Apart from that muzzle and the weirdness going on with the forelegs, the model is growing on me. As long as I don't watch it at full resolution. The voice acting and writing, however, are not.

This is just a simple side show. Hard to love, but I can't hate it in the same way that I probably will for Pony Life. I'll give them that if they try several different shorts and experimental series thats better than just doing one full transition to pony life.

The 3D ponks is probably gauging what works and what doesn't for the 2021 movie.the fact that this doesn't look cheap model wise matches with the idea of it being for a movie only thing.

Honestly it feels like the movement comes from a lack of budget or something, its just jerky; the actual movements are fine, Though it could probably use better fake smears.
The models themselves just have some suspect texture to them, lighting doesn't help with the plastic look.

The question is, can they make cartoon-y movements looks good in 3D? I don't remember any recent 3D cartoons/movie that did this except Ice Age but Ice Age did have a… malleable characters.

Cartoony movements are possible even with more extreme things like sudo anime with the recent guilty gears and such as an examplea full movie of that would probably be way too expensive currently though; but MLP is closer to Ice Age in terms of what it would need to do anyway.
If you actually look at how the model is moving in the video its clearly being stretched and such quite a bit. The model is already quite malleable.
My point was that a lot her of her movements are like 5 frames long and don't leave any sort of after effect, which looks really strange with the smooth animation.
doesn't help that the "base position" is used for way too long, it looks very off for a character to go still and then move at the speed of fuck

It's very offputting. I agree that there maybe some potential with it, but it ultimately looks in a weird mid ground bad but not awful. It be interesting if they can develop the style though I don't have much faith in hasbro. It's actually 3D? To me it looked like claymation… but then I wasn't paying that much attention. And honestly these days 3D is probably cheaper than hiring sculptors to do claymation anyway.
