Has it been implied in official material pony wings are actually feathered?

776a6a (1) No.293930>>293935

didn't scootaloo get one of her feathers plucked off once?

>>293930

For the love poison, yes. Not sure what else those wings would be made of.

Yes, Rainbow Dash said as much in "Sonic Rainboom" when she was comparing her "plain old feathered wings" to Rarity's butterfly wings.

This. Pegasus is a being from Greek mythology that resembles a horse with, you guessed it, giant bird wings. Birds have feathers, ya dunce. The question you should be asking is:

>Where do the feathers end and the fur begins?

when a pegasus uses a wing as a 'hand' the individual pinions are splayed far enough apart to be clearly feather-shaped, albeit of stronger, stiffer material than your average feather.

…heh, pinions.

>Where do the feathers end and the fur begins?

Headcanon: pegasus coats are actually made of very fine down, not hair like the other two tribes.

That begs the question, what would happen to Twilight's coat once she got wings?

A better question is how is possible for pegasus to fucking fly?

Magic, duh. Remember when Tirek stole their magic and they fell out of the sky?

In my fanfic I assume they're separate genes, each with multiple alleles … wings/no-wings, flight-magic/flightless.

Consider Scootaloo. She can't fly, but is old enough she should be able to by now.

All we need to complete this image, is a flying earth pony who has inherited flight magic but doesn't have wings.

Of course there's new-main-char, who can fly by magic, but she's not exactly an earth pony. She is earthbound though, right…? Who's with me!?

> stopped reading

You should learn to skip over, like how I do with cursing or sex in novels. You'll lose a bit of the context but more of the story. That way you can respond sounding like a well reasoned, rounded and healthy individual without having to injure your delicate psyche with the proof that other people think thinks about stuff.

86cdee (5) No.294802

>>294753

>That begs the question

Moderately sure you're using that wrong. Unless you mean to say

>"it's obvious Twi's coat regressed into light down because she has wings, duh "

Which needs better sources than you begging the question.

Saging for grammar OT discussion.

No I have to agree with >>294799

No part of your fanfic concerns anyone else in this discussion.

While magic is what allows pegasi and even griffons to fly, it is also what allows them to walk on and/or otherwise interact with clouds.

This tells us several interesting things, including that magic isn't a pony only thing. Griffons can also walk on clouds and have far too small wings for their size to fly unassisted.

Also, despite the magic, their wings are still important, since pegasi do have to use their wings to fly.

Other interesting things to note is that scoots can still use her wings to push herself forward, while standing. The direction of the push generated by her wings is completely at odds to their orientation though. Since she's standing up, flapping her wings should push her backward (upward if her spine was horizontal, but she's standing up on her scooter when she uses this) , yet it accelerates her forward with a considerable amount of force. Enough to push herself, her scooter, her cart and several ponies and whatever else is in the cat, fast enough to jump considerable distances. She has also walked on clouds in the show.

The conclusion is that Scootaloo clearly has whatever magic it is that pegasi use to fly, yet she still cannot fly.

If you want theories, maybe its to do with the wings? Another guess would be that there could be more than one magical force involved in pegasus flight. For example, if magic A lets pegasi walk on clouds, magic B increases the greatly magifies what force their wings produce and magic C that changes their bodies mass to allow them to be light enough to fly at times or to be heavy enough to interact with other objects like they normally do (pushing or lifting things forexample). The solution to the mystery of why scoots can't fly is that she may be naturally deficient in one or more of the magical forces required to pull off flight.

>>294745

Its clearly only their wings that are covered in feathers. They're not fucking birdheaded griffons

86cdee (5) No.294804

ya broke th' index, Anon!

Posting hoping this un-breaks it and I can see your 15th response…

3bec83 (1) No.294837

>>294773

Perhaps they were at one point able to fly without the aid of magic, but their wings have since become vestigial. In any case, they would need a wingspan of at least twice the length of their body for their wings to actually work.

704cc4 (1) No.294851>>294852

Maybe the magic alone isnt enough to let them fly, just enough to make it so their wings can handle the rest, so with Scootaloo's wings being fucked up she still cant fly.

62013f (3) No.294852

>>294851

If this is the case, how can scootaloo still generate enough force with just her wings to accellerate herself, her scooterthingy and the cart with several ponies in it, fast enough to get air time when hitting a ramp?
