If the press and internet isn't put in full blackout mode, it'll definitely be fully reworked into state-run media. Any remaining active-duty law enforcement officers, armed forces members, and government doorkickers will be told it's a "sweeping counteroffensive against the subversive elements that have torn this country apart" (or some other such nonsense), thus ensuring a majority don't go AWOL and added to their Send-To-The-Camps list. Any openly organized militias on all sides will be raided, alongside gun sellers and owners that have tons of registered weapons. At the same time, political activists and "dissidents". This will all happen in a matter of days or weeks. It will be spun as legal and justified police actions meant to bring about the stability and security that John and Jane Public, starving and scared as they will be, will crave. Unbeknownst to them, while Johnny Reb and his friends are out clapping feds and blasting convoys, they'll be branded as terrorists and radical nationalists. With the support of the general public and their allies overseas, they'll set in motion more sweeping legislature that kills the American public's Constitutional rights once and for all. The separatists will be pushed to the dark corners of large cities and remote backroads, forcing a Yugoslav Wars-style war between government forces and any opposing factions, which may also at any point fight each other. This goes on until full victory or subjugation is achieved for either side; this is total ideological war, and neither side will be willing or able to concede or yield.
