The movie was amazingly bad. The concept was interesting, the character set-up was great, the character roles were great, but they shit the bed with info dumping over developing their bonds and character depth. Almost all the suits were rehashes in an incredibly lazy way. The animation seemed off the first half of the movie. I don't regret seeing it in theaters, but I wish it would have been a better Gundam movie.

I don't know if that I'd go as far "good", but him being a ridiculous mustache twirling villainous bad guy that his character design implied put a sincere smile on my face when he was chewing scenery throughout the movie
if he was interacting with more traditional Universal Century stuff I'd probably be more annoyed, but on the island of dumb things that Narrative consisted of he worked well enough that I was entertained

No, he's a failed version of Full Frontal, who was probably crazy because he has no soul and a Cyber-Newtype
Just saw the film as well, it seems like they rushed too much in trying to set off the hunt for the Phenex. It seems like a good chunk of the film is flashbacks and the parts with the psycho-frame at the end is over the top. I hope they do better with Hathaway's Flash since that's an adaptation rather than a sequel.

One of the best Gundam movies ever made. Why? Because it actually uses and explores the newtype bullshit in a logical way. Three kids are fucked up because they don't understand Newtypes are drawn to each other. Which then leads to one being butchered while the others are forced into opposite lives but manage to pull themselves together again. The bitchy one shows how utterly corrupt everything is and that even the corruptors of the various factions are just as corrupt as the people they bribe.
Jona makes sense as a character and his desperate and lack of UNDERSTANDING makes him a step above the usual shit. I want to see where he goes after the movie because he now has nothing but Banana is trying to convince him he does. Bananas optimism and Jona's pessimism could lead to interesting stories as an anti-newtype tech unit.
Zolvat was a fun as fuck villian and also completely understandable (hold on edge lords). He was raised on the Neo Zeon newtype labs the same way the Trio were raised on the Titan's newtype labs. He went through the same shit as all of them did but was promised a bright future. He put up with the suffering for that future and then it was denied to him. He was Frost brothers 2.0 and made a grand showing for it. I think the manga will flesh him out to be a better character but he's definitely someone I will enjoy seeing in SRWs and G Gens. He's one of the most understandable psychopaths we've had. And I approve of fucked up Zeon experiment characters. This is ZZ Neo Zeon we're dealing with, they fucked up everyone they touched to make them weapons. Haman didn't give a shit and they're all unstable for it.
Phenex came off nicely. The newtype bullshit it pulls off is to be expected and Unicorn's ending made it clear Newtypes were still acting post Death. This then wrapped up nicely With bitch suiciding to power up the Phenex. A nice call back to Zeta and ZZ. I even liked the motivation for the Phenex and how it was all according to plan right from the start. It was a nice "Beyond the time" meaning what it says instead of just psychic bullshit to wrap up emotional plot lines.
The early movie is all but a kaiju film. Colony drops and MS are monsterous. There's a real sense of horror to the way they behave, especially the NT-D modes and the grinding and screeching they made. Phenex is legit scary until it becomes a heroic unit in the end. Narrative even comes off well but fuck bandai for making it's best form B bandai, the incoms were cool.
This wasn't the movie I expected it to be. But it felt like the logical next step in Unicorn's story. Newtype tech is beyond imagination, it's too powerful for military to use, and too unstable to be given to people. But it still exists so the corrupt elements in the universe will fight over it. Which they did. My only issue is Banagher having the Silver bullet appear for 2 seconds. Pure cash grab when there was no need to give him a special unit or give him the beam magnum at all.
It reminded me of why I enjoyed Gundam and why I haven't enjoyed Gundam like IBO. Yes it's full of newtype bullshit, but that's the timeline at that point. Explaining why people back away from this tech is a story worth telling in Gundam. Exploring the Newtypes in the UC is one of the few avenues left to explore which isn't a rehash. I like it's place in the timeline and I enjoyed the cast. Especially the grunts who did a great job of standing out even next to the narrative. If nothing else at least it wasn't another UNDERSTANDING bullshit and the hero actually suffered immensely for his victory.

Does anyone feel like Unicorn 2 is gonna be about destroying the psycho-frame or the secret behind the technology becoming (ironically) another Laplace's Box that Banagher and Mineva have to keep hidden in the Late UC? That seems to be the direction the UC 100 project is going in.

I'll spoonfeed you.
You don't need to post whole tags, you just need to type two asterisks at that start and end of a sentence.
It won't work between paragraph breaks, though. So while this might work. Something **like this
won't work.**
