However, by doing this he limits his market share, especially once conservative groups push for a boycott through bad publicity. I am sure there are competing gym owners in town that are eating this story up and will begin to offer discounts to cops and service men in order to reap the customers this owner turned away.

This. I hope he succeeds. He would if people were more inclined to frequent a gym without cops. Really, fuck cops. There's public workers that are good persons at heart but for cops in the US, that's seldom true.
