I never liked Autechre. Their music has too little going on and what's there is unstructured and unfocused. A lot of their discography suffers from being too long and repetitive also.

That depends heavily on what you prefer and/or expect.

Some might better like electronic music akin to The Prodigy's new (crappy imho tbh) album (which desperately tries to hearken back to their 90s heyday but mostly fails with its pififully short and uninspired tracks).

Anything similar to Basscadet or Lowrider, amber is still good but more Oniric and not as energetic

Stopped caring about them a long time ago, when Exai was released. I hoped there would be an evolution to their sound, Oversteps promised that but then they just rejected that sound and came back to the old boring random noise.

LP5 will always be their best

If Autechre started today they wouldn't have gotten popular, they just happened to get into the electronic music scene early enough to be considered pioneers.

They're a one trick pony with their fast and glitchy beats.

What about afx/rdj? Is he really any better than them in that regard? For all the reverence he receives, his career has been quite uneven and most of his releases arguably hit-and-miss in spite of apparent general consensus.

Maybe. I don't know. Autechre is still some of the most alien music I've listened to.

They weren't really pioneers though, the Barrons were pioneers. By the time most contemporary 80's and 90's electronic artists started the genre had already existed for 30 years.
