In the last few years, before the latest crisis, thousands of Rohingya made perilous journeys out of Myanmar to escape communal violence or alleged abuses by the security forces.

I've been to Myanmar a few times, back when it was under military rule the first time.
I loved it. Soldiers and their transport vehicles were always present but they were always friendly.
In Myanmar I learned that an army can establish peace and trust as well as security.
American Founding Fathers were concerned that the military would quash liberty as the British Army did. Not sure how to reconcile this.
Myanmar and far Northern Laos are the safest, most relaxed places I've ever been.
