Well, Anons, I'm pretty fucking livid. Took a financial leap on some supposedly really good frames and lenses back in 2016, and they both broke down faster than anything I'd ever bought cheaply as a kid from Wal-Mart's optometry department. The soft rubbery coating on the nosepads and arms disintegrated first, which were replaced, and then the second set did the same thing. And now the very expensive ballistic-rated lenses have their coating failing, which will eventually spiderweb out from the annoying blur they currently are into a facade that will ruin the lenses completely. And the company I bought from have taken the 'your problem now' stance, in spite of having babied these things.

I'm allergic to metal and so have to have composite frames, but I don't know who the hell to trust with build quality or material composition. I live in Florida, so conditions are hot and humid even today, in late November, which may have contributed, but was unavoidable. What eyewear would you take if you had to bring a single pair into Vietnam for a couple years? What brands are good? Which are shit? Does anyone know what plastics are desirable and which are to be avoided? All of the above for lenses, too.

Image is what I bought, the RX-456. I actually really like how they look and fit, especially the wraparound; I can hang upside down and they won't budge. But I can't be buying new frames and lenses every couple of years.

Eyewear general, I guess. Nightvision/thermal/goggles discussions welcome, but try not to expand into mounted optics themselves.

How do you stop your glasses from fogging up when wearing a balaclava? I have to pull it below my nose which is less than ideal.

Wiley x or ESS crossbow might be your best bet. I beat the shit out of mine and the frames last awile and the nose pieces and lenses are replaceable with ability to attach perscription inserts.

Wiley lens inserts sit too close to the face to be highly usable. I had to shoot with those on at training last summer, and they would always become dirty and sweaty from contact with my face and eyelashes after a short time.

These kinds of glasses may be big but they're basically indestructible.

Daily reminder to wear eyepro whenever you go operating.

Either breathe through your mouth or do it as ivan does: cut a hole.

I see many people using balaclavas like a face warmer in winter time, but it isn't meant to be one. It's a cloth you wrap around your face to protect your skin against wind and ice, not a skintight layer that is meant to keep your breath in and make you feel slightly warmer for a minute before it freezes over due to moisture.

Then why not wear a ski mask? You know, for skiing.

There are metal allergies. Every now and then you hear about someone who can't wear certain kinds of jewelry, for example. My mother had a mild allergy to one of the common metals for jewelry (don't remember exactly which) that basically meant she could not wear most earrings without her earlobes swelling and itching, e.g.

I know a guy who can't touch zinc'd stuff. Its hilarious watching someones hand swell up after touching some zinc plated steel cases.

Just buy inexpensive glasses from Zenni Optical, et al, and never worry about breaking glasses again.

National guard? You should be able to get the ess crossbows at a px for under 70 for a full set and order the inserts through a normal on post optometrist. I've used the crossbows since I've been in and they are comfortable to me even with cvc in convoy dust.

I tried ESS crossbows and either they're made for midgets or I'm a giant, because it was narrow as fuck.

Smith Optics Aegis was a perfect fit though.

Get a high quality three hole balaclava/ski mask, make it a two hole balaclava/ski mask by disconnecting the nose bridge from the forehead part.

Now you can wear glasses, they don't fog up and if your balaclava/ski mask is good quality the nose bridge should should still warm your nose, while not getting in the way of your glasses.

I usually just get my safety glasses from Home Depot. They have OSHA approved, impact rated safety glasses for around ten bucks. 15 or 20 if you get sunglasses style (darkened lens, colored mirror reflection on the outside, etc.)
