Raskin says Jan. 6 panel has found more on Trump than ‘incitement’

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) on Monday said the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol has found evidence on former President Trump that supports “a lot more than incitement.”

The comment from Raskin, a member of the Jan. 6 panel, referenced Trump’s second impeachment in January 2021, when the House voted to impeach the then-president for incitement to insurrection.

The Jan. 6 panel is set to hold its first public hearing on Thursday, where Raskin said the committee will lay out information regarding individuals who played a role in the attack --- including Trump.

“The select committee has found evidence about a lot more than incitement here, and we’re gonna be laying out the evidence about all of the actors who were pivotal to what took place on Jan. 6,” Raskin said during an interview with Washington Post Live.

Trump was impeached in the House by a 197-22 vote, with 10 Republicans joining all Democrats in sanctioning the president. The following month, however, the Senate acquitted him in a 57-43 vote. Seven Senate Republicans joined the entire Democratic caucus in voting to convict.

Raskin on Monday told The Washington Post Live that this week’s hearing will “tell the story of a conspiracy to overturn the 2020 presidential election and block the transfer of power.”

Asked if Trump is at the center of that conspiracy, Raskin said “I think that Donald Trump and the White House were at the center of these events.”

“That’s the only way really of making sense of them all,” he added.

He noted, however, that “people are going to have to make judgments themselves about the relative role that different people played.”

The Maryland Democrat then pointed to Trump’s second impeachment, in which Raskin was the lead manager of the Senate trial.

“Of course the House and the Senate in bicameral and bipartisan fashion have already determined that the former president, Donald Trump, incited an insurrection by majority votes in the House and the Senate,” Raskin said.

“Although, Donald Trump wasn’t convicted by the requisite two-thirds majority, but commanding majority found that he had in fact incited this insurrection,” he added.

DHS and Intel Community Media Outlets Proactively Move to Defend Dominion Voting Systems Ahead of Report on Electronic Election Hardware Issues Coming This Week

The timing is not coincidental. A 100-page report on electronic voting systems, by University of Michigan computer scientist J. Alex Halderman, remains under seal in a federal court in Atlanta as an outcome of election integrity lawsuits surrounding the Dominion voting system. That report is rumored to be released soon, perhaps as early as this week.

In what appears to be a proactive move to get out ahead of identified voting system irregularities specific to the electronic voting systems, the Dept of Homeland Security, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (DHS-CISA), updated the election page on their website [SEE HERE] under the “Rumor Control” section. DHS made the update on May 27, 2022, last week.

The very next day, May 28, 2022, The Washington Post produces an article [SEE HERE] describing an upcoming DHS-CISA 5-page memorandum that is in the process of being sent to the states ahead of a public release.

With the WaPo being the outlet of choice for the intelligence community & security state, it appears they received an advanced copy to help establish an early response effort.

Within The Post article, “there are nine flaws affecting versions of the machine called the Dominion Voting Systems Democracy Suite ImageCast X, according to a copy of an advisory prepared by CISA and obtained by The Washington Post.” The article then goes immediately to downplay the problems. “The flaws, many of which are highly technical and which mostly stem from machine design as opposed to coding errors, generally require an attacker to have physical access to the devices or other equipment used to manage the election, CISA said.”

[…] CISA’s five-page advisory is based in part on Halderman’s 100-page report, which remains under seal in a federal court in Atlanta. The advisory is expected to be released next week after officials in all 50 states are notified.

CNN then picks up the baton from the Washington Post, and they too tell their audience not to worry about any pesky evidence of election system vulnerabilities. The professionals in charge of things have assured us there’s no problems and everything is fine. After all, it would be far too difficult, and too many people would be involved, for there to be actual tampering and fraud in the use of the electronic systems.

(Via CNN) -- Federal cybersecurity officials have verified there are software vulnerabilities in certain ballot-marking devices made by Dominion Voting Systems, discovered during a controversial Georgia court case, which could in theory allow a malicious actor to tamper with the devices, according to a draft analysis reviewed by CNN.

The vulnerabilities have never been exploited in an election and doing so would require physical access to voting equipment or other extraordinary criteria standard election security practices prevent, according to the analysis from the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.

But because the subject is Dominion voting equipment, which has been the target of conspiracy theorists who falsely claim there was large-scale fraud in the 2020 election, federal and state and local officials are bracing for election deniers to try to weaponize news of the vulnerabilities ahead of midterm elections.

“While these vulnerabilities present risks that should be promptly mitigated, CISA has no evidence that these vulnerabilities have been exploited in any elections,” reads the draft CISA advisory, which the agency shared in a briefing with state and local officials on Friday. (read more)

Israel heading to elections, Knesset to disband, Lapid to become prime minister

Israel will be entering its fifth election in 3 and a half years * Earlier in the day, the government defeated two votes of no confidence

Israel will head to its fifth election in three-and-a-half years, after Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Alternate Prime Minister Yair Lapid gave up Monday on their efforts to stabilize the coalition.

In a joint statement, Bennett and Lapid said that they will bring a bill to dissolve the Knesset to a vote next Monday. This means that elections will likely be held on October 25.

Sources close to Bennett said the duo's goal was to initiate an election on their own terms and not be forced out by opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu.

According to the coalition agreement, Lapid will become caretaker prime minister until the election and until the new government comes into power. He is set to greet US President Joe Biden when he comes to Israel next month.

At a Knesset press conference, Bennett said his move to initiate an election was "not easy" but "the right decision." He said he did everything possible to maintain the government for longer.

"Believe me, we left no stone unturned," he said.

He wished Lapid well, calling him a "mensch" and vowing to ensure a smooth transition of power.

Lapid praised Bennett, for "putting the country before his personal interest" and said their friendship overcame obstacles. He called Bennett "a vital Israeli leader, innovative and brave" and said he had no doubt that his place is in the leadership of this country for many years to come.

"A year ago we started the process of rebuilding, and now: we're carrying it on and carrying it on together," Lapid said. "What we need to do today is go back to the concept of Israeli unity, not to let dark forces tear us apart from within. Bennett challenges

Bennett spoke on Friday to Attorney-General Gali Baharav Myara who told him that the West Bank emergency bill could not be bypassed or extended beyond it's June 30 deadline. Because they had no way to pass the bill, Bennett and Lapid decided that it would be better to dissolve the Knesset, which automatically extends the security regulations in the West Bank.

Justice Minister Gideon Sa'ar blamed the downfall of the government on "irresponsible behavior by Knesset members in the coalition." He said the goal of the next election would be to prevent Netanyahu from returning to power and "mortgaging the country to his own personal interest."

There is still a chance that Netanyahu will succeed in forming an alternate government within the current Knesset. This would happen if members of the coalition - from New Hope and Yamina - switch sides and join Netanyahu's right-wing bloc.
