But I don't believe that it is God. By "God" I am referring to those omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent deities mentioned in religions.

Those things that are supposed to be controlling everything, sending people who follow particular scriptures to heaven and those who don't to hell.

I think it is necessary to first establish what it means to believe or not believe in a God. This is how I will define it. Both theists and atheists believe in a higher power - the laws of nature. The difference is that theists believe nature is anthropomorphic. They believe it is sentient; it has intelligence, emotions and a sense of purpose. It can be reasoned with, bargained with, pleaded with. Atheists believe that nature is a dead machine. I realize that this is a metaphysical question and so there can never be perfect certainty. However, from what I know about physics, I think the latter seems more likely.

I think atheism can be attributed to human arrogance. When you’re an atheist, you believe that humans possess the highest form of consciousness in existence. I’m also not an agnostic because I can’t say that God’s existence is forever unknowable. That seems close-minded and maybe even unscientific to say that we can’t ever know about God.

We should also learn about non-Abrahamic religions and philosophies. Platonism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism etc. They have insights to share.

Just moments ago myself and 12 friends saw something…horrifying. We all decided to have a campfire tonight, try to destress ourselves because of everything that is happening and our fear of a Bidden presidency. We brought a little wine and beer but only enough for a bit of a buzz and nothing more. Then the night went weird we started hearing weird sounds and the world seemed to be under a blanket muffling all sounds. I am typing this as fast as possible. The girls are still screaming hysterically and crying nonstop like Ive never heard anyone cry before. All the guys including myself are also crying in uncontrolable and what can only be described as inescapable fear. Unlike the weirdness that started earlier everyone here experienced this.

A dark black shadow of a man rose from the ground solid as can be, like mist solidifying instantly as it left the ground. It ended up appearing to be about double the hieght of my buddy Mike who is 6'6" tall so close to 13' tall and it was EVIL. It absorbed all light and heat of the campfire and the temperature dropped at least 20 degrees, it began raining ice cold and a breeze started to swirl all around us making the cold even more unbearable. You could hear everyone gagging even I gagged, as all ability to scream, cry, yell, whatever, was taken from us. For all appearances the black shadow was human male of forminable build, a fucking chad for lack of better tetminology. Just no detail was avaiable due to its blacker than black color. It said something to us in a crystal clear and hypnotic voice it said something about us being among the witnesses, that we would see the world and everything in it die family, friend, and neighbor as no one will remain untouched. Then it was like it was never there at all. Its still raining ice water out of nowhere and the swirlung breeze had continued. Im typung this grouped tightly with my friends because we arw all too terrified right now to move. I cant believe this is happening to me!

I simply don't see how inventing a sentient being explains anything, particularly the fact that we among other living creatures are sentient. You're simply kicking the can down the road. The fact that I'm a sentient creature must require that there be some greater sentient creature to create me. But then you have an even more difficult problem explaining the sentience of your god and where that came from. At that point you retreat into vague mysterious evocations of his greatness, a greatness that is so great that it's incomprehensible. You could have just as easily skipped that stage and simply regarded our own rather concrete existence as incomprehensible and left it at that since inventing a diety evidently doesn't ultimately explain the existence of sentience or intelligence or life at all. Fact is we don't even know precisely what life is. We can say that a bacteria is alive. I think most will agree to that. But is a virus alive, is a prion alive? I don't think we can say that prions are alive, but we're not sure yet.
