> Venezuela: it's not real socialism but all the protestors are paid drug dealers edition
Top fucking lel. I called it before and it's happened again.
>The economy is still 2/3 private!
>muh 80% private workforce
The first estimate was made around 2010 by it's central bank, so that's nearing 8 years ago, I think it's safe to say that there may have been a change considering all the businesses actively leaving and taking out any investments that they had in Venezuela.
The second one is a nice little tidbit because it leaves out a few details. The unemployment rate in Venezuela is around 20-25% as according to estimates by the IMF. So that's 7 million people unemployed, the average person is probably wondering, well how can that be? Well, a good portion of foreign investment basically withered away with Chavez after his promises that "whatever was private will become national", afterall that's what he did with a good portion of the country's businesses including oil, steel and food distribution businesses (all of which used to be very productive and profitable sectors of the Venezuelan economy) and the real nail in the coffin is all the price controls, the massive inflation, the nationalization of businesses (Which sort of DE-incentivizes people from investing into Venezuela as one would imagine). The employment that does exist in Venezuela is usually something as miniscule as someone selling something on the streets, but even a career such as that has a chance of being nationalized. It's like a Venezuelan friend of mine said "why even work when you get paid shit. you spend less stayin at home than going out". I don't know how the fuck this guy could sit down and say that it was the free market that caused Venezuela's woes, but it's definitely amusing to watch.
I mean, beforehand the free market did a fine job of feeding people of Venezuela but of course then came the nationalization of food. Chavez nationalized pretty much all sugar refineries, farm land and everything in between. Two things occurred: a.) food production decreased under nationalization in a similar fashion to oil output and B.) The government has virtually turned a country with a year-round growing season that would feed millions into a country where people have to either leave the country or resort to the black market just to feed themselves (with some farmers even turning to the black market to feed their own livestock).
But of course let's blame the free market. Fuggin Gabidalists.
