The president and the prince's baleful involvement with Epstein is down to one woman — Ghislaine Maxwell. The subsequent damage to their reputations largely rests on the word of another — Roberts. But what is undisputed is that both men criss-crossed the world on Epstein's jets, receiving hospitality from the financier's young female staff.

Taliban Terrorist Leaders Touch Down in Oslo to Woo Humanitarian Donors

Representatives of Afghanistan’s unelected Taliban government continued talks in Norway on Monday trying to build support for their rule while gaining access to billions in funds they say are needed to help ward off starvation.

The terrorist negotiators arrived by private jet from Kabul over the weekend ahead of the talks.

Since the Taliban seized control of Afghanistan in August 2021, the country’s prosperity and quality of life has plummeted with the United Nations reporting some 23 million Afghans are facing hunger (55 percent of their population) and “10 million children across Afghanistan urgently need humanitarian assistance to survive”, France 24 reports.

Afghanistan’s humanitarian crisis has been caused by other nations withdrawing their international aid due to concerns it would finance the Taliban’s atrocities, rather than reach the people most in need.

This has been catastrophic for Afghanistan as “80 percent” of their public spending budget – for services like schools or public hospitals – came from foreign aid. It has also been reported that government employees have not had their salaries paid, and the country is on the verge of collapse.

Talks began between the Taliban delegation and European nations on Sunday the 23rd of January and will continue for three days, and are being held at the Soria Moria Hotel, located just outside of Oslo.

The Taliban is expected to meet diplomats from the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Norway, Italy and the European Union, and the talks will take place behind closed doors.

U.S. Special Representative Thomas West emphasised on social media how much he is looking forward to the exchange of ideas, saying: “As we seek to address humanitarian crisis together with allies, partners, and relief orgs, we will continue clear-eyed diplomacy with the Taliban regarding our concerns and our abiding interest in a stable, rights-respecting and inclusive Afghanistan.”

A gunman shot and killed a journalist in Tijuana Sunday. The murder is the third of its kind in Mexico for 2022 and the second in Tijuana over a 7-day period.

The murder took place on Sunday night when a gunman shot and killed Lourdes Maldonado inside her vehicle, the Baja California Attorney General’s Office revealed.

FOIA Request Shows Only 17,371 Deaths In England & Wales Can Be Solely Attributed to COVID

The Facts:

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request has revealed that 17,371 people in England and Wales died solely from COVID.

The data represents numbers recorded from the beginning of 2020 up until the end of September 2021.

These people had no other causes listed on their death certificates.

Reflect On:

Why are journalists not discussing what this could mean? The majority of people who have died with COVID have had multiple other causes listed on their death certificates. Why haven't we taken a more focused protection plan to protect the vulnerable?

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request released at the end of 2021 reveals the total number of people who died of COVID without any pre-existing conditions in England and Wales. That number is 17,371 people from the beginning of 2020 up until the end of September 2021.

Breaking it down by each year, in 2020 there were 9,400 people that died of COVID who otherwise had no pre-existing conditions. In 2021 there were 7,971 people that died of COVID who otherwise had no pre-existing conditions. It’s important to mention that these numbers do not include the remainder of the year from October to December of 2021.

This means that in the last quarter of 2021, the amount of deaths that would need to take place to match 2020 would be around 1,429. Which is not far off from the 1,142 deaths that occurred from July to September in 2021 in the third quarter of the year.

The average age of those who died solely from COVID was 82.5 years of age, while the national average life expectancy is 79 years old for men, and 82.9 years of age for women. This means that life expectancy for men is actually lower than the average age of those who died from COVID without other underlying causes.

It is important to note that there was a drop in life expectancy for men of around 7 weeks throughout the pandemic. This being the first drop since the early 1980. Surprisingly, the life expectancy for women actually increased in the UK by half a week.

As a reference, during the Spanish flu the life expectancy dropped by around five years in the United Kingdom. With some reports out of the United States showing a drop in life expectancy up to 12 years for both men and women in 1918.

This information should not downplay the many deaths of those with pre-existing illnesses, disease and overall health problems that died with COVID. The elderly and vulnerable matter and protection should be focused on them as outlined in The Great Barrington Declaration.

The U.S. Air Force may soon bring 170 members of Qatar’s air force to live on the Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho. They would be coming to learn to fly the newest model of the F-15 fighter jet specially modified for the Persian Gulf state.

The Qatar trainees may be in for a culture shock should they find themselves in the city of Mountain Home. More than 90% of Qataris live in the capital of Doha, which is full of skyscrapers, luxury hotels and attractions, museums and world-class food.

The country is also incredibly flat and dry, with the majority of its land being desert. Qatar is one of just four areas in the world without a single forest. Not to mention the differing temperatures between Qatar and Idaho: Qatar averages 107 degrees in July and rarely gets below 50 degrees even in winter.

Surrounded on three sides by the Arabian Gulf, Qatar has skyrocketed to power in recent decades through its discovery of oil and natural gas. Holding 13% of the world’s oil reserve, it has become the richest country per capita in the world. Qatar’s 2.9 million residents are ruled by an absolute monarchy and live under a constitution based on Shariah law.

Just how the Qataris would fare in the quiet town with a population of 14,000 remains to be seen. But it wouldn’t be the first time the Mountain Home base trained foreign military aviators. Since 2009, Singapore military members have lived and trained there as part of an agreement with the United States.

“With Singapore, their ability to integrate with our local community has been phenomenal,” Lt. Col. Peter Yule, director of the Mountain Home Base Wing Integration Office, told the Idaho Statesman in a phone interview. “I would expect the same thing out of the Qatar program.”

The Qatar project dates to 2017 when the United States inked a $12 billion deal that gave Qatar “36 aircraft, their associated weapons systems, U.S.-based training, maintenance support equipment and logistics support,” according to The Air Force Times.

“The sale as a whole is obviously a big strategic advantage,” Yule said. “(It will) continue to increase capability of partner nations within the Middle East, a region of huge influence for the United States. So the more we can increase capability with our appropriations there, the less reliant we have to be on a large footprint by the United States military.”

Head of Special Operations Command Tests Positive for COVID-19

The commander of Special Operations Command, Gen. Richard Clarke, has tested positive for COVID-19, his command announced Monday.

Clarke, who oversees the special operations forces of all the military branches, tested positive Sunday and is working remotely and isolating himself from others, Col. Curt Kellogg, a spokesman for the command, said the statement.

“He had very mild symptoms and is able to fully perform all his duties remotely,” Kellogg said.

Clarke’s positive result makes him the latest top-ranking military official to get COVID-19 in recent months as senior Pentagon leadership has seen a deluge of cases.

Last week, the military announced that both Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Mark Milley and the Marine Corps commandant, Gen. David Berger, had tested positive for the disease. Early in January, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced he tested positive for COVID-19 and was experiencing mild symptoms while quarantining at home. Early in December, the top general in charge of the National Guard, Gen. Dan Hokanson, also tested positive for the virus.

In the case of Clarke, who is 61, the SOCOM statement noted that he has not “been in the physical presence of senior DoD civilian leadership or members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff this month.”

The Department of Defense said last week that there are currently no plans to change the restrictions on meetings and access at the Pentagon. Spokeswoman Sue Gough noted last week that senior civilian leaders recently published memos that “strongly encouraged continued maximum telework during the spread of the Omicron and Delta variants in the greater Washington, D.C metropolitan area.”

Since Friday the small European country of Andorra has been suffering internet outages due to a series of DDoS attacks that have been crippling the nation’s only internet service provider.

The attacks seem to have been linked to an ongoing Twitch Rivals event, where 150 streamers from Spain, Latin America, and Andorra have been competing for $100,000 ina multi-day ‘Squid Game’-themed ‘Minecraft’ tournament. With over a million viewers, the event has become one of the most successful Twitch Rivals tournaments in history, but it seems not everyone got a fair chance.

The first day of the tournament reportedly saw no problems, but on day two all Andorran players, who constituted a significant portion of the 150 competitors, started experiencing disconnects and most ended up getting disqualified from the tournament.

But it wasn’t just the streamers. The entire country has been experiencing connectivity problems. On Friday Andorra Telecom, the only ISP in the country, took to Twitter to announce it was experiencing difficulties due to a denial of service attack.

By all accounts the provider managed to fix the issue at the time, but for many Andorran players it was already too late.

The next day the few Andorran participants that remained were wiped out due to yet another DDoS attack, as Andorra Telecom issued another alert about internet outages. Many now believe that these attacks have been specifically aimed against the tournament participants in hopes of robbing them of a chance to win the coveted $100,000 prize.

And despite all Andorran streamers having dropped out of the tournament at this point, the DDoS attacks against Andorra Telecom seem to continue, as the provider has been issuing the same alert about internet outages every day since Friday.

Marking 30 years of ties, Israel and China convene joint committee on innovation

Fifth meeting of senior governmental forum led by Foreign Minister Lapid; three-year plan signed during virtual talks with Beijing’s vice president

The China-Israel Joint Committee on Innovation Cooperation met virtually on Monday, led by Foreign Minister Yair Lapid and China’s Vice President Wang Qishan.

The countries signed a three-year plan to regulate cooperation and government-to-government dialogue through 2024.

They also signed a series of bilateral agreements, including memoranda of understanding (MOUs) between the two science ministries, between the culture ministries, and an MOU on carbon neutrality. China and Israel also signed an MOU on emergency medicine cooperation, and an MOU on intellectual property between Israel’s Justice Ministry and China’s Intellectual Property Ministry.

The Chinese and Israeli environmental protection ministries concluded a three-year cooperation agreement as well. China, the world’s worst polluter, is responsible for almost one-third of global CO2 emissions, more than the US, India and Russia combined.

The Joint Committee was established in 2014 as a comprehensive bilateral dialogue framework for senior government officials. Monday’s meeting was the fifth time the committee has convened, and the first since 2018.

The meeting is part of a series of events marking 30 years of diplomatic relations between Israel and China.

“The Chinese, like Israelis, aren’t afraid of new ideas,” said Lapid at the meeting’s outset. “There’s a built-in curiosity in the character of our two peoples. Give us a new and exciting idea, and we’ll gather around it, enthusiastically discuss it, and immediately examine its origin and how it can be improved.”

A number of Israeli government ministries and offices participated in the meeting, including Science, Technology and Space Minister Orit Farkash-Hacohen and senior officials from the health, environmental protection, culture, agriculture and economy ministries, as well as the Innovation Authority and Patent Office.

Public Security Minister Barlev calls current legislation ‘old’; Knesset committee opens discussion on claims that police used Pegasus spyware to track civilians without oversight

Public Security Minister Omer Barlev instructed his ministry on Monday to reevaluate legal oversight of police wiretapping and search methods, amid fallout from explosive reports that police used the NSO Group’s powerful Pegasus software to obtain unfettered access to the phones of Israel civilians, including those not suspected of crimes.

A wide range of parliamentary and civil society voices have called for an examination of the claims and for tighter oversight over police usage of phone-monitoring technology.

The Public Security Ministry oversees the police.

“I instructed the legal entities in the Public Security Ministry and my bureau staff to conduct an examination of the existing arrangements, including the Wiretapping Law and the search law,” Barlev said. “This is to examine the need to make adjustments, in order to be exacting and clarify the limits of what is allowed and prohibited in the use of advanced technological means for enforcement purposes. If necessary, my ministry will formulate a government bill, in coordination with the Justice Ministry.”

Barlev explained his directive by calling the existing laws outdated and not fit to address today’s technological capabilities.

“The existing legal arrangements regarding wiretapping and search operations as part of police enforcement operations are old,” said Barlev. “There is justification for examining whether to update the arrangements in light of the technological developments we have witnessed in recent years and for the adaptation of legislation to the 21st century.”

The police have repeatedly claimed that they have only used surveillance technology within the bounds of proper oversight and court orders, while not denying using NSO’s spyware, which was not known before the reports.

Companies Linked to Putin’s Pipeline Contributed to Schumer Campaign

Senate majority leader blocked sanctions on the Kremlin-backed project

Affiliates of two European companies that fund Russia's Nord Stream 2 pipeline contributed to the campaign of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.), who Republicans say has blocked sanctions on the Kremlin-backed project.

ENGIE North America and BASF Corporation each gave $2,500 to Schumer in September through their corporate political action committees, according to newly disclosed Federal Election Commission records. ENGIE North America's parent company and a BASF subsidiary are part of a consortium of five companies that finance Nord Stream 2, which will transport natural gas from Russia to Germany. While President Joe Biden has called the pipeline a geopolitical threat to Europe that helps Russian president Vladimir Putin, last year he waived sanctions on the project.

Republicans have pushed for legislation to enforce sanctions only to be met with resistance from Senate Democrats and the White House. Schumer for months blocked Republican requests to vote on a sanctions bill. He approved a vote on sanctions legislation proposed by Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Texas) earlier this month in exchange for Cruz lifting holds on several State Department nominees. The bill received bipartisan support by a 55-44 vote, but Senate Democrats used filibuster rules to block its passage. Democrats say they want to use sanctions against the pipeline as a last resort should Russia invade Ukraine.

The contributions to Schumer came amid an aggressive lobbying effort in Washington over sanctions on the 764-mile pipeline. The five European companies that back Nord Stream 2—Wintershall, ENGIE, Uniper, Shell, and OMV—have paid millions of dollars to lobbying firms to block sanctions.

Nord Stream 2 AG, the Swiss company that is building the pipeline, lobbies Congress through Democratic donor Vincent Roberti. Roberti gave maximum donations of $5,800 to Schumer and other Senate Democrats last year, Axios reported. Thomas McLarty, the founder of McLarty Inbound, a firm that lobbies for the five European companies, in April gave $2,500 to Schumer.

ENGIE North America, a subsidiary of the French firm ENGIE, contributed to Schumer's campaign on Sept. 9. BASF, the parent company of Wintershall, donated to Schumer on Sept. 22. ENGIE also contributed to Schumer's campaign in 2020, while BASF gave to the Senate leader in 2016, according to FEC records. Each member of the European consortium loaned 1 billion euros to Nord Stream 2 AG in 2017. Nord Stream 2 AG is controlled by Russian state oil company Gazprom. Nord Stream 2 AG's chief executive officer, Matthias Warnig, is a Putin ally and former officer of the East German secret police.

The pipeline has caused a rift in Europe. Germany supports the project because it will provide the country with relatively cheap natural gas. But Eastern European countries, such as Ukraine and Poland, oppose the pipeline because it will give more leverage to Russia and because they will lose substantial amounts of revenue from energy transfer fees.

Democrats' position on the pipeline has puzzled Ukraine and other nations that oppose the project. Biden has called the pipeline a "bad deal" for Europe and said Putin will use it to gain political influence. But Biden waived sanctions in May, saying that he wanted to avoid a confrontation with Germany. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky blasted Biden after waiving the sanctions, saying Biden handed "a weapon" to Putin.

Schumer's office did not respond to requests for comment from the Washington Free Beacon. ENGIE North America did not respond to requests for comment.

A spokesman for BASF said that its American subsidiary does not lobby Congress on Nord Stream 2 and that Wintershall has no presence in the United States.

"Any implied connection between our Employee PAC contributions and Nord Stream 2 is incorrect," the spokesman said.

Donald Trump's "Truth Social" will be using a Silicon Valley AI system used by Reddit and others to automatically censor "hate speech" before it is posted, according to a report from Fox Business.

When TRUTH Social launches later this quarter, the Trump Media & Technology Group social media platform will already have stringent content moderation practices in place to ensure it is a "family-friendly" online community, company CEO Devin Nunes told Fox Business.

[…] Fox Business has learned that TMTG is partnering with Hive—a San Francisco-based Series D start-up that provides automated solutions through cloud-based artificial intelligence for understanding images, videos, and text content. Hive’s technology provides automated content moderation across video, image, text and audio.

"We want to be very family-friendly, we want this to be a very safe place, and we are focused on making sure any illegal content is not on the site," Nunes said in an exclusive interview with Fox Business.

"Hive has a great track record in this, and they have been good to work with," Nunes continued. "They are very helpful for our team and because of their experience, I think they're helping to craft the right spot for us."

He added: "We want to be the most family-friendly site."

Hive co-founder and CEO Kevin Guo told Fox Business that his company's AI model will be used for TRUTH Social to offer content moderation for posts to ensure sexually-explicit content, and posts that include violence, bullying, hate speech, and spam never make it to the platform.

"TMTG really has been proactive," Guo told Fox Business. "For them, moderation has always been core. They have been very thoughtful about this."

Facebook Trumpets Massive New Supercomputer

Facebook's parent company Meta announced on Monday it was launching one of the world's most powerful supercomputers to boost its capacity to process data, despite persistent disputes over privacy and disinformation.

The US tech giant said the array of machines could process images and video up to 20 times faster than their current systems.

The supercomputer, built from thousands of processors, will be used to "seamlessly analyse text, images, and video together; develop new augmented reality tools; and much more", the firm said in blog post written by two of its Artificial Intelligence (AI) researchers.

They envisage developing AI tools that will, among other things, allow people speaking in several different languages to understand each other in real-time.

Meta said the machine, known as AI Research SuperCluster (RSC), was already in the top five fastest supercomputers and would become the fastest AI machine in the world when fully built in the next few months.

Platforms like Facebook and Google have long been criticised for the way they process and utilise the data they take from their users.

The two firms currently face legal cases across the European Union that allege data transfers from the bloc to the United States are illegal.

And the AI algorithms that funnel Facebook users towards appealing posts have been criticised for helping to fuel disinformation and hate speech.
