It's really as simple as the forces that be shoved equality in the form of miscegenation down everyone's throats so hard that it had ripple effects. Government discriminated against blacks, Mexicans, Irish, etc. for so long it was embedded into society, government pushed through equality to try to fix their own fuckup, government proceeded to push miscegenation to make people swallow the equality cock they refused to gobble down, and then the whole gay frogs thing happened. If a government doesn't have some issue to attack, people start questioning why the fuck they're paying taxes for those things, so they always come up with a new problem. It's why governments and NGOs come up with entirely new goals from whatever their initial benchmarks they fulfilled were, because if they don't, they get their funding cut. Too many people drank the "we all bleed the same blood" koolaid and basically that was the argument that gays used to try to get people to approve their lifestyle. The whole "we just want to be married like everyone else (and fuck a dozen dudes in our "open relationship lol")." Government couldn't go after the gays after discovering GRID was actually AIDS, and basically the gays hopped on the bandwagon when the "we are equal" crowd started shouting "we are more equal than you" to the people keeping this damn country running, leading to the current mess.
tl;dr- The government doesn't give a rat's ass about LGBT since they aren't reproducing and they tend to just be a tax drain. What they care about is that being anti-gay is effectively the same as saying "we are not equal" and you can't fucking do that. It's the same reason people get super fucking heated whenever you question the out of Africa theory or holocaust, or when you mention to a NEETSoc that Germany never had an international empire like the rest of Europe did, and in fact the Nazi fiscal policy would have led to economic collapse if not for the war delaying that approach.
