israeli registrar in the last two years, but the latest financial data shows it received as much as $140,000 in 2019. The National Fund for the Building of the Land of Israel received as much as $200,000 in 2020 - its recent filing said.

Just like many Israeli organizations, Nachala has a branch in the United States, Friends of Nachala Israel, though the latter has no website nor is registered with the Internal Revenue Services; therefore, information on its directors and funding is unknown.

The Nachala movement, despite the illegality of its plans, is backed by Israeli society and is endorsed by various politicians and thousands upon thousands of settlers. Even Israeli occupation Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked supports the organization, as well as various Knesset members.

Activists have repeatedly accused the Israeli occupation regime of backing Nachala, namely the municipalities of settlements, with Yesh Din executive director Ziv Stahl sending a letter to the US ambassador to the Israeli occupation saying: "This plan is being promoted by more than 20 Israeli right-wing movements and bodies led by the Nachala Settlement Movement, with active involvement and support from settlements and regional and local municipalities."

Regional settlement councils and settlement municipalities have provided the organization with infrastructure, namely road access, electricity, and water, as well as other necessities such as building contractors and various equipment, in a bid to help it commit its acts that are illegal even in Israeli laws.

"Tel Aviv" does not oppose all settlements, as its latest round of approving the expansion of illegal settlements came in mid-May, which saw it advancing plans for 4,427 illegal settlement units for settlers in the occupied West Bank.

The expansion of settlements has been taking place in the West Bank since 1967, despite occupied Palestine and the majority of the world decrying the illegitimate process.

Settlement expansion surged under former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and during Trump's administration, and former PM Naftali Bennett is the former head of a settlement lobby himself. Bennett's government claimed it had different plans than Netanyahu's but follows similar policies.

About half a million Israeli settlers live in the occupied Palestinian territories, with many more even wanting to move there, Elhayani added, not taking into consideration the rights and needs of the Palestinians as they uproot them from their lands.

Ahead of the decision to expand illegal settlements, the Israeli occupation forces demolished at least 18 structures in the occupied West Bank, including 12 residential buildings, following a Supreme Court decision that would force around 1,000 Palestinians out of an area the Israelis had designated a firing zone.

Gen. Mark Milley: China Becoming ‘More Aggressive’ in Pacific

The top U.S. general asserted Sunday that the Chinese regime’s military has become more aggressive and dangerous over the past five years.

Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told reporters that the United States and its allies have conducted more and more intercepts of Chinese aircraft and ships in the Pacific. The number of unsafe encounters has also increased significantly, he said.

“The message is the Chinese military, in the air and at sea, have become significantly more and noticeably more aggressive in this particular region,” Milley, who recently asked his staff to compile details about interactions between China and the United States and others in the region, said during a trip to Indonesia on Sunday.

The Chinese military has become “noticeably more aggressive in this particular region,” he also told the Financial Times. Milley spoke with The Associated Press and the Financial Times aboard his aircraft as he was flying to visit the Indo–Pacific over the weekend.

The top general, who has faced congressional blowback for holding two phone calls with a top Chinese general during the waning months of the Trump administration, did not provide specific figures about the incidents involving Chinese jets or ships.

But in one example, a Chinese J-6 fighter jet in May flew close to an Australian P-8 Poseidon spy plane and released chaff—or pieces of ammunition and other debris—that was sucked into the Australian plane’s engines, Australian officials said.

Canadian Convoys Hit the Road in Solidarity With Dutch Farmers

Multiple convoy protests got under way across Canada on July 23 in solidarity with farmers in the Netherlands and several other European countries who have been protesting against climate change policies over the past few months, saying the measures are threatening their livelihoods.

The decentralized protests were held by locals simultaneously across the country. In all, at least 55 convoys rolled out to support the Dutch farmers in eight provinces: Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec, and Saskatchewan.

Kyle Norbury, an electrician from Edmonton who says he has been in Ottawa for five months protesting COVID-19 mandates, said he thought it’s important for him and others to support the Dutch farmers.

“We are here as proud patriot Canadians supporting the Dutch farmers in their protests over in the Netherlands,” Norbury told The Epoch Times.

“It’s important that Canadians make a stance for freedoms before they’re gone. We all see the government overreach happening all throughout the world right now, and it’s important the everyone stands united before it’s too late. Our freedoms are slowly disappearing as we speak.”

In the GTA, convoys of vehicles and supporters converged in Vaughan around noon to form a larger convoy. The convoys came from dozens of regions including London, Toronto, Niagara, and Kingston, with some “slow-rolling” to the rendezvous point.
