Here's an example. They just skip the 4th floor in naming conventions. Japan too used to have similar superstitions, but not as much nowadays compared to the WWII-era.
It's because 4 (shi) sounds like death (死; shi) in both languages.

Thanks for reminding me of an event that took place while I was waiting for a connecting flight to Dubai at some random airport in Kazakhstan. It was bloody freezing and all the passengers were made to wait in a hanger or something. It's just that someone selling tea for a living on an airport probably isn't very smart to begin with. She was a simple person who knew and could recognize one thing, dollars. She likely couldn't find the UK on a map, let alone recognize The Queen, so she didn't want to get cheated if it turned out you were lying and were giving her a worthless currency.
Borat was actually filmed in Romania, and Romania looks more or less the same as Bulgaria, so Borat is probably representative of slums here more than anywhere else. I should watch it some day and get a few laugh.

I was just sitting here getting ready to make another post when I spotted a spider crawling across the carpet. It was a bit bigger than they usually are here, black with a white mark on its back.
