Where were you when Nintendo decided to flex on FromSoft by starting their presentation with "totally not Armored Core".

Looks faster though, and despite the whispers of 'deep customisation', I doubt it's near the level of AC.

Still looks neat though.

Thankfully watching it happen and being filled with joy that a proper AC exists by the people who made my fave AC's and that we get another mecha game finally.

It really feels like the sequel to AC Last Raven but with what FromSoft learned from the A.C.E. series with the flying and combining the two along with real time equiping your loot. Neat. Too bad we don't get a more full melee combo going like A.C.E. as well but that's ok.

It looks like a simplified ac4/fa. With the modern grinding mechanics, and hopefully customization. Seems like they're picking up where xenoblade left off.

This gives me a lot of hope. I'm thinking of breaking my golden rule of not preordering anything. Gameplay can break it, though, as it does so many other mecha games.

Anyone played the demo?

It's actually nicer than I thought it would be.

The gameplay they were showing off at E3 looked a little flaccid, but it's actually pretty decent.

Yeah, I'm surprised at how much I like it. It's also surprising that the pilot/foot soldier mechanics don't seem to have gotten in the way of the mech gameplay. But I feel the opposite of the mech/pilot stuff in this game compared to TF2. Like BT's cool and all, but can I just play the pilot, and it's cute that you can use the pilot in DxM, but I'd rather sit inside my mech all day. Though, I suppose we'll have to see what the mech/pilot mission ratio is in the full game. The energy set up they have is almost perfect too, it's just that a totally empty gauge should be more punishing than waiting a few seconds while being able to use your normal boost, and I say that as a huge fag for 4th gen AC. Descending from the air can be awkward and inconsistent with how quickly you can do it, but ascending feels perfect and has a nice punch to it when you use the game's QB equivalent. I also have no idea what to call their fast boost mechanic since it's essentially 4th/5th gen quick and normal boosting mechanics soldered onto old school AC boosting. Funnily enough it also seems better balanced in that regard compared to 4th (too lenient) or 5th gen (too harsh) QB mechanics.

You can get the down booster to fast fall but I hate that it takes up so much “memory”.

Whatever that’s supposed to be.

I imagine it’s meant to be like a generator output mechanic that makes you lose out on stats if you go over capacity or something like that

Thanks for reminding me of the one mechanic that I think is well and truly retarded. Total memory doesn't affect mech performance at all, and if you go over total memory "nothing" happens and you can still sortie and your mech will function normally, a lot like a PLOW build in older AC games. However, you'll notice that your Scout stat has hit rock bottom. I played around a bit to get that stat as high as I can, and Scout seems to be affected largely by Total Memory+Lock Range on the head. So highest Scout possible in game is HW body+Raikiri head+Starter limbs. So what does Scout do? Based on my limited experimenting with the stat, Scout seems to increase the rate of new/rare part drops in game. I'm guessing this is the case, because I was missing one part in the demo (Raikiri LA), and decided to make 2 builds based on scout (1 that had high scout but was fun for me to use, and the highest scout possible build), and use my normal build to try and grind for the part. The highest Scout possible build got me the last part I was looking for.

Honestly, I would rather have weight limits, and parts scattered through the field rather than this random drop+stats that affect it nonsense.

>Survey doesn't have "Giant robots" as most anticipated aspect in question 15.

Really?

>Includes hunting games as a choice in question 16.

That probably explains the scout stat, random part drops and even gianter robots.

Just to show total memory basically does next nothing. Only scout is severely affected, lock time is also affected, but the effect is linear/ not significant enough to be a punishment. If lock time is supposed to be the punishment for total memory, then a lock of 4 to 5+ seconds would be a "detriment". That said it'd be a pretty limited detriment since this is the second easiest AC style game to hold a lock, and also the easiest to lead shots in due to the absence of turn speed. In fact, put this game on PC and you wouldn't even need a lock on mechanic because of that.

Also, a high scout build that's affected by the addition of the aux booster in nearly the same way as the over memory build. The landing recovery seems to be affected a bit more on the over memory build, but again, not enough to where it can seriously be considered a detriment. Also, the high scout build is a far worse performer than the over memory build, so performance suffers more if you build for scout, rather than going over memory.

Play in production order, also if any of the AC games have PSP and PS2 versions then emulate the PSP ones since they have more content. Also you can skip Ninebreaker since it's pure fanservice without plot based on every previous game.

Everything before the PS3 entries can be emulated even on a shitty smartphone.

Now that it is finally on PC, how is the game? I heard mixed opinions, with the main issue being bad pacing (too much cutscenes), a weak presentation, and repetitive gameplay. What is /m/ opinion?

Story is TRASH. No question about it (I suspect time or financial issues caused a lot of content to be cut, or shortened up to meet deadlines, frankly the campaign itself is a frankenstein of like 30 different miniplots that don't go anywhere).

It's fucking pretty. Glorious framerate up to 200 FPS, can almost run excellently on a toaster (read: a decent cheap computer). Mouse aim, which is a BLESSING for a fast paced boosting everywhere kind of game (you can play it slow if you want to as well, fat boy builds DO work).

And all the budget that they had went into the actual combat and gameplay. They skimped on the sound design (bullet guns sound WEAK, no BRRRT here, only pop pop pop). But what is there is polished to an insane degree, I suspect they wanted to add way more given there's a handful of hidden stats (Stealth, STM cooldown after using all of it, and a few other things).

Basically, if you like to play skinner boxes and you like armored core 4/4a (it does have some AC2 and 3 flavor in there with different sights and part destruction) it'll hit the spot. Especially if you're a min-maxing autist. There's 5 levels of attachments to fill up to 3 slots in every single piece of gear. And there's quite a few attachment types.

Maybe I'll give it a spin, sounds OK. I would have preferred if they kept the story to a minimun, just give us a cool setting and let us do some mercs work to pay the bills and tune our mechs. But if the gameplay is good then I think it may be worth it. Thanks for the answer anon.

The story (as in the actual plot) is not actually bad, just the execution.
