I was good friends with Todd Morgan at Graceland…. he was theunusually nice, cool as shitCreative Director for EPE…
Todd and I were in discussions about an epic Elvis biopic for 3 or 4 years back in the 90s…
We were working on atreatment on a screenplaywith a working title IN A FLASH….
Todd offered me a job as Art Director at Graceland, a job that I turned down (lol after he flew me back into Memphis from Neptune Beach, Florida where I lived with Debi, my wife from Sweden)
Ours was a much more "warts and all" version of the story….
I've been doing Elvis portraits for celebrities since I was 12… you would think I'm lying if I told you the complete list of celebs whom ive painted Elvis for, hung out with, and who I've had long detailed discussions with about Elvis.. (for example, Jay Leno told me some ==eye opening behind-the-scenes Elvis secrets=, as well as dozens of other celebs who shared their own stories with me…
Todd Morgan verified some of the stories I had heard, and debunked others, but Todd told me THE MOST REVEALING, personal, extremely private secrets about Elvis
Most of these secrets that I know will never be divulged, due to their sensative private nature…
But Todd and I were including a lot of these unknown secrets into our screenplay, all of them 100% true, and all of them adding to the true understanding of the real human behind the image…
Unfortunately, Todd had a massive heart attack and died… since it was just Todd and I working on the project, there was nobody else at Graceland that I liked, the screenplay project also died…
I became a GIGANTIC Elvis enthusiastic at age 12, during my LSD Experimentation…..
LSD taught me many valuable things about myself, but the two that REALLY played a major role in my life were:
CATS AND ELVIS
When I first heard about this new film being greenlighted back before COVID, back when it was first announced that Austin Butler was chosen, I was worried sick about it… I fretted and fussed and stressed out, simply because I had been working on the screenplay with Todd many years ago…
I went with great apprehension….
And within the first 15 seconds, I was blown away…
It did NOT have the "insider secrets" of our screenplay, (although Baz did include Gladys' alcoholism, yet he omitted her amphetamine addiction and bipolar disorder/manic episodes where she'd smash up furniture, etc) but in retrospect, perhaps it's best that those details be saved for The Memphis Mafia movie….
(it would require 300 individual movies to cover the full story, because There were so many multi layered multi faceted aspects to the story, And each individual relationship could compose its own lengthy tale)
This new film Was specifically about the relationship between colonel Tom and Elvis, But a movie about the Memphis mafia would show a lot The unknown secret stories I'm talking about)
Great film….. seen it 3 times, and going to buy it…
