Unknown to most passersby, there’s a 12-foot-tall replica of the Washington Monument under a manhole near the actual monument.

Officially known as “Bench Mark A,” this underground oddity is actually a Geodetic Control Point that’s used by surveyors. It’s part of the network of a million control points across the country that helps the National Geodetic Survey (NGS) synchronize all of the government’s maps.

According to NGS modernization manager Dru Smith, “Geodetic control points provide starting points for any map or measurement. It has to be more accurate than any measurement you do on top of it, so we pick things that tend to be extremely stable.”

Usually that means metal caps or rods that are driven down into the ground, but this quirky control point mirrors the form of its next-door neighbor.

“All the surveys we’ve done, going back to the early 1900s, have used it,” says Smith. Most recently, it was used in the aftermath of the 2011 Washington earthquake. Measurements over the past century have shown that the marshy soil below Washington Monument has risen 6.2 centimeters, at an average rate of 0.5 millimeters per year.

The mini monument was placed in the 1880s as a part of a trans-continental leveling program. The ground level here was much lower at that time, with large parts of the Washington Monument foundation still visible above ground (see fourth image above). The mini monument was above ground for a time, before being encased in a brick chimney and buried. Outside of surveying circles, it’s been largely forgotten.

Five people were injured in the early morning attack on the city of Kursk, according to Roman Starovoyt

An unmanned aircraft has hit the roof of the central railway station in the Russian city of Kursk, shattering several windows and causing a small fire, the regional governor said on Sunday morning.

“A Ukrainian drone attack in Kursk. According to preliminary information, it crashed into the roof of the railway station, after which a fire broke out. Five people received minor injuries from glass fragments,” Roman Starovoyt wrote at 3:54am local time.

In a later post, Starovoyt said the explosion damaged the station roof, the facade, and one of the platforms. The blast wave also damaged the waiting room and an underpass, he added.

Out of five people injured in the drone strike, three were taken to hospital and discharged soon afterwards, while two others refused medical assistance, the governor wrote.

According to Starovoyt, there were some 50 people at the station when the drone struck. They were swiftly evacuated from the area.

Two platforms are currently operating at the station, and repairs on one are underway, he added.

According to several unverified videos shared by Telegram news channels, the explosion apparently caused minor damage to the roof and facade of the building. Eyewitnesses also reportedly heard the sounds of a drone engine in the area ahead of the blast.

Around the time of the attack, two of Moscow's international airports, Vnukovo and Domodedovo, briefly suspended all flights. Mayor Sergey Sobyanin later said that the Russian military successfully thwarted an attempted drone attack from the southern direction.

Because conservatorship laws vary between states, it's difficult to determine how many people live in conservatorships across the country, ACLU attorney Zoe Brennan-Krohn told CBS News in 2021 when speaking about Spears' case. She added that they are often granted when an individual encounters difficulties or age-related disabilities.

Conservatorship vs. adoption

In a conservatorship, the conservator is legally allowed to make decisions on another person's behalf without technically making them a family member. The person with a disability or other challenge only needs to sign the proper legal documents to grant the conservatorship, as Oher did in August 2004.

Under adoption laws, an adoptee legally becomes a permanent member of the applicant's family.

Adoption laws vary by state, with a few states placing age limits on adoption. Tennessee, the home state of Oher and the Tuohys, is among the states that allow adults to adopt someone who is over 18, according to law firm Anderson Hunter.

Conservatorship meaning

Having a conservatorship also plays a role in the person's finances. A conservator or co-conservators typically have authority over the finances and personal affairs of the person they're overseeing.

Oher claims in his petition that the Tuohy family generated millions of dollars off the book "The Blind Side" by best-selling author Michael Lewis and its film adaptation starring Sandra Bullock and Tim McGraw, both of which carried Oher's name and likeness. Oher claims that he himself has received nothing off of the book or Oscar-nominated movie. The Tuohys will continue to profit from his name if the conservatorship isn't ended, he argues.

Aside from Britney Spears, actor Amanda Bynes also recently successfully fought to end her conservatorship, giving her full control of her medical, financial and personal decisions.

If you have followed the background, the purpose of Ron DeSantis meeting privately today with Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, is very clear. Georgia is the fulcrum state of the 2024 Sea Island “Roadmap for Ron.”

(Via Politico) Ron DeSantis met privately with Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp on Friday, the latest in his effort to fortify relationships with three Republican governors alienated by Donald Trump.

The meeting, at a hotel in Buckhead, Georgia, preceded DeSantis’ appearance at a gathering of presidential candidates hosted by conservative talk radio host Erick Erickson. The two talked for about 30 minutes and did not discuss an endorsement, according to two people familiar with the meeting.

[…] Kemp represents one of the most critical general election swing states in the country, and the meeting Friday comes on the heels of Trump’s indictment in the state.

Earlier this week, Kemp ripped into Trump’s false claims about voter fraud there, writing, “For nearly three years now, anyone with evidence of fraud has failed to come forward — under oath — and prove anything in a court of law. Our elections in Georgia are secure, accessible, and fair and will continue to be as long as I am governor. The future of our country is at stake in 2024 and that must be our focus.”

DeSantis, the Florida governor, is still running second to Trump in national Republican primary polls, though he has fallen further behind.

In their meeting Friday, DeSantis and Kemp discussed DeSantis’ recent appearance at the Iowa State Fair and the first primary debate next week, according to the two people familiar with the conversation. They also talked about what it’s like to campaign with family members on the road and about college football.

It’s the second time in recent months that DeSantis has met with Kemp. He also huddled with the governor at the Georgia statehouse earlier this year. (more)

Georgia examples include the Sea Island reference points, the Mike Pence rally to support Kemp, George W Bush rallying support for Kemp, the intentional non requests for Trump ’22 campaigning, True the Vote’s Catherine Englebrecht documenting the systemic vote system corruption by Georgia Republican Governor Brian Kemp and his entire administration, or the MSM push to use Kemp as an example of a Trump slayer.

You guys already know the background of Georgia grassroots activists booing Kemp at the state convention, and the recent issue of Brian Kemp adviser Cody Hall joining team DeSantis while remaining a Kemp advisor.

The Sea Island group of billionaires, influence agents, GOPe politicians, multinationals, Wall Street hedge funds and corporate Republicans are manipulating the events in Georgia to support the roadmap that contains their nominee, Ron DeSantis.

Control is the key in these totalitarian illusions of democracy. If Fani Willis is targeting the group who organize against the interests of Brian Kemp and the Republican club leadership, she is doing them a favor. Brian Kemp and his Republican Party crew support corrupt District Attorney Fani Willis, just like former Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell supported U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder in the targeting of the Tea Party (2011, 2012). The alignments are exactly identical.

Again, for reference, this is not a short-term issue. This is a long-term construct on behalf of the right-wing of the UniParty and the Bush clan apparatus to remove the threat of MAGA politics from their controlled party.

DeSantis is a tool, a willing vessel for these interests. The benefit DeSantis provides is not contained in his winning the 2024 primary, but rather in stopping Donald Trump from winning it.

In 2010, the Tea Party caught the corporate Republican Party off guard; they reassembled their machinery, and then attacked and removed the Tea Party influence in 2012. In 2016, the counterinsurgent Tea Party base found a way to fight back with Donald Trump; we reassembled and added more support from the middle and working class around the America First agenda and defeated Wall Street Republicans again. However, every moment thereafter has been this battle between the party control operatives and the MAGA insurgents.

That battle has continued, and Georgia is the latest visible evidence of the war raging in the background.

We told you this was going to be very ugly, and it is unfolding exactly as we would expect.

It will get worse, much worse. Cowboy up!

A mother says she was shocked to learn a symbol on a children's toy had a double meaning. Now the company that sold the product says they are pulling it.

The toy was bought at the Monster Jam show in Syracuse over the weekend. The same show and toy truck were in Rochester in January.

Experts say a heart symbol on the monster truck toy contains a secret symbol for pedophiles.

If you looked at the symbol of one heart inside another, we probably wouldn't think much of it. But the experts we talked to say it is a known symbol used by pedophiles so they can secretly communicate with each other. What would they think if they saw that symbol on a toy in the hands of a child?

The company that runs Monster Jam says they had no idea and used the word "shocked" to describe how they felt. Because of this story, Feld Entertainment is pulling this toy from their vendors.

Nicole O'Kelly from Greece and her family were at the Monster Jam show at the Carrier Dome on Saturday.

"It was fun - there was a lot of people, a lot of excitement," says O'Kelly.

At the show, her son bought a pink, plush monster truck for his two-year-old sister.

"I actually thought it was cute because it was pink," says O'Kelly. "I was like 'Oh, they actually have a pink toy for a girl, that's really cool.'"

The concern started after her older daughter said she had seen the double heart symbol on the toy's roof before. It was from her favorite show - Law and Order SVU.

We tracked down the episode on Tuesday. A child is sent the symbol from her abuser. The show's script explains what it means: "Hearts within hearts, girl lovers."

That's a secret code for pedophiles.

"Immediately, I went into momma bear mode," says O'Kelly. "I was angry. I wanted to call and text everybody. I wanted answers."

We helped O’Kelly get those answers by talking to the Bivona Child Advocacy Center.

"When I see that heart inside the heart, it's pedophile," says Anna Potter, Bivona Child Advocacy Center.

"It's that underground culture that they use to communicate," adds Potter.

Potter says parents have no idea.

"They're giving it to their daughter thinking it's a toy and then to someone else it could mean criminal behavior," says Potter.

"I am absolutely sick," says O'Kelly. "I bought this for my two-year-old little girl."

We sent pictures of the toy truck to the company that runs Monster Jam and made the toy. On the phone, Feld Entertainment's spokesman told News10NBC they're as "shocked as anybody."

He said, "We did not realize the symbol was linked to that behavior. We want people to know they're getting safe and appropriate gifts for the entire family."

When we asked "What are you going to do about it?" Feld Entertainment said they're pulling the pink trucks.

As for the person that designed the toy, Feld told us he doesn't work there anymore. They are looking at every product he designed.

The latest reporting from inside CNN, the basement-rated fake news outlet that will almost certainly be sold for parts within the next few years, suggests that the outlet’s leadership is not pleased with Kaitlan Collins, nor with the ratings of The Source.

CNN should’ve listened to me. After all, my advice is as insightful as it is free. Nurse Ratched was never going to succeed as an anchor, much less a prime-time anchor, much less the 9:00 p.m. anchor. Collins has all the appeal of a first wife, so why put her directly against MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow on Monday nights and Alex Wagner Tuesday through Friday nights?

Collins is a left-wing extremist with zero charm. Maddow and Wagner are equally left-wing but more pleasant to spend time with.

So what did Collins have to offer?

Only downside, baby. And when you’re talking about CNNLOL, the downside is all that’s for sale anymore.

It is currently unclear what Collins’ fate will be now that Licht is gone from the network, but CNN’s new leadership is reportedly unhappy with Collins and The Source’s ratings.

Puck reported that The Source “has shown little substantive growth” since its inception in early June and that Collins “draws roughly a third of the audience that Rachel Maddow and Alex Wagner average on MSNBC.”

Also shocking was the outlet’s report that Collins only draws a “quarter of the audience Sean Hannity draws on Fox News.”

“Other CNN insiders reportedly questioned how long Collins can remain in the 9 p.m. timeslot,” continues the report.

Here’s the worst of it: “Kaitlin Collins will go down as Chris Licht’s original sin.” Ouch.

Chris Licht, of course, is the recently removed CNNLOL CEO. What was he thinking? Collins had failed in her role as a morning co-anchor. Collins had failed spectacularly during her gloriously devastating role as the moderator of former President Trump’s triumphant town hall. So, as is always the case in the corporate media, Collins failed all the way up to CNN’s plum primetime slot.

Here’s the thing…

It doesn’t matter what CNN does with Nurse Ratched or with the 9:00 p.m. slot. CNN is doomed. CNN cannot survive on merit, which is advertising revenue based on ratings. No one watches CNN. The fake news network’s survival is wholly dependent on the affirmative action of cable TV carriage fees, and that affirmative action is quickly coming to an end.

It gets worse for these liars. A few years ago, CNN’s ratings were terrible, but it could still make waves and influence the news cycle. Today, CNN cannot even do that. CNN has no influence on the daily narrative. It is the proverbial tree falling in the forest with no one listening. Why? Because no one believes anything CNN reports. Why? Read on…

The Biden regime is preparing to reinstate full COVID-19 lockdowns, beginning with masking mandates for TSA and airport employees reportedly as early as mid-September, Infowars first to report.

A high-level TSA official reached out to Infowars, detailing a Tuesday meeting where TSA managers were informed of new memorandums and policies that would reimplement mask-wearing.

These policies will reinstate the mask mandate for TSA and airport employees starting in mid-September.

According to the TSA official, further details on how the policy will escalate will be provided next week.

The official added that by mid-October, mask-wearing will be mandated for pilots, flight staff, passengers, and all airport patrons.

Following this disclosure from the TSA official, Infowars reached out to a trusted Border Patrol source, also in a managerial position.

This source corroborated the directives, confirming that similar measures were being planned for Border Patrol personnel.

“They were told it was not a matter of “if” but “when” official Covid numbers will go back up and they expect by mid-October a return to forced-masking policies that the Biden administration previously only reluctantly ended after massive pressure,” Infowarsreported.

The news outlet added, “Both whistleblowers were told this rollout will be in tandem with the new Covid “variant” hysteria that the MSM has been reporting on this week.”

The Gateway Pundit previously reported that health experts are now sounding the alarm on the new COVID variant.

The World Health Organization classified the EG.5 coronavirus strain circulating in the United States and China as a “variant of interest” but stressed it did not seem to pose more of a threat to public health than other variants. Despite the message from WHO, some health experts are sounding the alarm.

On Thursday, WHO made a formal announcement on Thursday, categorizing the BA.2.86 variant—a highly mutated variant—as a “variant under monitoring.”

This designation represents the lowest of three levels of alert set by the global health body.

Meanwhile, the so-called “high flying” variants EG.5, XBB.1.5, and XBB.1.6 have been elevated to the status of “variants of interest,” signaling a higher level of concern.

Among all current variants, only Omicron retains the classification of a “variant of concern,” which is the WHO’s most urgent level of alert, according to Fortune.

HELSINKI — Russia’s Luna-25 mission ended in failure after crashing into the moon, space agency Roscosmos has announced.

A statement posted to the agency’s Telegram social media channel early Aug. 20 confirmed that an anomaly during an Aug. 19 maneuver to lower Luna-25’s orbit resulted in the spacecraft impacting the lunar surface.

The spacecraft was scheduled to attempt a soft lunar landing Aug. 21, near Boguslawsky crater, located approximately 70 degrees south latitude in the vicinity of the south polar region of the moon.

Roscosmos announced Aug. 19 that at 7:10 a.m. Eastern that day Luna-25 was instructed to fire its engines to send the spacecraft into a “pre-landing” orbit around the moon. The planned maneuver was anomalous, however.

“An emergency situation occurred on board the automatic station, which did not allow the maneuver to be performed with the specified parameters,” according to a translation of the Roscosmos statement.

The agency clarified Sunday that contact was lost with the spacecraft around 7:57 a.m. Eastern. Measures taken Aug. 19 and 20 to reestablish contact with Luna-25 were not successful, according to the Aug. 20 statement.

A preliminary analysis revealed that a deviation of the actual parameters of the impulse from those calculated resulted in the spacecraft colliding with the lunar surface, according to a machine translation of the statement.

“A specially formed interdepartmental commission will deal with the issues of clarifying the reasons for the loss of the Moon,” the statement read.

The Luna-25 mission launched on a Soyuz-2.1b rocket from the Vostochny Cosmodrome in Russia’s Far East Aug. 10.

The mission had endured lengthy delays stemming from technical issues and resource constraints. It carried a number of science payloads but was mainly a technology demonstrator for future lunar landings later in the decade.

That technology, stripped of a European navigation camera following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, could not be tested. The country’s previous lunar landing was Luna-24, a Soviet-era sample return mission, in 1976.

The loss of Luna-25 is a blow to Russia’s own plans as well as wider cooperative efforts. The mission was also nominally part of the China-led International Lunar Research Station (ILRS). The Luna-25 launch was attended by Wu Yanhua, a senior official involved in China’s deep space exploration projects.

A ILRS roadmap unveiled in St. Petersburg, Russia, in June 2021 noted that Russian super heavy-lift launch vehicles would share the burden of launching major pieces of infrastructure for the station in the 2030s. Observers have expressed doubts on Russia’s capabilities to contribute significantly to the project following its occupation of Ukraine.

Luna-25 was being described in the media as being in a race with India’s Chandrayaan-3 lander to set down near the moon’s south polar region. Chandrayaan-3 successfully lowered its lunar orbit Aug. 19, setting it up for a landing attempt at a similar latitude to Luna 25.

Chandrayaan-3’s landing is expected around 8.34 a.m. Eastern Aug. 23. A further mission, the Smart Lander for Investigating Moon (SLIM) by Japan’s space agency JAXA, is scheduled for launch on a H-2A rocket Aug. 25. SLIM is a landing technology demonstrator aiming to make exploration more precise and economical.

Let's face it, CNN is not exactly an objective news agency. We saw some attempts when Chris Licht was in charge to make noises about being objective. But then he got the boot, and I don't think they'll be convincing anyone anytime soon that they've changed. That's why when they have moments of lucidity, where they're finally forced to admit a little truth, it's noteworthy and often funny.

There was one of those moments on Friday when hell was starting to freeze over. Jake Tapper who, I think, hates former President Donald Trump with the passion of a thousand suns was forced to admit, "Trump was right."

Tapper was part of a panel talking about the Biden family scandal. He pointed to a Washington Post story about Hunter Biden admitting in court that he made “$2.4 million in income in 2017 and $2.2 million in income in 2018 — most of which came from Chinese or Ukrainian interests.”

“This directly goes against what Joe Biden said in the debate in 2020 with Donald Trump,” Tapper said. He then ran a clip of what Biden said during the debate when Biden denied that Hunter had made any money in China. Trump nailed him good, refuting that, "He made a fortune in Ukraine, in China, in Moscow, and various other places" as Biden falsely ranted, "That is simply not true!"

Tapper admitted, "Trump was right. I mean he did make a fortune from China, and Joe Biden was wrong. I don’t know that he was lying about it. He might not have been told by Hunter, but this blind spot is a problem." Andy Levin, a Democrat on the panel, pushed the Democratic talking point that there was nothing to connect Joe Biden, which anyone following along knows is nonsense.

Welcome to reality, Jake Tapper. We've just been saying this since 2019. We've been laying out a mountain of stories about Hunter Biden's foreign dealings and Joe Biden's various connections. The truth was there to be had if you acted like journalists in 2020 during that debate when Joe Biden was pushing that falsehood. Talk about a blind spot, CNN didn't want to address the questions about Biden.

Even now as Tapper makes these admissions, he doesn't quite go all the way, saying that he doesn't if Joe Biden "was lying about it."

So there's that thing about being a journalist again. CNN or Tapper could talk with Tony Bobulinski and ask him about Sinohawk - the Chinese-connected company the Bidens had been trying to form with the infamous "10 percent" for the "big guy." You could ask why did Joe think he was meeting with Hunter's business associate Jonathan Li in Beijing? Or writing college recommendations for Li's kidsif he didn't know about Hunter's business dealings with him? And that's just China. What about the dinners and the photos with all the business associates?

The House Oversight Committee came out this past week with bank records showing $20 million went to the Bidens including from people from Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan. The Chair of the Committee, Rep. James Comer (R-KY) also promised that they would be subpoenaing the Biden family.

Tapper is finally admitting reality, but there's so much more there. So while hell is starting to freeze over a bit, they still have so much further to go.

The CIA warned US Secretary of State Antony Blinken that “the Ukrainian offense was not going to work,“ reports veteran journalist Seymour Hersh. The end of the Biden Regime’s “murderous and failing war policy in Ukraine” is near, Hersh wrote.

Hersh cites an unnamed intel official who said that SecState Antony Blinken “has figured out that the United States” and Ukraine “will not win the war” against Russia. On Thursday, the Washington Post reported the U.S. intel community realizes the Ukrainian offensive will fail to achieve its key goal of taking the southeastern city of Melitopol, a strategic Russian logistics hub.

“The word was getting to (Blinken) through the Agency that the Ukrainian offense was not going to work. It was a show by Zelensky and there were some in the administration who believed his bullshit,“ Hersh’s source said.

“Blinken wanted to broker a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine as Kissinger did in Paris to end the Vietnam war,” according to the official.

Hersh’s source said that the recent peace conference in Saudia Arabia was National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan’s “baby,” planned as a crowning achievement after a successful Ukrainian counter-offensive. Instead, the Jeddah Peace Conference without Russian attendance fizzled.

Sullivan “planned it to be Biden’s equivalent of (President Woodrow) Wilson’s Versailles. The grand alliance of the free world meeting in a victory celebration after the humiliating defeat of the hated foe to determine the shape of nations for the next generation. Fame and Glory. Promotion and re-election. The jewel in the crown was to be Zelensky’s achievement of Putin’s unconditional surrender after the lightning spring offensive. They were even planning a Nuremberg type trial at the world court, with Jake as our representative. Just one more fuck-up, but who is counting?”

The CIA had warned SecState Blinken that the Spring counter-offensive “was going to be a big lose,” Hersh writes. “Blinken found himself way over his skis. But he does not want to go down as the court jester.”

When war hawk Blinken was “suddenly having doubts,” CIA director Bill Burns “made his move to join the sinking ship,” Hersh writes. Burns may have been jockeying to replace “a disillusioned Blinken,” according to Hersh, but only got “a token promotion: an appointment to Biden’s cabinet.”

At the same time, “ultra-hawkish” Victoria Nuland was promoted by Biden from Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs to Acting Deputy Secretary of State ”over the heated objections of many in the State Department,” Hersh writes. “She has not been formally nominated as the deputy for fear that her nomination would lead to a hellish fight in the Senate. “

“Tony Blinken, who publicly vowed just a few months ago that there would be no immediate ceasefire in Ukraine, is still in office and, if asked, would certainly dispute any notion of discontent with Zelensky or the administration’s murderous and failing war policy in Ukraine,” Hersh writes. The White House’s “wishful approach to the war, when it comes to realistic talk to the American people, will continue apace,” Hersh said. “But the end is nearing, even if the assessments supplied by Biden to the public are out of a comic strip.”

In November, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley said that a victory by Ukraine may not be achieved militarily and that Kiev should look for a diplomatic solution to the crisis. “We may have missed a window to push for earlier talks,” a US official told Politico, admitting that “Milley had a point.”

The governor of Zaporozhye region, Yevgeny Balitsky, claimed “mass desertions” are taking place among Ukrainian conscripts, stating that that approx. 500 Ukrainian soldiers had fled the fighting on the Zaporozhye front. “I just received information that two of the three airmobile battalions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine refused to participate in offensive operations in the direction of our positions due to their low moral and psychological state,” Balitsky wrote on Telegram.

Pro-Russian news channels are currently being censored, making it harder to get a more balanced point of view to contrast with Biden Regime-controlled media. On August 11, YouTube terminated the account of former US intel analyst Scott Ritter and deleted all of his videos. On August 18, the domain of pro-Russian website Southfront.org was taken down internationally “without any advance notice and explanation,” SouthFront writes on Telegram. It has now been replaced with southfront.press. SouthFront has also been censored from YouTube, Facebook and Twitter and its volunteers interrogated by the FBI, the pro-Russian platform writes.

Fountains of diamonds erupt from Earth's center as supercontinents break up

The breakup of supercontinents may trigger explosive eruptions that send fountains of diamonds shooting up to Earth's surface.

Diamonds form deep in Earth's crust, approximately 93 miles (150 kilometers) down. They are brought up to the surface very quickly in eruptions called kimberlites. These kimberlites travel at between 11 and 83 mph (18 to 133 km/h), and some eruptions may have created Mount Vesuvius-like explosions of gases and dust, said Thomas Gernon, a professor of Earth and climate science at the University of Southampton in England.

Researchers noticed that kimberlites occur most often during times when the tectonic plates are rearranging themselves in big ways, Gernon said, such as during the breakup of the supercontinent Pangaea. Oddly, though, kimberlites often erupt in the middle of continents, not at the edges of breakups — and this interior crust is thick, tough and hard to disrupt.

"The diamonds have been sat at the base of the continents for hundreds of millions or even billions of years," Gernon said. "There must be some stimulus that just drives them suddenly, because these eruptions themselves are really powerful, really explosive."

Gernon and his colleagues began by looking for correlations between the ages of kimberlites and the degree of plate fragmentation occurring at those times. They found that over the last 500 million years, there is a pattern where the plates start to pull apart, then 22 million to 30 million years later, kimberlite eruptions peak. (This pattern held over the last 1 billion years as well but with more uncertainty given the difficulties of tracing geologic cycles that far back.)

For example, the researchers found that kimberlite eruptions picked up in what is now Africa and South America starting about 25 million years after the breakup of the southern supercontinent Gondwana, about 180 million years ago. Today's North America also saw a spike in kimberlites after Pangaea began to rift apart around 250 million years ago. Interestingly, these kimberlite eruptions seemed to start at the edges of the rifts and then marched steadily toward the center of the land masses.

To figure out what was driving these patterns, the researchers used multiple computer models of the deep crust and upper mantle. They found that when tectonic plates pull apart, the base of the continental crust thins — just as the crust up top stretches out and forms valleys. Hot rock rises, comes into contact with this now-disrupted boundary, cools and sinks again, creating local areas of circulation.

These unstable regions can trigger instability in neighboring regions, gradually migrating thousands of miles toward the center of the continent. This finding matches the real-life pattern seen with kimberlite eruptions starting near rift zones and then moving to continental interiors, the researchers reported July 26 in the journal Nature.

But how do these instabilities cause explosive eruptions from deep in the crust? It's all in the mixing of just the right materials, Gernon said. The instabilities are enough to allow rock from the upper mantle and lower crust to flow against each other.

his churns together rock with lots of water and carbon dioxide trapped within it, along with many key kimberlite minerals — including diamonds. The result is like shaking a bottle of champagne, Gernon said: eruptions with a lot of explosive potential and buoyancy to drive them to the surface.

The findings could be useful in searching for undiscovered diamond deposits, Gernon said. They might also help explain why there are other types of volcanic eruptions that sometimes occur long after a supercontinent breakup in regions that should be largely stable.

"It’s a fundamental and highly organized physical process," Gernon said, "so it's likely not just kimberlites responding to it, but it could be a whole array of Earth system processes that are responding to this as well."

The Biden administration has been selling away parts that were made and intended to be used to extend the southern border wall.

According to The New York Post, the unused parts of the border wall that the Biden administration has been quietly auctioning off are worth millions of dollars. Since April, GovPlanet, an online auction house which specializes in military surplus has sold over 80 lots of “square structural tubes.”

The parts that have been sold were intended to be used as vertical bollards in the border wall along the southern border. So far, the auction house has brought in around $2 million from the parts that have been sold.

The move by the Biden administration comes as the Senate passed a Republican-sponsored bill as part of its annual defense appropriation package which is aimed at forcing the president to stem the worsening migrant crisis at the southern border.

The Finish It Act would force the administration to extend the border wall, or send the unused material to border states, such as Texas, so they can put them to use along their southern borders.

Republicans have claimed that since President Joe Biden took office, around $300 million worth of taxpayer-funded wall parts have been left unused.

The bill’s sponsor, Senator Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) denounced the decision by the administration to auction the parts away labelling it as “outrageous, behind-the-scenes maneuvering.”

“This sale is a wasteful and ludicrous decision by the Biden administration that only serves as further proof they have no shame,” Wicker told The New York Post.

The GovPlanet website reportedly increased its sales efforts in May when the bill was first introduced, and again just days after the bill passed on a bipartisan vote.

An anonymous source from the auction website told the Daily Upside, a financial newsletter, that they are under instruction to not speak on the issue.

“We are legally not allowed to mention these are the border wall materials, or we could lose our jobs,” the source told the financial newsletter.

In 2021, the Biden administration was criticized for spending around $2 billion on storage costs and termination fees as he tried to cancel the contracts for the border wall that were agreed to under President Donald Trump.

Trump had spent around $15 billion during his presidency to install a total of around 700 miles of border wall after he promised to build “an impenetrable, physical, tall, powerful, beautiful southern border wall.”

On Biden’s first day in office he had cancelled the project calling it “a waste of money.”

As the border wall was cancelled, illegal immigrant surged across the open border. U.S. Customs and Border Protection documented around 1.7 million migrant encounters along the southern border in fiscal year 2021 and around 2.4 million in 2022.

All the proceeds that GovPlanet receives from auctioning off the border wall parts will be heading back towards the Pentagon’s budget.

As RedState reported, a new report from Politico blew up the lengths to which Hunter Biden's legal team went to secure the sweetheart plea deal that would eventually fall apart under questioning from Judge Maryellen Noreika.

In a shocking revelation, a threat was lodged to call President Joe Biden as a witness if the now-infamous gun crime Hunter Biden committed was prosecuted. That would have presumably left the DOJ facing the wrath of the White House, and sure enough, pre-trial diversion with broad immunity was eventually offered.

The New York Times was also shown the emails that Politico based its story on, and together, the two outlets offer a stunning look at various events that appear to show clear collusion between Hunter Biden and the DOJ. Tristen Leavitt, who works for Empower Oversight, a whistleblower advocacy group that represents Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler, put together a thread of the highlights.

Had the DOJ Tax Division approved charges against Hunter Biden, Weiss would have had the ability to file charges wherever he wanted. Why was that denied, given the clear evidence that existed that Hunter Biden had failed to lawfully pay his taxes, never mind the alleged fraud he committed in doing so (i.e., claiming a sex club membership as a golf club membership)?

Hunter Biden's legal strategy was to pressure and coerce the DOJ into not prosecuting. That was accomplished through the aforementioned threat of calling Joe Biden to testify, but also through a series of moves to politicize the probe, including inserting Donald Trump into the discussion. You may recognize the name Lesley Wolf, as that's the same Assitant U.S. Attorney who essentially scuttled the IRS' investigation into Hunter Biden. I can only assume she took the threat of "career suicide" from Hunter Biden's lawyers very seriously given her actions regarding the case.

Pressure also appears to have been applied to the U.S. Attorneys in other districts, including in the districts that would ultimately not file charges and rebuff Weiss' request for cooperation.

Things didn't stop there, though. Hunter Biden's lawyers then sought to go over the head of Weiss.

It wasn't long before the very same associate attorney general who Clark appealed to decided to force Weiss to have yet another meeting with Hunter Biden's legal team. That's when the timeline gets really crazy.

Yes, you read that right. One of the top officials at the DOJ forced Weiss to meet with Hunter Biden's primary lawyer, and just four days later, the IRS whistleblowers (Shapley and Ziegler) were removed from the case. The rest is history. The sweetheart plea deal would then be formulated and pursued by both sides.

It's impossible to ignore how corrupt this entire process was, and it's also impossible to believe that Weiss could still be trusted to handle this probe in an unbiased fashion. When a U.S. Attorney has already succumbed to so much pressure, including pressure that looks incredibly corrupt, there's no reason to believe that person has what it takes to be the special counsel in charge.

The “inadequate” leadership of Vladimir Zelensky has caused a national catastrophe in Ukraine and MPs should hold him accountable, according to Oleg Soskin, who served as an aide to two Ukrainian presidents.

The country’s economy has been “destroyed”amid the conflict with Russia, he said in a video that was posted on his YouTube channel on Saturday.

“There’s no breakthrough anywhere” by Ukrainian forces on the front line, Soskin continued, adding that the public “shouldn’t believe retired colonels,” who are speaking about Kiev’s military gains.

Zelensky’s insistence that Ukraine will defeat Russia and his reluctance to acknowledge the actual situation is a sign that the president is “inadequate” both as a manager and a person, he said.

“Zelensky is just dangerous for the country. He’s simply dangerous for the people,” warned Soskin, who served as an aide to Ukrainian presidents Leonid Kravchuk in 1992 and 1993, and Leonid Kuchma between 1998 and 2000.

“Something must be done about Zelensky. I’m calling for it again,” he said. “Gather up, somebody has to show initiative. Some conditions must be put forward for [the president],” Soskin insisted, addressing Ukrainian MPs.

Earlier this week, Zelensky claimed that his team was “preparing powerful things for Ukraine” in cooperation with their Western partners, saying that the country had “taken another step towards the circle of the strongest states in the world.”

The much-hyped Ukrainian counteroffensive began in early June, with Kiev deploying its best Western-equipped and trained brigades in an attempt to sever Russia’s land bridge linking Donbass with Crimea in the southern province of Zaporozhye.

According to Russian estimates, Ukraine has lost more than 43,000 troops and nearly 5,000 pieces of heavy equipment amid the operation, but failed to achieve any significant gains. Kiev has so far reported the seizure of several villages, but they appear to be located some distance away from main Russian defense lines.

Earlier this week, the Washington Post cited a classified US intelligence report, which suggested that “Ukraine’s counteroffensive will fail to reach the key southeastern city of Melitopol,” and that Russia’s land bridge to Crimea won’t be severed this year.

The coup leader, General Abdourahmane Tchiani, has pledged to return the African nation to civilian rule over time

Niger will return to civilian rule within three years, the West African nation’s new military government has pledged, while warning nearby states against trying to intervene in Niamey’s internal affairs.

In a televised address on Saturday evening, General Abdourahmane Tchiani – who deposed President Mohamed Bazoum in late July – said his government would decide on the principles for a transition within a month. The process itself is expected to take “no longer than three years,” Tchiani said.

He also stressed that while neither his government, nor the Nigerien people, want war and “remain open to dialogue,” the country is ready to defend itself against any external “aggression.” Tchiani predicted that such an intervention “would not be the walk in the park that some believe.

Commenting on his first meeting with representatives of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the general expressed confidence that the two sides “will work together to find a way out of the crisis, in the interests of all.”

On Friday, the bloc’s commissioner for political affairs, peace and security, Abdel-Fatau Musah, warned that ECOWAS had decided on “D-Day” for military action in Niger, adding that the member states had “agreed and fine-tuned what will be required for the intervention.”

Last week, the organization ordered the deployment of a “standby force” to reinstall President Bazoum in Niger.

According to Musah, 11 of the 15 member states have agreed to deploy their troops, should an intervention take place.

However, not all ECOWAS members are on board. Chad and Guinea have opposed both sanctions on Niger and any military deployment.

The military governments in Burkina Faso and Mali have gone as far as warning that they will consider a military operation against Niger tantamount to a declaration of war against themselves.

The new military government in Niamey, for its part, has accused ECOWAS of acting at the behest of former colonial ruler France.

Niger’s mines are an important source of uranium for France’s nuclear reactors. Paris has 1,500 soldiers stationed in the country, which the new military rulers want gone.The US has 1,000 military personnel in the country, also declared unwelcome. The contingents were deployed to Niger to fight against numerous terrorist and insurgent groups operating in the Sahel region.

Three More Hunter Biden Attorneys Quit, Bringing Total To Five

Three more of Hunter Biden's attorneys have filed a motion to withdraw from his ongoing case, after a Delaware judge dismissed his two tax misdemeanors without prejudice at the request of DOJ prosecutors - a move which will allow for the possibility of charging Biden in Washington DC or the Central District of California.

Mrian C. McManus Timothy H. McCarten and Matthew S. Salerno of Latham & Watkins LLP filed a motion to withdraw as counsel following US District Judge Maryellen Noreika's decision to grand the DOJ's request.

Latham & Watkins drew controversy the night before Biden’s late July court appearance because a staffer from the firm allegedly misrepresented her identity to the Clerk’s office and described herself as someone who worked for Theodore Kittila, the attorney for the House Ways and Means Committee.

The Committee was attempting to have Noreika consider testimony from IRS whistleblowers Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler showing “political interference” in the Hunter Biden investigation. Salerno attributed the incident to a “miscommunication” and the staffer said in a sworn affidavit she did not mischaracterize her identity with intent to deceive the court. -Daily Caller

The move brings the total number of Hunter Biden attorneys who have quit to five, with the first - Joshua Levy, quitting in March, and Christopher Clark quitting last week because he could be called as a witness in the case after plea negotiations broke down.

"Brian C. McManus, counsel for the Defendant, Robert Hunter Biden, and respectfully requests this Honorable Court to withdraw all appearances for the law firm of Latham & Watkins LLP as counsel for the Defendant in the above-captioned matter," reads Friday's motion, which doesn't provide a reason for the move.

"Mr. Biden has been advised of, and consents to, our withdrawal. He also agrees this withdrawal will cause no material adverse effect or prejudice to him and remains completely satisfied with Messrs. Lowell’s and Jones’s continued representation of him."

Hunter will continue to be represented by Abbe Lowell of Winston & Strawn LLP and Richard I.G. Jones Jr. of Berger Harris LLP. Biden’s top defense counsel, according to the Daily Caller.

Last month a sweetheart plea deal with the DOJ fell apart after Judge Noreika objected to terms which would have given Hunter broad immunity from future prosecution, even from unrelated crimes.

I have to admit that in my efforts to analyze and dissect far-left/globalist ideologies and agendas I have come to a point where I am just as fascinated as I am horrified. Consider for a moment the progressive “intersectional” narrative which we often refer to as “woke”: It’s not an activist movement because they already have equal rights under the law. It’s partially a political movement but their goals go far beyond putting candidates in government – A large part of the government is already on their side.

They claim to stand against “capitalism” and corporate power, yet their movement is primarily funded by the very money elites they say they despise.

No, this movement is something different – It’s a system of blind belief and the invasion of a cult that worships itself, that worships power and seeks to undermine the truth whenever possible as a means to an end. We are witnessing history in the making; the birth of a monstrous religion of moral relativism.

To understand the political left and their tactics you have to understand their relationship with the globalists. Woke groups are a creation of the corporate/globalist regime. For decades think-tanks like the Ford Foundation and the Rockefeller Foundation have been grooming universities to produce a steady supply of cult members, all of them indoctrinated into a carefully crafted narrative that clings to socialism and uses victim status as a currency.

They abhor meritocracy and have delusions of equity. They demand an impossible Utopia that guarantees equal outcomes. They see self sufficiency as criminality; an attempt to escape from collective oversight. And they are more than willing to rationalize dishonesty, disinformation, deconstruction, chaos and murder as a means to get what they want.

As I’ve noted in the past, it’s difficult to combat a movement with no morals and no shame. If your purpose is to convince them to stop what they are doing using logic, data, common sense and appeals to conscience, you will fail. They don’t care about any of these things. The leftist obsession with power is absolute – It’s all they talk about. It’s the root of every one of their arguments.

That said, their concept of power is rather limited and childish.

For the woke, power is in cancel culture. Power is in the mob. Power is in displays of collective destruction and control.

They ask themselves “What can we take from others, and how can we instill fear?” They believe the more they can take, the more power they have.

Globalists view power in a similar manner to leftists, but they expand on the manifesto with the question “How can we convince others to give us control willingly?”

Pentagon Sends 700 Military Personnel Aid for Maui Recovery

The Pentagon has deployed around 700 personnel in Maui to assist in recovery following the devastating wildfires ravaging the region.

The Department of Defense (DoD) has 691 personnel on the ground in Maui who are engaged in planning, synchronizing, and coordinating support to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the state of Hawaii. The workforce is engaged in the transportation of cargo, personnel, supplies, and equipment, and standing by for aerial fire suppression. The DoD is also providing support for billeting, life support, and hygiene facilities for federal emergency workers.

Search and rescue teams are currently conducting searches over wide areas. Two CH-47 Chinook helicopters are aiding in fire suppression with water buckets. Joint Task Force (JTF) 5-0 is engaged in 24-hour security operations in the town of Lahaina, along with maintaining traffic control points.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has transported 32 FEMA generators to Maui. Six forensic anthropologists are involved in gathering and identifying human remains.

The military is also expected to take part in engineering and damage assessment as well as rebuilding efforts.

“I want to reiterate our commitment to the residents of Maui County and the broader Hawaiian community. The combined strength of our military and civilian partners is making a significant impact on the ground, and I’m immensely proud of every individual contributing to these efforts,” Army Brig. Gen. Stephen F. Logan said during a press conference on Friday.

Over 1,000 federal responders are currently in Maui, including 350 members from the search and rescue team together with the canine squad. Almost 6,000 survivors of the wildfires have registered for federal assistance.

Survivors who are yet to register for assistance can do so by visiting disasterassistance.gov, calling 1-800-621-3362, or via the FEMA app.

Emergency Head Resigns

According to the County of Maui, there were 114 confirmed deaths as of Aug. 18. The most destructive of the fires in Lahaina has been 90 percent contained. It has burned through an estimated 2,168 acres of land. The Olinda fire that burned around 1,081 acres is 85 percent contained.

“When a fire is 100 percent contained, it does not mean it has been extinguished. It means that firefighters have the blaze fully surrounded. A fire is declared ‘extinguished’ when fire personnel believe there is nothing left burning,” the county clarified.

The exact number of missing people in the Maui fire is unclear as thousands are displaced, and search and rescue missions are ongoing. FEMA has declined to give an estimate of the number.

The judge who has been assigned the sweeping racketeering case against former President Donald Trump and 18 others is a 34-year-old former prosecutor and inspector general who took the bench just six months ago.

Scott McAfee is also an award-winning trial lawyer, a veteran musician and an athlete who has volunteered as a scuba diver with the Georgia Aquarium. He was appointed to be a Fulton County Superior Court judge by Republican Gov. Brian Kemp.

By random selection, McAfee,who once worked under Fulton District Attorney Fani Willis, was assigned the blockbuster case. He will hear it, unless the former Republican commander-in-chief and his allies are successful in moving it to federal court, where they could get a more conservative jury pool

In interviews with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, McAfee’s friends and former colleagues described him as a bright and driven legal “star” with a mild-mannered demeanor, impeccable ethics and plenty of conservative credentials.

“He is probably the best person I can think of to handle this case fairly and efficiently,” said Alex Stewart, a longtime friend who competes on McAfee’s Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association team. “I have high hopes and feel good about his ability to be objective in this case as well and not fold to pressure from either side.”

Birth rate slump in West will address overconsumption, former government adviser says

Britain’s top demographics expert has said the falling number of babies born in Britain is a “good thing” after new data showed the number of births had hit a 20-year low.

Professor Sarah Harper CBE, founder and director of the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing and a former government adviser, said falling birth rates in the West were “good for… our planet”.

Her comments came after official figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed there were 605,479 live births in England and Wales last year, the lowest number since 2002.

The total was down 3.1pc compared to 2021 and is part of a long-term decline in the number of births across Britain and the developed world.

Prof Harper told the Telegraph: “I think it’s a good thing that the high-income, high-consuming countries of the world are reducing the number of children that they’re having. I’m quite positive about that.”

The academic said declining fertility in rich countries would help to address the “general overconsumption that we have at the moment”, which has a negative impact on the planet.

Prof Harper served on the Prime Minister’s Council for Science and Technology between 2014 and 2017. She was awarded a CBE for services to demography in 2018.

She said the UK’s declining birth rate was “inevitable” and in-line with trends in other developed economies.
