In socialist states, the leader is always deified and almost worshipped. His face is plastered everywhere. The state/government becomes the supreme benefactor. Communism is based on the belief in Darwinism, which is why leftists hate religion so much.

In libertarian societies, such as early America: "One nation under God". The government is subject to the people, whereas communism is about collectivism, we are about individuality and personal responsibilities.
