Are you sure it's too late? I bet she'd be flattered that you looked her up again because you really wanted a chance to be with her. I've done that before, after I realized I had been too blind to notice that this girl liked me.

Anyway, the warmest I've felt was saying 'I love you' and knowing that I meant it! Pretty boring, huh?

> I bet she'd be flattered that you looked her up again because you really wanted a chance to be with her.

The thing is I'm not really actually attracted to her, she was just the kind of person who made everyone around her happy. She actually offered to meet up with me not too long after school ended but I was away kayaking at the time so it never happened. I found out after leaving that there were rumours that we liked each other, that I was completely oblivious to.

But anyway, what my post was really about was just being in the art room, all the time in the world as the rain pattered and it was just calm, comfy and happy. The atmosphere is what I miss, and the circumstances which allowed it are no longer possible.

>when I was in school and I would always make people laugh all the time even when it got me in trouble, and I remember thinking 'Life isn't so bad if these people like me'

I visited Belize some years ago. I had a planned trip. One of the planned stays I made was in a Mennonite community, where they were primarily rice farmers. There was a non-Mennonite guy who owned some land deep in the rural area, up on a fairly large hill/bluff of sorts, and when I showed up he wasn't there. I found out he was sick but stayed for a day anyways.

The entire place was empty. Empty, quiet buildings. Not a sound to be heard except nature. On the edge of this bluff he had a swinging bench that overlooked the rice fields and general Mennonite community. Serene grey afternoon with a slight breeze. Land just extended into the horizon and I could see birds flying about another bluff some ways away. Probably the only time I've actually felt truly free and truly unburdened. Tears welled into my eyes.

Belize had some other comfy locations if anyone would like to hear about them.

>be a year ago

>at an interview with a lady for a thing

>lady (who knows me for a whole 3 minutes) says I have something noble in my voice

>she actually calls it noble

I mean, I don't know if she thought much about saying that but it hit hard, in a good way, i couldn't stop thinking about it for like, a month.

alright. I can only speak for Belizean countrysides and smaller towns. I didn't visit the capital. It's this weird, developing nation caught in between idyllic common sense, and modern corruption. Anyways. Sorry for incoming long/blog post. Writing it more for myself than anything. I know I've forgotten lots of parts of this trip.

some neat things:

>Martz (Martinez) Farm

This guy (Joe Martinez) has a horse farm, which he opened to tourists. It's nestled near the edge of some forest, and the visitors sleep in treehouses equipped with queen size beds and spend time with Joe and his family amongst other activities. They use electricity sparingly here, so you have to use candles for light, and you use a bucket on a rope to get water from a spring below the treehouses.

The treehouse was nice but I remember this guy's family more than anything.

Joe is a stout bearded Belizean man, maybe 5'10" with a proud gut (but he's not fat). A friendly but hardened fellow.

His wife, Miriam, is well educated and one of those calm, soothing sorts of people.

He had an energetic son. Don't actually remember his name, just called him Cheetah because he was this joyful little kid quickly running around everywhere.

His daughter Selva was 11 at the time I think. Pretty, energetic young girl, and really intelligent and weirdly mature to boot. She was pretty bossy and took a liking to me for some reason even though I'm a pretty slow moving laid back fellow. She would always take my hand and pull me around the property as I groaned but this was the best part of the trip.

You ate dinner with them by candlelight. He also had Joe Mayo there, like of Mayo Clinic lineage. Joe had been staying with them for years, and had some ailments but he was pretty much part of the family. I wish I had talked to him more because I'm guessing he had some interesting tales. How does a guy like that end up in a place like that? It was just so bizarre being an average dude sitting at that table. Also got to go for a donkey ride up the hillside to overlook the water.

>Barton's Creek

You had to drive 3 miles over some of the worst (dirt) road I have ever seen in my life. What should have been a short trip took about 3 hours because you had to carefully navigate this road. To alleviate this trip there were orange orchards and you got to drive through part of the Amish valley communities. These places are like something from an illustration. The people, land and sky there are untouched. Vibrant green rolling cattle pasture. While I'm thinking of it, Belize always has these low, large defined puffy clouds. The kind that remind you of depictions of heaven.

Barton's Creek itself is obviously a very isolated area, where a large wood building overlooks a pool that a waterfall pours into, and the creek continues on either side. The owner had a really shy, really qt daughter. You sleep in cabins or snooze in hammocks and drift off to the sound of the waterfall. I also visited the neighbouring Amish community. It was hidden behind a large range of hills (I don't think they were large enough to qualify as mountains). Felt like I stepped through a portal to an earlier time once I got on the other side. Rolling hills and hills as far as the eye could see. Lots of horse carriages around. The crazy thing is that I'm from Canada, Ontario, and these guys knew the Amish families from around my way. Apparently the Amish hold correpsondence regularly amongst each other on a trans-continental scale.

>Orange Walk

Just a small town. Colorful, square concrete buildings. Despite it's size it was a neat little bustling town with electrical cables running all over. Only stayed here overnight in a hotel. It's hard to explain this place. It was simply a perfectly sized, quaint little town with just the right amount of activity. When I got up in the morning I went to the town square where there's all kinds of merchants with their stalls and carts. Bought three soft shell tacos from an old lady who must have been like 4' tall for a buck fitty and sat on the curb to eat them. Had a very comfy /late/ aesthetic.

Probably the comfiest was just driving place to place. It was always relaxed. In the less travelled parts of Belize literally everyone waves at you with a smile. Bumped into some friendly dude who walked around with a machete on his belt because he could. Was clearing some land for some venture he was working on. I think he was going to make a Treasure Island themed tourist attraction.

It was when I was 19.

One afternoon, just on dusk, standing outside with a soft, warm breeze flowing. While I was watching the sky darken I held by breathe for a short moment closed my eyes then slowly exhaled. For a few seconds afterwards I felt almost weightless. For maybe a minute after this I felt genuinely happy. For the first and last time in the past 29 years.
