I really like synthwave, but a lot of it isn't doesn't even sound like it came out of the '80s. I also just find all the neon imagery and cyberpunk influence tired at this point.

I avoided hair metal for a long time because of the old stigmas it has tied to it, but after listening to it I don't understand why people seem to hate it so much.

Scenefag mentality mostly. Or kids that read Prozak's articles and now declare Incantation to be the greatest death metal band of all time

Is this even possible to think such thing? "Onward to Golgotha" is up there with "None so Vile" in the most overrated turds of all time category.

Yeah, it's definitely a scenester mentality. Back when I first started listening to metal I bought into the "true metal" mindset and avoided anything considered to be poseur music. Even then I realized that the ANUS guys were aptly named considering how up their own asses they are. For as much as the metal scene likes to tout its alleged emphasis on non-conformity, it's filled with self-important dorks who care way too much about adhering to the norms of their gay social scene. I bet it's gotten even worse since SJWs have started trying to co-opt metal for their own ends.

As much as people praise grunge for allegedly killing hair metal, at least hair metal was fun and unpretentious. I do like grunge (as well as some of the first wave of post-grunge), but that crowd comes across as being largely a bunch of holier-than-thou faggots who thought they were too intellectual for those filthy plebeians and their party music.

Nah, dadrock is the basically the '60s and '70s rock that has traditionally made up the core playlist of "classic rock" radio stations. Think of the music that boomer sitcom dads are enamored with. Dads listen to '80s and '90s rock now, but dadrock is more than just rock dads like.

I've heard of plenty of people referring to the Big Four as "dadrock" for a while now, perhaps it's time for a new term to be coined? Dadmetal? Because even those who were just ten when the likes of AJFA or SFSGSW released are now 40, as hard as that is to believe.

Kinda the same way I felt about grindcore at 19 or 20 despite being largely leftist like the rest of the metal scene. Also there's literally nothing wrong with dadrock unless you're a zoomer or in your "fuck you dad" phase

"Dadmetal" to me means the earliest bands that were labeled as heavy metal, and that means there's a huge overlap with the term "dadrock." The dividing line for me is the rise of punk rock and the NWBHM. I'd consider the early Judas Priest albums dadmetal but not stuff like British Steel, Screaming for Vengeance, and Defenders of the Faith. It doesn't even necessarily come down to direct influence, either. Steve Harris has been vocally anti-punk, yet Iron Maiden's material felt a bit punkish (especially during the Paul Di'Anno days) despite supposedly not being inspired by it.

I don't know what name of that type I'd give to the classic extreme metal bands. It is kind of depressing seeing that bands like Possessed and even the Norwegian black metal guys who started off so young are middle-aged men now.

Nope.

>Kinda the same way I felt about grindcore at 19 or 20 despite being largely leftist like the rest of the metal scene.

Goregrind definitely doesn't take itself too seriously a lot of the time, but I have problems mustering up any respect for bands who write lyrics like this:

https://genius.com/Brutal-truth-anti-homophobe-lyrics

I think explicitly political lyrics are tacky in the first place, but these are so faggy I'd have a hard time ignoring them and just focusing on the music.

As far as political grindcore goes, I do really like the first Terrorizer album.

>Also there's literally nothing wrong with dadrock unless you're a zoomer or in your "fuck you dad" phase

I have a strong distaste for a lot of dadrock, but there's nothing inherently wrong with it considering how much ground the term covers in terms of genre. AC/DC are a quintessential dadrock band in a lot of ways (although far from it in others; oddly enough, there were actually people who lumped them in with punk bands in that era), but I really like their stuff with Bon Scott.

You know things are bad when you can't tell whether or not that guy in the screencap is joking or not.

W.A.S.P is one of my favorite bands of the genre, they're dirtier but have that big, big stadion rock sound.

>*Renders all hair metal bands like Van Halen, Motley Crue and Bon Jovi obsolete overnight*

How did he do it, /mu/? What was the secret to Kurt Cobain & Nirvana's ultimate rise to success? Was it just out of chance or was it just MTV and Radio stations all over the U.S mass shilling 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'? 'Nevermind' caused the formation of the Grunge music scene and practically clean sweeped the music scene at the time and is one of the main factors if not the reason why Hair Metal died off.

It kind of does. They're not really a hair metal band but it would be a shame if this one was missing.

>>102742

I will never stop to be amazed by the playing.

>>102738

I hated Grunge and I still do. And when those bands became successful, it made their whole message seem hypocritical. This is obviously something that can never happen to hair metal bands as they don't care to be that self-import in the first place as their message was simply to get high and have sex.

Soundgarden and U-Men and Skinyard and The Melvins were good. Mudhoney too. but aside from 'Bleach' Nirvana weren't that important to me. but I get your gist considering so many bands that were anti-corporate and anti-establishment became the establishment until the rise of Britpop, which never hid its rockstar ambitions burgerland Grunge did. The Stone Roses were a bit grungy but I never heard of them complain a bit about fame.

Yeah there were good bands to come out of the whole thing after all, the ones that were crossing over to stoner rock employing more Black Sabbath style riffs.
