How are interacial couples(bm/ww) so comfortable/smug prancing around in public?

With all this tension rising in terms fo race relations and white men more blunt with their verbal and sometimes physical abuse in response to black male/white female relationships, how are some of these same couples so SMUG and easy going in regular public settings.
I am a black man currently with a white girl much younger than I am and whenever we go on dates I make sure it's something where we are out of site out of mind, either a home date or at a movie. I don't dare take her infront of a white guy with everything that's going on today, it's like poking the bear and when conflict starts up and the federal government falls I dont want to be the guy they remmeber seeing with a white girl. Yet when I go out I see bm/wf couples going about so non chaulauntly as if white men couldn't just go all in their shit one day and own them.
