You're right, I'm not a big fan of the modern military shooter, but I'm a fan of Doom and Timesplitters.
I'll tell you what, this Doom game is actually really good. It feels a lot like the older Doom games, which is a good thing if you ask me.
The only thing is that, so far, I've found it a little bit on the easy side, and I'm playing on the hardest difficulty available from the start. There's a melee kill move which is OP has heck, especially once you get the chainsaw.
All in all, I really like it.

speaking of Doom what I find sweet are the Doomguy figs scattered around the maps. what I don't like (based on what i've seen so far) is that there's a upgrade system for weapons (not the upgrades that give alternative shoots to weapons, those are cool)

You're right, especially if you can't notice the difference. As much as I liked Far Cry, the whole levelling system put me off the games. I just don't want to look around for different varieties of grass and deer to make things, and I certainly don't want to go through those tech trees.
