So I don't know half shit about philosophy, and I wish I did.

What the fuck is the Ubermench? Something about it just seems inconsistent.

>So I don't know half shit about philosophy, and I wish I did.

look at this recommendation >>3017

as for the ubermensch, i havent read Nietzsche yet but im sure one of the resident nietzcheboos around here can answer whatever questions you have about him, ONCE you explain what you find inconsistent about it.

So, the deal with this guy is because everything is to blame on the church, humans have become dependant of a "nihilistic point of view", not allowing them to fully grow as a species.

Then he explains that the Ubermench must be a man who rejects that theory and creates his own.

However, at the same time he mentions Jesus as posible example of the Ubermench.

Is just kinda weird.

>So I don't know half shit about philosophy, and I wish I did.

I'd recommend you watch some School of Life videos. I'm not going to drop 20,000 books on you, or some shit because that's pretty ineffective. The best way to start you off would be just watching a few short videos that will get you intrigued

>What the fuck is the Ubermench? Something about it just seems inconsistent.

Watch video related. It'll explain everything.

>everything is to blame on the church

No, our mentality and natural urge for power is demonised and crippled by moralistic schools of thought born from ressentiment, of which the christian faith is a prime example.

It helps to formulate precicely, because once you do you'll see that 'Jesus' is as different from the Sheeple (Herdenmensch, literally "Herd-people") as a leader is to a follower.

and what will someone elses interpretation do for him, other than give him phrases to say to make him sound smart?

It will at least get him interested in philosophy.

You can't just get someone into a genre or something by just telling them READ X especially when pertaining to philosophy.

I personally have a problem with this philosophy, because I lean left. I feel there will not be enough philanthropy from sociopaths who tend to reach the peak of power without coercion or pressure from society. Power corrupts, and I don't trust supermen to be kind and fair without external pressure.

werked for me : ^ ) except no one told me to read anything, i just started reading it on my own.

going back to what you said as far as recommendations go

> implying telling him to read Thus Spake Zarathustra will actually do anything

of course it wont, you have to start with the greeks. but this is the same kind of person who already knows the answer to his question more or less, and is only asking in hopes that there is some shortcut to understanding that he is unaware of, because reading books is hard.

Oh, you're right. In this line of thinking, philanthropy is at best represented through sage guidance or the mercy of a tyrant, i.e. always 'from above' (through power of some kind) or 'from within' (through a fairly coincidental character disposition).

The notion of external pressure being useful to 'bully' people into doing 'good' things (in this case help the weak and unfortunate) is the very one Nietzsche thoroughly opposes. Naturally you'd find it disagreeable. It's also a pillar of leftist thought that isn't very easy to argue for.

I'm not a Nietzschean, by the way.
