This. Galbraith, Rawls, Horkheimer, Adorno and Foucault were all active during that time and you can still feel their influence.

Being an autodidact also works. It bears certain risks, of course. You're more likely to commit small but embarassing mistakes than someone who formally studied and your foundational knowledge may be lacking. On the other hand, you also don't run at risk of being indoctrinated, you have to pay little or nothing, and you learn at your own pace. I've been in university too and while it was cool the first two or three years, I wouldn't go back.
