A country is a set of people who hold a set of ideas on a piece of land. A flag is just a representation of all that.
What does the American flag represent exactly? It basically means anyone can believe anything as long as they can jump the border and be here. When the Left is ready to put the American flag once and for all it might represent American Patriotism again, but they haven't done that yet.
