Trump indicted for efforts to overturn 2020 election and block transfer of power

WASHINGTON (AP) — Donald Trump was indicted on felony charges Tuesday for working to overturn the results of the 2020 election in the run-up to the violent riot by his supporters at the U.S. Capitol, with the Justice Department acting to hold him accountable for an unprecedented effort to block the peaceful transfer of presidential power and threaten American democracy.

The four-count indictment, the third criminal case against Trump, provided deeper insight into a dark moment that has already been the subject of exhaustive federal investigations and captivating public hearings. It chronicles a months-long campaign of lies about the election results and says that, even when those falsehoods resulted in a chaotic insurrection at the Capitol, Trump sought to exploit the violence by pointing to it as a reason to further delay the counting of votes that sealed his defeat.

Even in a year of rapid-succession legal reckonings for Trump, Tuesday’s criminal case, with charges including conspiring to defraud the United States government that he once led, was stunning in its allegations that a former president assaulted the “bedrock function” of democracy. It’s the first time the defeated president, who is the early front-runner for next year’s Republican presidential nomination, is facing legal consequences for his frantic but ultimately failed effort to cling to power.

“The attack on our nation’s Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, was an unprecedented assault on the seat of American democracy,” said Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith, whose office has spent months investigating Trump. “It was fueled by lies, lies by the defendant targeted at obstructing a bedrock function of the U.S. government: the nation’s process of collecting counting and certifying the results of the presidential election.”

The Trump campaign called the charges “fake” and asked why it took two-and-a-half years to bring them.

Trump was the only person charged in Tuesday’s indictment. But prosecutors obliquely referenced a half-dozen co-conspirators, including lawyers inside and outside of government who they said had worked with Trump to undo the election results. They also advanced legally dubious schemes to enlist slates of fake electors in seven battleground states won by Democrat Joe Biden to falsely claim that Trump had actually won them.

The indictment accuses the defeated president and his allies of trying to “exploit the violence and chaos” by calling lawmakers into the evening on Jan. 6 to delay the certification of Biden’s victory.

It also cites handwritten notes from former Vice President Mike Pence that give gravitas to Trump’s relentless goading to reject the electoral votes. Pence, who is challenging Trump for the GOP presidential nomination, declined overtures from a House panel that investigated the insurrection and sought to avoid testifying before the special counsel. He appeared only after losing a court fight, with prosecutors learning that Trump in one conversation called him “too honest” to stop the certification.

Trump is due in court Thursday, the first step in a legal process that will play out in a courthouse situated between the White House he once controlled and the Capitol his supporters once stormed. The case is already being dismissed by the former president and his supporters — and even some of his rivals — as just another politically motivated prosecution.

Yet the case stems from one of the most serious threats to American democracy in modern history.

The indictment centers on the turbulent two months after the November 2020 election in which Trump refused to accept his loss and spread lies that victory was stolen from him. The turmoil resulted in the riot at the Capitol, when Trump loyalists violently broke into the building, attacked police officers and disrupted the congressional counting of electoral votes.

In between the election and the riot, Trump urged local election officials to undo voting results in their states, pressured Pence to halt the certification of electoral votes and falsely claimed that the election had been stolen — a notion repeatedly rejected by judges. Among those lies, prosecutors say, were claims that mote than 10,000 dead voters had voted in Georgia along with tens of thousands of double votes in Nevada. Each claim had been rebutted by courts or state or federal officials, the indictment says.

Prosecutors say Trump knew his claims of having won the election were false but he “repeated and widely disseminated them anyway — to make his knowingly false claims appear legitimate, to create an intense national atmosphere of mistrust and anger, and to erode public faith in the administration of the election.” ...

The indictment had been expected since Trump said in mid-July that the Justice Department had informed him he was a target of its investigation. A bipartisan House committee that spent months investigating the run-up to the Capitol riot also recommended prosecuting Trump on charges, including aiding an insurrection and obstructing an official proceeding.

The indictment includes charges of conspiring to defraud the U.S., conspiring to obstruct an official proceeding and violating a post-Civil War Reconstruction Era civil rights statute that makes it a crime to conspire to violate rights that are guaranteed by the Constitution — in this case, the right to vote.

The mounting criminal cases against Trump are unfolding in the heat of the 2024 race. A conviction in this case, or any other, would not prevent Trump from pursuing the White House or serving as president, though Trump as president could theoretically appoint an attorney general to dismiss the charges or potentially try to pardon himself.

In New York, state prosecutors have charged Trump with falsifying business records about a hush money payoff to a porn actor before the 2016 election. The trial begins in late March.

In Florida, the Justice Department has brought more than three dozen felony counts, accusing him of illegally possessing classified documents after leaving the White House and concealing them from investigators. The trial begins in May.

Prosecutors in Georgia are investigating efforts by Trump and his allies to reverse his election loss to Biden there. The district attorney of Fulton County is expected to announce charging decisions within weeks.

As part of his federal investigation, Smith’s team cast a broad net, with his team of prosecutors questioning senior Trump administration officials, including Pence, before a grand jury in Washington. Prosecutors also interviewed election officials in Georgia, Wisconsin, Michigan and other battleground states won by Biden who were pressured by the Trump team to change voting results.

Rudy Giuliani, a Trump lawyer who pursued post-election legal challenges, spoke voluntarily to prosecutors weeks before the indictment. Giuliani was not cited by name in the indictment, but appears to match the description of one of the co-conspirators. A spokesman for Giuliani said Tuesday night that Trump had a “good-faith basis” for the actions he took.

Attorney General Merrick Garland last year appointed Smith, an international war crimes prosecutor who also led the Justice Department’s public corruption section, as special counsel to investigate efforts to undo the election as well as Trump’s retention of classified documents at his Florida home, Mar-a-Lago. Although Trump has derided him as “deranged” and called him politically motivated, Smith’s past experience includes overseeing significant prosecutions against high-profile Democrats.

The Justice Department’s investigations began well before Smith’s appointment, proceeding alongside separate criminal probes into the rioters themselves. More than 1,000 people have been charged in connection with the insurrection, including some with seditious conspiracy.

EU citizens unite to combat WHO Pandemic Treaty

July 30, 2023

Citizens of EU nations have come together to launch the “Trust and Freedom Initiative" to push back against the World Health Organization's (WHO) proposed Pandemic Treaty.

The new initiative was unveiled at the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium on July 4, 2023, when the representatives gathered together with Members of European Parliament (MEPs) to speak out against the tyrannical treaty. This treaty has the potential to give new levels of power and control to the WHO with regard to lockdowns, mask mandates, and other restrictions.

According to a press release about the launch,

The Trust and Freedom Initiative is a resolute response to the power consolidation observed in governments and institutions, where extensive negotiations with non-governmental and non-transparent organizations, such as the World Health Organization (WHO), occur. Citizens express concerns about the looming threat to freedom of choice, particularly regarding personal health decisions, as well as a loss of trust in governmental institutions negotiating legal documents such as amendments to the International Health Regulations (IHR) and the proposed WHO Treaty.

The initiators come from Poland, Belgium, Austria, Germany, Czech Republic, Portugal, and Bulgaria. They've made it their mission to represent “the collective voice of concerned individuals from across Europe” and to “directly address their concerns and advocate for greater trust and freedom within the European Union.”

The July 4th gathering at the European Parliament featured impassioned speeches by “Trust and Freedom” representatives, MEPs, and panelists from around the world.

The following speech and interview highlights emphasize the power of unity, collective action, and the need for the voice of every free-thinking person to be heard in the fight against tyranny:

Activist and Legal Advisor Justyna Walker of Poland:

The main thing about today is that what we really, really want for people to understand is that we cannot move and be heard if we don't do it together. . . . Thanks to the tremendous work of our team - that includes not only doctors, lawyers, activists, but also us as mothers and fathers, people from different walks of life. . . . This is what we need. We need everybody's voice, and without that voice, as an individual voice and a collective voice, we will not be able to succeed. So we want to show the unity and how many there are of us.

General Practitioner and Activist Dr. Maria Hubmer-Mogg of Austria:

This is something that is really big. I think we will collect easily, easily over a million signatures. It's not only that people see how many we are. It's that people have something in their hands that they can literally use to challenge their regional politicians. It's bringing this uniting effort that we would not have with a petition in just one country.

Project Manager and Activist Fiona Hine of the United Kingdom:

I call upon the citizens of the world to unite within their respective countries, as we will do in ours and across all continents of the world, and to tell those citizens that you do have a choice. You have the power to effect change and you have a voice - so use it. Now we must work together to stand against this power grab and at the very least, raise mass awareness and demonstrate mass noncompliance. You have a choice not to choose their new normal.

"Trust and Freedom" is an initiative of the European Citizens' Initiative (ECI), which was founded as part of the Treaty of Lisbon in 2007. The ECI's mission is "to increase direct citizen participation in shaping EU policies.”

Trump's D.C. Judge Worked For Law Firm That Employed Hunter Biden

U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan of Washington, D.C., the judge overseeing former President Donald Trump’s case in the district, previously worked at a law firm that once employed Hunter Biden and worked closely with Ukrainian energy firm Burisma.

Chutkan spent 12 years working for Boies, Schiller, & Flexner LLP (BSF) where she specialized in white collar litigation and antitrust defense, before she was nominated to her current position by former President Obama, her official bio states.

Chutkan worked at other private sector law firms and served as a public defender in Washington D.C. prior to her tenure at BSF. She graduated from George Washington University and the University of Pennsylvania law school.

“Perhaps as important as all the skillsets that she has, she is a person of just consummate decency,” Don Flexner said in December 2013 when Chutkan was nominated, the Legal Times previously reported. “I think she will be a welcome addition to the bench in Washington.”

Hunter Biden worked for BSF in the same year he was appointed to Burisma’s board in April 2014. Hunter quickly brought BSF partners into the fold to assist Burisma with its efforts to influence U.S. officials, according to emails on Hunter Biden’s laptop.

In April 2014, Hunter Biden and business associate Devon Archer spoke about how BSF could give them “protection” and work with government officials on Burisma’s behalf.

“BSF can actually have direct discussions at state, energy and NSC. They can devise a media plan and arrange for legal protections and mitigate US domestic negative press regarding the current leadership if need be,” Biden told Archer.

“The contract should begin now- not after the upcoming visit of my guy. That should include a retainer in the range of 25k p/m w/ additional fees where appropriate for more in depth work to go to BSF for our protection. Complete separate from our respective deals re board participation,” Biden added.

US government quietly announced COLLAPSE of another bank late Friday (hoping nobody would notice)

Late last week, the Kansas Office of the State Bank Commissioner shut down Heartland Tri-State Bank of Elkhart, Kan., prompting the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) to enter into a purchase and assumption agreement with Dream First Bank, National Association, of Syracuse, Kan.

The FDIC and Dream First Bank, National Association have since assumed all the deposits of Heartland Tri-State Bank, and all four of the bank's branches reopened as branches of Dream First Bank, National Association on Monday, July 31, resuming their normal business hours.

All of this happened late in the day last Friday, July 28, when almost nobody noticed, and the switch occurred quietly and seamlessly over the weekend with the new bank taking over as of Monday.

The depositors of Heartland Tri-State Bank can now access their money by wiring checks or using ATM or debit cards. Checks drawn on the bank will continue to be processed as normal, and loan customers are expected to continue making their payments as usual.

"Depositors of Heartland Tri-State Bank will become depositors of Dream First Bank, National Association, so customers do not need to change their banking relationship in order to retain their deposit insurance coverage," the FDIC announced.

"Customers of Heartland Tri-State Bank should continue to use their existing branch until they receive notice from Dream First Bank, National Association, that it has completed systems changes to allow its branch offices to process their accounts as well."

Dream First Bank, National Association agrees to purchase all of failed Heartland Tri-State Bank's assets

As of March 31, 2023, Heartland Tri-State Bank had about $139 million in total assets and $130 million in total deposits. Dream First Bank, National Association has assumed all associated deposits and has also agreed to purchase all of the failed bank's assets.

The FDIC and Dream First Bank are also entering into a commercial shared-loss agreement on the loans it purchased from the former Heartland Tri-State Bank. The FDIC as receiver along with Dream First Bank, National Association will share in the losses on loans covered by the shared-loss agreement while also sharing in potential recoveries.

This setup is projected to maximize recoveries on the assets by keeping them in the private sector while also minimizing disruptions for loan customers.

Any customers who have questions about the transaction, or about the collapse of Heartland Tri-State Bank in general, can contact the FDIC toll-free at 1-866-431-1725, or by visiting the FDIC's website.

The FDIC estimates that the total cost to cover the Deposit Insurance Fund (DIF) will be around $54.2 million. Compared to other alternatives, Dream First Bank, National Association's acquisition was the least costly resolution for the DIF, which is an insurance fund created by Congress in 1933 and managed by the FDIC to protect deposits at U.S. banks.

The corporate-controlled media is claiming that the failure of Heartland Tri-State Bank "is not believed to be a sign of broader problems within the state's banking industry."

According to the Office of the State Bank Commissioner, Heartland Tri-State Bank in Elkhart was deemed to be insolvent "due to an isolated event," even though the details of what this entails have not been disclosed.

The official claim is that the Kansas state banking industry is doing just fine and Heartland Tri-State Bank had a much smaller amount of assets than Silicon Valley Bank (SVB), which collapsed earlier this year along with several other larger banks.

US Spent Years Funding And Training The African Military That Just Overthrew Its US-Backed Gov’t

The United States has sunk $500 million over the last decade into training and equipping Niger’s armed forces, which have now overthrown the democratically-elected president of the country.

Nigerien armed forces declared that they removed President Mohamed Bazoum from power amid a coup that began last Wednesday, spearheaded by a general who studied at the Department of Defense-backed College of International Security Affairs, Reuters reported. The U.S. has spent $500 million on training and arming Nigerien soldiers and stationing more than 1,000 U.S. troops in the region, according to the U.S. Embassy in Niger.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken said over the weekend that the U.S. partnership with Niger is in “clear jeopardy.”

“Our economic and security partnership with Niger, which is significant, hundreds of millions of dollars, depends on the continuation of the democratic governance and constitutional order that has been disrupted by the actions in the last few days,” Blinken said at a press conference on Saturday. “So that assistance, that support, is in clear jeopardy as a result of these actions, which is another reason why they need to be immediately reversed.”

As of 2021, the U.S. has spent $500 million since 2012 on security aid for Niger, according to the U.S. Embassy in Niger. This includes training programs for Nigerien armed forces through “a long-term capacity-building program” as well as pre-deployment training and equipment for soldiers in two Nigerien battalions.

It also includes funds for Niger’s armed forces command, and an expansion of Niger’s intelligence and surveillance capabilities, and vehicles and fuel storage equipment.

Moreover, the man who spearheaded efforts to overthrow Bazoum is Abdourahamane Tchiani, a Nigerien general in charge of an elite unit entrusted with protecting the president. Tchiani received his military training in Morocco, France, Senegal and the United States – where he attended the College of International Security Affairs (CISA) in Washington D.C, according to a biography released by the new military rule, Reuters reported.

CISA is “the Department of Defense flagship for education and the building of partner capacity in combating terrorism, irregular warfare, and integrated deterrence at the strategic level,” according to the school’s website.

Nigerien soldiers and presidential bodyguards turned on Bazoum last week and locked him inside the presidential palace, declaring their intent to overthrow the democratically-elected president.

Nigerien armed forces have shut down flights out of the Agadez drone base, which the U.S. spent part of the $500 million security aid package on to build, according to the U.S. Embassy in Niger. Niger’s border is now sealed and a nationwide curfew has been declared, Reuters reported.

On Monday, Niger armed forces began arresting politicians in the democratically-elected government, including the mines minister, the oil minister and the head of the ruling party, according to Reuters. Military groups of neighboring countries, including Burkina Faso and Guinea, declared their support for Niger’s coup leaders and warned that foreign military intervention would be considered an act of war, Reuters reported.

THIS IS QUITE THE PUZZLE TO WORK OUT WHO ACTUALLY BAILED OUT THIS BANK, SOURCE AND WIKI LINK BELOW - THE GREAT DEPRESSION IS BACK!!

>Heartland Tri-State Bank of Elkhart, Kan.

>The FDIC and Dream First Bank, National Association have since assumed all the deposits of Heartland Tri-State Bank

--

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Deposit_Insurance_Corporation

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) is a United States government corporation supplying deposit insurance to depositors in American commercial banks and savings banks.[8]: 15 The FDIC was created by the Banking Act of 1933, enacted during the Great Depression to restore trust in the American banking system. More than one-third of banks failed in the years before the FDIC's creation, and bank runs were common.[8]: 15 [9] The insurance limit was initially US$2,500 per ownership category, and this has been increased several times over the years. Since the enactment of the Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act in 2010, the FDIC insures deposits in member banks up to $250,000 per ownership category.[10] FDIC insurance is backed by the full faith and credit of the government of the United States, and according to the FDIC, "since its start in 1933 no depositor has ever lost a penny of FDIC-insured funds".[11][12]

The FDIC is not supported by public funds; member banks' insurance dues are its primary source of funding.[13] The FDIC charges premiums based upon the risk that the insured bank poses.[14] When dues and the proceeds of bank liquidations are insufficient, it can borrow from the federal government, or issue debt through the Federal Financing Bank on terms that the bank decides.[15]

As of September 2019, the FDIC provided deposit insurance at 5,256 institutions.[16] As of Q3 2022, the Deposit Insurance Fund stood at $125.5bn with annual Assessment Revenue (insurance premiums) of $8.1bn (12 months to Q3 2022).[17]

The FDIC also examines and supervises certain financial institutions for safety and soundness, performs certain consumer-protection functions, and manages receiverships of failed banks. Quarterly reports are published indicating details of the banks’ financial performance,[18] including leverage ratio (but not CET1 Capital Requirements & Liquidity Coverage Ratio as specified in Basel III).

Former Vice President Mike Pence didn't parse words when reacting to former President Donald Trump's indictment by Special Counsel Jack Smith on Tuesday.

In a statement released following Trump's indictment on charges related to the Jan. 6, 2021 riot at the U.S. Capitol and efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election, Pence accused Trump of putting himself over the Constitution, and said a Trump candidacy would serve as a distraction from President Biden's "disastrous" record.

"Today's indictment serves as an important reminder: anyone who puts himself over the Constitution should never be President of the United States," Pence said. "I will have more to say about the government’s case after reviewing the indictment."

34,000 Illegal 2020 Election Ballots Found in Michigan during Forensic Study

Frank BergmanJuly 31, 2023 - 12:51 pm

Tens of thousands of illegal ballots have been found in Detroit, Michigan during an explosive criminal forensic study into the 2020 election results.

Specklin Forensics, a national expert in criminal forensics, completed an investigation into the 2020 election in Michigan and published a report on its findings.

The organization found further evidence of chronic, systemic voter fraud, according to the report.

The fraud exposed was especially among absentee ballots in the controversial 2020 election.

The firm has wide national experience testifying in criminal trials.

During its investigation, Specklin Forensics was allowed limited access to the 2020 ballots in Wayne County, which covers Detroit.

Forensic investigators found:

A significant number of absentees in different precincts illegally had no signed ballot application. Many absentee ballots had no request whatsoever, in the two primary precincts examined the rates of illegal ballots were 12% and 20%.

Absentee ballots often had a lighter tone and shade to the printing. The Detroit clerks even commented to the Specklin team that the type of paper felt different.

If the numbers of absentees missing a ballot request are extrapolated out to the rest of Wayne County, Specklin reports, “with approximately 170,000 AV ballots, the range at 8%-20% would be 13,600 to 34,000 ballots with no application requesting the ballot.”

🗣 𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚: A forensic study into the 2020 Detroit, Michigan election has reportedly found up to 34,000 illegal ballots.

The investigation, conducted by Specklin Forensics, suggests systemic voter fraud, particularly with absentee ballots.

Speckin Forensics says it was hired to “examine and recount the ballots, envelopes, totals tapes, record books, and other documents” from the 2020 election in Detroit.

The investigation included all 134 Absent Voter Counting Boards (AVCBs) and all 503 precincts.

The firm’s team spent a month from April 17th to May 17th at the Detroit Department of Elections, where they were permitted to view, but not touch the ballots.

The DOE staff handled all ballots and assisted in the counting process.

Trump’s D.C. Judge Worked For Law Firm That Employed Hunter Biden, Lobbied For Burisma

https://dailycaller.com/2023/08/01/trump-judge-firm-boies-schiller-flexner-hunter-biden-burisma-tanya-chutkan/

(RELATED: Hunter Biden Warned Devon Archer About Potential FARA Violations Right Before Taking Burisma Board Seat, Emails Show)

— Sean Davis (@seanmdav) August 1, 2023

Shortly after his correspondence with Archer, Biden set up a call with BSF partners including Christopher Boies and Heather King, the emails show.

King communicated with the State Department on behalf of Burisma founder Mykola Zlochevsky and strategized with Burisma on how to handle the press and influence government officials, emails from May 2014 indicate. She suggested Burisma hire professional lobbyists, a PR firm and an investigative research firm to bolster its influence operation, per the emails.

Trump was indicted Tuesday in Washington, D.C. by Department of Justice (DOJ) Special Counsel Jack Smith for allegedly interfering in the 2020 presidential election and his alleged involvement in the Jan. 6th, 2021 Capitol riot. Trump announced the indictment on Truth Social right before the news broke.

“This is nothing more than the latest corrupt chapter in the continued pathetic attempt by the Biden Crime Family and their weaponized Department of Justice to interfere with the 2024 Presidential Election,” the Trump campaign said in a statement.

“President Trump will not be deterred by disgraceful and unprecedented political targeting!”

Imran Awan’s chief sympathizer: The judge who keeps catching the big cases

Judge Tanya S. Chutkan, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Wikipedia

Share Tweet Flip

Tuesday was a big day in terms of court cases with major implications for politics — the interlinked politics at both ends of the National Mall.

Paul Manafort was convicted by a jury on 8 of the 18 counts brought against him by Special Counsel Robert Mueller. None of the counts had any relevance to the 2016 election or Russia.

Michael Cohen, formerly Donald Trump’s lawyer, pled to 8 counts in federal court as well, in a case prompted by the Mueller investigation. None of the counts had any relevance to the 2016 election or Russia.

Not to be overlooked: a District of Columbia Superior Court judge dismissed a defamation lawsuit brought by owners of a Russian bank against dossier author Christopher Steele. This was not a federal case; it was a D.C. Superior Court case, the equivalent of a state-court-level case in the District of Columbia. The judge ruled that, whatever the merits of the dossier itself, Steele’s intentions in supplying material from it to media organizations were not libelous.

Finally, the federal judge presiding over the bank fraud case against Imran Awan, erratic D.C.-area entrepreneur and erstwhile “IT aide” to congressional Democrats, awarded Awan no jail time in his plea deal, explaining that Awan had “suffered enough.”

The last point is what interests us here. The judge in question is Tanya S. Chutkan, an Obama appointee with a rather remarkable history. When she caught the Awan case, numerous commentators observed that she had also had to recuse herself from two separate cases involving Fusion GPS, the opposition research firm behind the Steele dossier — because she somehow ended up with both of those cases. But there’s more to it than that.

Paul Pelosi attacker to appear in court for alleged hammer assault

David DePape's next chance to state his case is a hearing scheduled for Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in San Francisco, with a federal trial set to begin Nov. 13.

A federal grand jury indicted DePape, 42, on November 9 after he allegedly broke into the Pelosi's San Francisco residence and violently attacked House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband.

DePape is accused of attacking Paul Pelosi during an alleged break-in at the House speaker's residence on October 28, stating that he was "sick of the insane f—ing level of lies coming out of Washington, D.C.," and intended to take Nancy Pelosi hostage, according to court documents.

As a result of the attack, which happened shortly after 2 a.m., Paul Pelosi was taken to a local hospital to undergo surgery to repair a skull fracture in addition to other injuries.

DePape is charged with one count of assault upon an immediate family member of a U.S. official with the intent to retaliate against the official on account of the performance of official duties and one count of attempted kidnapping of a U.S. official on account of the performance of official duties.
