Copypasting stuff from you know where, spoilers of course:

———————————–

PM is shown as indecisive and dumb but is willing to work with the US (doing so jndirectly kills him) and even has the SDF stand down at one point when it turns out that two civillians haven't evacuated the area yet

His actions are understandable becausr they have no idea how much of a threat godzilla is until he goes full ideon which is what kills the PM

Germany lets japan use their supercomputers, france helps stall the nume attack, yanks want to nuke but would do so even if this was NY and still help in operation yashiori (it's thanks to their drones that they can get godzilla to waste energy so they can attack him)

Final (fourth) form has the godzilla theme playing

Final showdown had SDF theme

Credits have original versions of both

Also a recurring BGM that has different versions building up as the movie goes on is VERY close to Decisive Battle

It starts playing and i literally laughed going holy shit anno put decisive battle in godzilla

It's not the same though, just te first bits of it repeated forever

operation to freeze godzilla is the yashiori sakusen

Like yashima sakusen

Only yashiori

And Ishihara's english is atrocious

No "tadpole" that i noticed

First form seen is some sort of retarded rat chicken with stumps for arms

Last scrne is closeup of tail tip, it's humanoid shapes (dead people?) reachig for the heavens and I just know there's a famous sculpture it looks like but i'm forgettig shat it was (somehjg to do with dantes inferno?

>Do you think theres some points to those guys that saw the movie and made little articles complaining about the "nationalistic issue" in the last days and citing it as something that could affect foreign views on the movie?

No

Takes the piss out of the left as well but mostly out of dumb conservative politicians

Only bits that could be jnterpretaed that way are

-early on they don't attack godzilla because muh constitution (more poking fun at politicians putting their own interests before other things- they don't want to be the ones to do something with no precedent)

-china and russia are 100% assholes but that's just being true to real life

Felt more like a god warrior than godzilla but i liked him

Everything the SDF throws at him literally can't make a scratch. The only time any damage is done to him is when the yank B2s drop bunker busters on him which damage him once. Up till then he didn't even seem to register anything as a threat and was just waddling around, but after the bunker busters he does his Ideon impersonation and nothing can hit him at all (all the bombs AND bombers are shot down by his fin beams, plus the PM and most of the cabinet are killed by this too).

He can breathe both fire (regular fire) and the purple beam which is a focused version of the fire. The first time he does the fire thing he incinerates a massive area and it's depicted like the city destroyer beam from Independence Day. The purple beams (mouth, fin and tail version) don't burn but cut, basically the same thing as the god warrior beam but without the huge explosions at the end.

They defeat him by throwing drones at him until he runs out of energy, then use train bombs and controlled demolition of skyscrapers nearby to knock him over so they can force-feed him a thing to freeze him.

>Norman England is a life-long Godzilla fan and former reporter for Fangoria magazine who has spent months on “Godzilla” film sets and saw “Shin Godzilla” last month at a special industry screening. He notes a dramatic departure in the new film from the series’ traditional pacifistic stance.

>“This is the first film in the series to go for the jugular in trying to elicit rah-rah support for the military and sympathy for the government,” England says, likening the film’s not-so-subtle nationalism to the blatant flag-waving found in Roland Emmerich’s 1996 sci-fi epic “Independence Day.”

I can SORT of see a really daft person managing to derive "rah-rah support for the military" from this but "sympathy for the government" is plain fucking bullshit.

They take the piss out of Abe. Not even just politicians in general but fucking Abe specifically. The PM puts on blue overalls for the press conferences and such after the first attack. Abe was criticised like fuck after 3/11 when he did just that to act as if he was actually helping out with the recovery when he was just sitting on his ass in a safe place all day every day.

Oh right about the name- It's a Japanese guy (a professor who went missing) who names Godzilla. Gojira is the name of an angry god from his hometown, and he also gave it the English name Godzilla because angry GOD duh. The yanks get hold of his info first so they know the name before Japan. Japan ends up calling it Gojira because Godzilla is hard to pronounce.

>. And despite this he managed to get the full support of JSDF in making this film.

You do realise that the SDF is pretty anti-Abe, right?

The first half of the film (the first attack) is basically a black comedy making fun of Japanese politics (mostly old politicians, but there's also a short bit taking the piss out of dumb college kids who have no fucking idea what they're talking about like SEALDs) and Japanese people in general (evacuation order given, people go up on rooftops to take photos with their phones).

The second half of the film is basically a cross between Godzilla 1954 and God-Warrior in Tokyo.

It's very clearly nothing like the majority of Godzilla films but I felt that it was better than them.

2014 felt more like a Gamera movie to me.

The first Heisei Gamera to be precise.

They're really nothing alike.

But yeah the cinema was empty, though that's really no different from the average film over here. There were about 20-30 people at my showing, there were three children as part of a group (the parents seemed to be friends, and I overheard one telling the kids about how this is the first Godzilla movie in 16 years), one couple (the girl seemed to enjoy it, kept laughing at the politicians), and everyone else was men in their 40s-50s or obvious otaku.

Just want to add that I really liked the soundtrack (aside from the new versions of old tunes and Decisive Battle v2.0-5.0, that theme that was also used in trailers is really good too).

Also there's a lot of creative camerawork.

It's very Anno.

Oh wait it was Kan not Abe, goddamned Japanese revolving door politics (that's another thing brought up in the film, incidentally).

Anyway yeah scratch that, nothing on Abe. But the film's still highly critical of Japanese politics and bureaucracy entirely though

Why do big action movies always try to shove in dumb political bullshit?

He attacks Tokyo gets defeated by the underdog younger bureaucrats that work around the older bureaucrats fuckery. Its implied that its only temporary since at the end humanoid Godzillas come out of Godzilla's tail so they might overtake humanity.
