How do they 'destroy' themselves? How is a life of (generous but not extreme) alcohol consumption and (frequent but protected/controlled) intercourse inherently inferior to a life of abstinence? You seem to already have a moralistic stance and a clear view on degenerancy. If you could, please elaborate further on that.
As for your question, I'm not qualified to answer because I don't like alcohol and I'm asexual. But, in case it's of interest, I can say that I'm never quite sure how much of this is my active doing and how much is simply in my nature (I'm very resistent to group pressure, for example, because I don't care about people who value such things as conformity above all else).
That said, a restrained life is definitely easier than one that is not, but that depends on how strong your urges are. Constantly surpressing a primordial force ready to erupt is probably not very healthy both physically and mentally. If you're serious, then avoiding situations in the first place is the best course of action.
Incidentally, sexuality isn't very present in everyday life if you don't actively look for it. Alcohol is more ritualised, but I suspect it's easier to abstain from, too. Good luck to you.

Kierkegaard a shit.
Now now, there's no need for that.
