Does a regular/first-time playthrough have just enough Flowey in it, or should there have been more between the beginning and the ending?

Yes, but was it a good thing or a bad thing that we saw so little of him? Aside from occasional popups while backtracking an area, the most he has before Asgore is when Sans tells you about Papyrus talking to flowers, and I thought that nod to him was good.

Flowey is the character who sows the seed of doubt in the player's mind, which was very important for the game. I can't decide if it was for better or worse that he has so little presence - whether it's in actual appearances or simple nods by other characters - in the middle section of the game.

It all probably had to do with how the game engine change to Game Maker didn't allow manual editing.
